The Feds used to real good at strong arming states to get them to do things they didn't want to (55 mph speed limits, or raising the drinking age to 21 for example) by threatening to withhold highway funds.  Perhaps it's time to revisit that.  There has to be 'some' big transfer of money scheduled to go to FL in the next couple of weeks.  Maybe an "Oops, the paperwork must have gotten messed up. Sorry about that. We'll try again next quarter..." is in order.

Rinse, lather, repeat as necessary.

/Not medical/medicaid reimbursement, that would be too easy to weaponize against them

Yes, the state will get right on it a week or two after school starts. You know, about the same time local authorities are closing schools which have abandoned science and expert CDC advice on how to prevent infection among the unvaccinated (kids under 12).
Bit they can cut budgets and wages for schools during a pandemic amirite?

At some point we just need to accept that figuring out that tab A fits into slot B doesn't magically make you able to make good decisions for yourself or your child.

I see shiat like this and can't help but think we as a society and legally have just accepted that children are not persons they are property to be treated however their owner wishes.

Just offer to hold a human sacrifice at the flagpole out front of the elementary school. Bring out a masked second grader, lash her to a swamp boat, say some prayers to Trump, then have DeSantis pull out her heart at high noon and offer it to God to ensure no other child will get the virus, the tax cut harvest will be bountiful, and the national championship game will be Florida vs. Florida State.

If DeSantis refuses he's clearly a Fauci-fellating liberal who can't make the tough choices.

Forces the State's hand. If the school district says that the State's cut the district's money then someone's going to have to make up the difference.  They can sue the school district who could then, I would think, sue the State. I know that's a lot of things to jump through, and it could all be B.S. but it puts a bigger spotlight on the State.

The most likely outcome is the Feds will simply make up the difference for these districts to flip off DeSantis; if the ensuing nonsense about "student's rights" causes any heartburn they'll get a Federal Court to issue an injunction until the lawsuit can be heard.
