Trying to be first to force your way into a room where the police have to be feeling like they are re-enacting Custer's last stand just doesn't sound wise to me.

A general raise would be a good idea.  Proven actor and such.

So they investigated themselves and found no wrong doing?

I'm sure all those whitey republicans are going to boil over like little tea kettles, with no hint of irony in their words.

Makes me wonder how close those insurrectionists were to Pence's nuclear football at the time of the shooting. My guess is that they were much closer than anyone is willing to admit publicly.

I refuse to say her name. It doesn't need to be launded unto infamy like John Wilkes Booth. Personally, I'd love to see her wiped from history, known henceforth as, "nameless insurrectionist who died trying to prevent the peaceful exchange of power." But I also recognize that falls into the realm of wanting retribution, not justice.

Justice is what spawned this article; the officer acted within the requirements and limitations of their duty in shooting her. I'd expect no less would happen to me if I had tried to do the same thing in response to Trump's 2016 electoral win.

2021-08-20 4:43:07 PM
And that was the end of that subject. Nobody ever said anything more about it and the case was closed.

It was a good kill. Maybe if she had stayed home that day, she wouldn't be dead.

She prevented a full breach at that spot which may have saved the lives of the people she was defending.

The lesson here, kids is this: if you try and overthrow a government, that government will decide it has the right to defend itself through whatever means it decides are necessary.

2021-08-20 5:03:27 PM
Maybe she should have considered *not* attempting to overthrow the government to keep the loser of an election in power.

FTFA:

Babbitt's death has been promoted as an unjust killing by some on the far right who have sought to downplay the violence at the storming of the Capitol, and they have demanded that the identity of the shooter be publicly released. Rep. Paul Gosar, R-Ariz., has said Babbitt's death was "an execution," and he accused the officer who shot her of "lying in wait" to do so.

So we're finally admitting mainstream GOP politicians are "the far right"?

That's why the first troops to attack the wall were known as the "forlorn hope".  They were usually drunk, and promised additional pay and/or loot.

In this case, she did it for free, thus making this evolution in action.

Serious question, but what could they have done with that? My understanding is that it's codes that give the approval to launch the nukes, not a button or something that they could just press and cause havoc. They'd still need to know who to give those codes to, and that someone hopefully would be supporting the constitution over some rando who supports Trump calling them up and telling them to nuke Commifornia. So that would have been real bad, but probably not world ending bad. Still not something I really want to find out the hard way though.

Uh, losing any element of nuclear command and control is, by definition, a Bad Thing.

If it goes out of custody into a raving mob, you've got to regenerate your codes and quite possibly more than just that, since now who knows what information from it has been lost?
