A porn site whose main selling point is that it allows anybody in any community to launch their own porn page is having trouble attracting traditional investors? I'm shocked. I'm shockingly shocked. Next you're going to tell me that Chaturbate isn't actually going to be listed on the NYSE anytime soon. But I won't believe you.

Oh OnlyFans, just give a sidelong glance to the SPAC marketplace and they'll satisfy you.

I don't think the subject is the problem. The issue is the barrier to entry is very low and the market is prone to follow fads and trends. If I had millions to invest and interest in the artisan porn, I wouldn't put my money in OF, I set up as a competitor.

It's like when fb lost the youth market when their parents (and grandparents) signed up. That a bunch of gen Xers are casually talking about OF means it's likely on its way out.

I'm more surprised that the founders don't think they have enough revenues for organic growth, instead of having to share the profits with anyone else.

One of the current backers wants to cash out.  This isn't "cash for growth" this is "cash for spending" money.  Large, glorious piles of it.

They're making money off attention whores. Do they even need investors?

I'd think age 35-55 is right in Only Fans' target demographic. Old enough to be bored with free porn, and the disposable income to pay. Looking for the appearance of interaction with someone they wouldn't have a shot with in real life for whatever reason.  I see it a lot like a strip club - yeah, some 20-somethings might go now and again, maybe a few more often, but the real money is in the regulars looking for an escape, and I think that skews a little older.

Facebook is a completely different business model; nevertheless, it got its foot in the door by being the cool thing the kids were using, but didn't start churning money until the old folks were brought in.  In any event, I'd guess Radivinsky knows something if he wants to cash out after both gross and net revenues have more or less doubled each year for three years.

There's also the question of if it's long-term sustainable.

The explosive growth makes sense when people are stuck at home, getting lonely and craving social contact with attractive people.

Will they continue to have the same level of revenue once strip clubs and similar are open again?  And it's safe enough for people to risk Tinder or whatever else?

People invest in vices all the time, but there's usually some sort of an exit strategy.   I don't see this one going public or getting bought out by a larger company anytime soon, and if it's bot soon, then you risk the whole thing collapsing.

/should've taken out a loan when the stock market crashed in March 2020
//now need to sell off what I bought before Home Depot crashes

How about some of the ladies making millions on your website?

I'm a little surprised MindGeek hasn't swallowed them (pun intended).

While I'm sure OF has some safeguards in place, as an investor I would be terrified of Age Fraud.

I have a number of people who come to me looking to start the next billion dollar idea by making a copy of something else.  The coin tips they so think will be dollars in their view of the world are $0.05.   5 cents get a ching-ching money sound.  A billion dollars is 20 billion nickels.  That is a lot of RSI from clicking on a mouse button.  And people don't pay for pr0n.

I've never in my life paid a dime for porn and don't understand why people do. And I don't invest in things I don't understand.

(note that I never said I've never consumed or used porn)

Ain't a lot of free sites with young ladies doing indescribable things to a Luke Skywalker action figure, while wearing a gold bikini, and humming the Sailor Moon theme. I want to say it's the interaction part that separates it from other sources.

Course, if we just acted like every other sensible nation and just legalized prostitution, OF wouldn't be much of a thing.

So:

1. Backer of a site that's making them a nice chunk of change is tired of making money.
2. Said backer can't find anyone else interested in making money to sell their share of it to.

I thought this was a capitalist country?

this^
The use of the word investor is misleading. The owner/founder is looking to sell. Onlyfans is looking for a new owner or mgmt company for it  to become a part.

TFA author states it plainly but doesn't seem to understand the words he uses.
