Until one of them burns up on re-entry.

Physics is a cruel mistress. Or whore, depending on whether or not you are a billionaire.

Eh. My early game in Kerbal Space Program has probably 80% of my income coming in from space tourism. Realistically I'm probably ferrying Elon Kerman and Jeff Kerman all over the moon for their stupid egos, but who cares? The money goes into rocket research and space travel advances.

Eventually we'll be advanced enough to mine asteroids and never worry about material shortages again. Is it so bad that we flattered some billionaires to get there?

No they pay extra for the non-burny kind of reentry

Well, the alternative is sending PhDs and fighter pilots into space to run on treadmills all day and push buttons on the experiment packages, and that has been kind of boring so far.

The first person to get into space as a stowaway will be the space tourist that everyone remembers.

Early aircraft was mostly financed by the military and rich guys too.  Howard Hughes and Charles Lindbergh were not exactly poor.

Technology is one of those things that eventually does trickle down.

So one thing to note:  Elon Musk became a billionaire after he started winning real world KSP.  Before that he was 'just' a decamillionaire, with basically all of that sunk into a boutique electric car company and an aerospace company that had failed every launch.

Why can't we just make it illegal for private companies to make space rockets? It's so infuriating.

Just like flying, either balloons or planes, let the early adopters alpha test it.

Yeah working in an asteroid mining labor camp to produce materials to make rich people even richer is going to be an awesome future.

Maybe we can have Space Force work as toll collectors for space ships landing on our planet? How's $50 billion sound? Earth needs to practice this kind of mindset for when the Martians come.

Yep
The trickle happens right before the turd hits

No

Just cut back on that free public money they get.

Like, if I had the kind of money that nude supermodels would cling on to me during all hours of the day, fark going to space.

I'd be going to the moon as often as I could.
