It's a Republican bill. It will pass but the Republicans will act like they regret it afterward even though they got their "asset recycling" in at the last minute.

Democrats have to make it look like it's a win for us. Look how long the ACA has been celebrated by the party even though Americans hate our health system.

At least the job creators get the infrastructure they want for profit and they still do not have to contribute at all.

EnderWiggnz: slowly i turn

If there was an afterlife, there'd be a forgotten vaudeville comic amazed that piece became a classic and remains known perhaps 150 years after it was written.

Presumably they would also have been surprised when it became a an Abbot & Costello bit, a Three Stooges bit, and an I Love Lucy bit.  I'm pretty sure everyone who has performed comedy in the West since 1900 knows it.

I also find it amusing that the conceit of the bit is the 'trigger phrase' lives on in a kind of 'meta' fashion, in that when you say 'slowly I turn', anybody familiar with the bit is compelled to recite the next line from their favorite incarnation of it.

Mitch can hardly contain his glee that the Democrats not only chased this bait for months, but then happily bit down on it.

2021-08-07 9:48:21 AM
We are so close! And yet, there is the nagging fear that Democrats will maliciously sabotage the deal by not agreeing to a perfectly reasonable capital gains tax cut or blanket amnesty for the 1/6 tourists, causing GOP Senators to become concerned.

5 trillion down to 1 trillion to appease the minority, and it'll fail anyway.

Pivot to reconciliation bill.

"Vote Blue No Matter Who" byproducts Manchin and Sinema block the bill. Dems shrug with an "aw shucks, nothing you can do" smile, go party on Republican yachts, and let this country rot further.

Clear as day.

Absofarkinglutely amazing how many trillions can be torched for adventures in the middle east, and how hard it is to get a fraction of that for necessary basic maintenance at home, nevermind investment where it makes sense.

It isn't even $1 trillion. The media saying it are showing they are propagandists for the administration.
It is $550 billion. Any other money used will be stolen from the only good thing Biden did so far. The Pandemic stimulus package.

But I heard some able-bodied person got unemployment checks once, so nobody should get anything.

Also, maybe that was a wedding we bombed but there was a guy there whose name was on the terrorist watch list, so everyone present got what they deserved.

Most likely. If there is anything both Democrats and Vichy Cons love, it's spending massive amounts of money on projects they can claim credit for, even if the results are hard to decern.

Well, results other than inflation.

Can you explain what you mean by them being "blue no matter who" byproducts? I mean, it's not like there were better candidates in either of their races.

Which is not me defending them--they can eat sh*t and die--I'm just not seeing what this has to do with voting blue.

Bridges, roads, and highway repair are at least $1 trillion and we haven't even touched our failing electrical grid.  I guess we can just kick the can down the road so more shait falls apart, the costs continue to rise, and water heads biatch about how expensive the bill is because we ignored it for decades.

I'm struggling to see why the GOP has any reason to pass this.  They have a lot of reason to get it close, then sink it to the bottom of a deep trench.  They've already beaten it down to under half its original size to demonstrate their strength, and now dragged the process out for several months to waste the time of the Dem majority.

The most valuable thing they can do now is deny the bill at the end under the excuse of "we can't afford it" and rob the WH of year one win that the last administration couldn't even get off the ground in four.

Bullshiat. Democratic leadership knows as well as you and I do that Manchin isn't motivated by a desire to improve things, and that appealing to his better nature is useless because he hasn't got anything of the sort. Using brinkmanship to pretend to try to convince someone who's already killed vital legislation is something that could only convince the most gullible of party loyalists.
