It is, but people wrongly keep calling it a vagina.  Neither mons nor vulva are vulgar, and are the proper terms.  c00nt is vulgar AF, but sometimes correct.

I think we should be calling those people Scrotums - thin skin holding delicate, sensitive things.

What's vulgar is if my pussy isn't attended to by 8 o'clock I shall be stroking it for the rest of the evening!

"My pussy is not vulgar! And we are unanimous in that!"

I've always said, don't use pussy as a pejorative.

Very few people listen to me but it's something I feel strongly about.

I guess I put it on a pedestal.

So sue me.

It's easy to understand if you just put it in song...

[MELISSA]
Vagina is where the penis goes
Ovaries make eggs for you and me
Testes are where the sperm repose
Cervix is where they can swim free

Fallopian tubes are where both of them meet
Uterus is where cells start to sprout
Placenta is what they like to eat
Till the baby pops straight out

(Spoken)
[NANCY]
The vagina?

I remember watching a documentary once about a man who ended up retaining his virginity much longer than would normally be expected in his culture and one of the recurring points it made was that you shouldn't do this.

We already have "dickhead" for that, and it's much more satisfying to say.  Just the same, the Scots already use "bawbag."

Coont is never appropriate however, because nobody who is ever called that is ever deep or warm enough to qualify.

I had brief hope that this article was going to be the "well, actually" origin of "pussy" as a perjorative I bring out a few times a year.

Calling someone a "pussy" implies they're cowardly and weak.
from:
pusillanimous
[ˌpyoosəˈlanəməs]
ADJECTIVE
showing a lack of courage or determination; timid.
which is derived from the latin "pusillus"=very small and "animus"=spirit

It's not anatomical in origin.  As Betty White has pointed out, those things can take a pounding.

If "literally" can mean both "literally" and "figuratively," then "vagina" can refer to both the female genitalia as a whole and the female genitalia as a hole.

Huh, although I knew the word "pusillanimous" - when not in school, I spent most of my time growing up in a house where books from the 1800s where considered frightfully modern, so I have a strange vocabulary... - but I never knew the connection between that word and "pussy as genitals"

Americans should watch British TV. Scatology and vulgar slang are as common on their TV as drug ads are over here. I pick on drug ads because they're more obscene than scatology and vulgar slang.

Frankie Boyle is either legendary or infamous for those kind of jokes. I'm told that off-stage he's as sweet as could be. The proof of that is that he hasn't been murdered by those he makes fun of.

He's a weird kind of Scottish nationalist who seems to see living in Scotland as some kind of punishment. I recommend to Farkers unfamiliar with him to look up his Youtube presence from clips of Mock the Week. Apparently his combination of Mort Sahl/Robin Williams wit was drying up the pool of comics willing to go on Mock the Week to be upstaged by him. So, he either left or was pushed.

Language doesn't bother me, and I'm often baffled by our censorship instinct - that leads some outlets to bleep things like "jackass" or imply that similar words are somehow "bad".  Meanwhile, there seems to be no problem with showing simulated gun violence, maiming, physical violence, greed, wastefulness....All much more offensive to me than somebody saying "f---".
