How do these kids even know what Clerks is?  That's a 30 year old movie with a well-earned R rating.

/J&SB reboot was surprisingly entertaining

Ask their parents.  It's a touchstone film for some Gen X and Millenials.

No, it was distributed by Miramax, not Touchstone.

That's really sweet.  Kev is a good guy to not get all bent about it.  And you KNOW there are celebs that would get bent about it.

They have parents who have seen it. Same way grade school me knew who Freddy Krueger was before I was old enough to see Nightmare on Elm Street.

Wait $.50 a cup? The kids across the street from me selling lemonade yesterday were selling it for $1.50 a cup. Those kids should have went for more money. At least a buck a cup.

I had very lacking oversight when it came to movies growing up. I dressed as Freddie for Halloween in fifth or sixth grade and had seen all the movies at that point.

I don't drink lemonade.

I imagine the local news has mentioned it, as shooting movies on location is a big deal for a lot of places.

The 80s and early 90s had a great record of outright marketing R-rated movies to children.  There were a number of action figures and Saturday morning cartoons for the likes of Robocop and Rambo.  Freddy was pretty well in the popular zeitgeist even if you had never actually seen one of the movies yourself back then.

That and the movie is filming in Kevin Smith's hometown. FFS, I wouldn't doubt if at least one of those kids' parents either grew up with him or knew his family and friends.

Same here as far as the oversight is concerned. By the time I was in 5th and 6th grade I'd already decided that Freddy Krueger was too cartoonish for me. Poltergeist was the horror movie for me at that age. Scared the hell out of me.

I'm not the biggest fan of his movies, and to be frank his fandom sometimes puts me off, too, but I'm a fan of him. He always seems like a solid dude, real down to Earth, his cult fandom never went to his head, he never bought his own hype, and on stage the guy can spin a yarn like no one's business. I've got nothing but respect for how he handles himself, even if I'm not inclined to watch his work.

Ha. Yep. My mom introduced me to poltergeist.

She also showed me the Omen at a wildly inappropriate age. And Whatever Happened to Baby Jane.

Completely agree! His new He-Man show (sans He-Man) really stunk it up and pissed off his fanbase. He's trying anything to get people to stop talking about his bait-and-switch of a show.

This is how I feel about him as well, except I do love his movies.  The early ones are filmed in places in NJ special to me, and quite near my home.  If I weren't from Jersey I may not be willing to watch the newer stuff.

Hahahahaha!! C'mon, a loud subset of goons engaging in the usual review-bombing does not represent anything but a loud subset of goons engaging in the usual review-bombing. I put zero stock in those goofballs. Among those who didn't immediately stomp their feet and pout, it's been pretty widely praised.

I, a casual He-Man fan, was disappointed and confused; then when Kevin said "how metal am I for killing He-Man twice?" really soured me. Also his hatred for Orko. But I am only a casual fan so maybe I missed all the subtleties that people thought was great.
