They've been out of ideas for 30 years.

"The Boys" started out pretty good and then screwed the pooch.
I loved "The Deep/Aquaman" character. It was the high point.

LOL...well, no.   But I'll look for that the next time I watch it.   And be sure to point it out to my husband.  :)

I didn't know what to expect when I first watched it, and the Exxon Valdez cracked me up.   I also don't have the urge to hate on Kevin Costner just because he's Kevin Costner as so many do...just because.

Hey, I think it is a good premise.  And, god dammit, I liked The Postman and they should make *that* into a series!

Will Dennis Hopper be making a cameo?

They filmed it in my hometown, it was a bad movie it it was fun to see people we knew as extras.

/ it was also fun when the only place not covered by water due to rising sea levels was Waipio valley.

//it could be fun, just watch the budget. And hire competent writers.

The Postman.   Again, underrated movie (and yes, it's different than the book).

If I remember correctly, there was more than just the rear end.
And, yes, whilst the whole movie was quite the lark, that scene did leave an impression once upon a time.

Earlier this year, I watched the "Ulysses Cut" that was recently released on Blu-Ray.  It's really not that bad of a movie.  The only reason it's considered a disaster is because of how much farking money they put into the production.

So did I. It ranks up there with The Day After Tomorrow on movies so ridiculous that I will watch them any time they are on TV.

I basically want to live like Kevin Costner's Waterworld character, so I'd probably give the first season a shot.

Which was stupid, because even if all the ice melted, there would still be land.  Just a whole lot less of it.

Me and my brother went to see it on his break from Georgetown U. Only people in the theatre. When the General states "I was at the Battle of Georgetown; I watched the White House burn to the ground!" My brother yells out "GEORGETOWN!!! F*** YEAH!!! WHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!" Then does a lap around the empty theatre.

Manager walks in like 5 mins later asking "WTF is going on in here." My brother without even turning to him says "I dunno, must have been some other asshole in here."

Stargate, Buffy, Westworld...  There are plenty of examples of a TV series that ended up being waaaaay better than the movie it was based on.  Granted, there are plenty of counterexamples too, cases of "X: The Series" that ended up sucking out loud, but I'm willing to withhold judgment for now.

I liked the Westworld movie. It was Terminator before Terminator. The TV show had some great stuff going for it, but it thought it was just too clever by half and just wasn't fun.

That's fair, and none of those movies were bad, as such.  A well-done series has a lot more time for plot and character development than a movie does, so there's plenty of room for a series to build on the movie's groundwork.  I respectfully disagree on your dislike of the Westworld series, but it's admittedly a perspective thing.

The Postman had a pretty solid mythology behind it.  I bet a series set in the same world would be interesting.

There is actually going to be a new CSI and a new NCIS series coming out this coming season. There was also supposed to be another Law and Order series but NBC pulled the plug on that one. And I kind of thing that a Waterworld show sounds way more interesting than any of those.

Hollywood ran out of ideas a long time ago because most of the most brilliant and creative people have left the constrictive over the corporate confines of Hollywood, where idiot executive producers keep inserting themselves into movies, and joined the video game industry.

Modern video games are amazing and a lot of them have crazy compelling stories, that last a lot longer than a 2-hour movie. Those people have to come up with a lot of story-based content that flows within a grander narrative scheme oh, and they often do an excellent job of it. Fallout 4 comes to mind, what an amazing game.

Hollywood stopped caring about making art long time ago. Video games from the other hand, they really need to tell a compelling story alongside great mechanics if they want people to engage, and by their product

If they emulate the live theme park show, rather than the movie, they will be fine.

How would a Waterworld series work? I know it's make-believe so they can bend reality as much as they like, but the reality of such a world would be like making a series about the world if 99.9% of the population was gone; basically a few characters alone with each other for really long stretches of time. You wouldn't be running into new people every week to have a new adventure or situation. Things would be desperate enough that there wouldn't be resources for extended conflicts.
