Florida's Republican government won't even release the numbers anymore:

Not a hospital issue but a Covid-19 breakthrough anecdote: a couple I know in Florida, both fully vaccinated (pfizer) and both in their 70s came down with the Delta variant last week. They've were fully masked from March 2020 thru May 2021, but then they added one deviation: they started going to restaurants once per week (and keeping masks on in other public indoor spaces).

They've got mild symptoms and aren't hospitalized. (Mild enough that they didn't tell me until this week). The husband has diabetes as an underlying condition.

It really doesn't help to give anecdotes of mild breakthrough cases. The unvaccinated use it as a reason to not bother with getting their shots, and it can panic vaccinated people who are still at a vanishingly low risk of serious illness.

Louisiana's Governor ordered mask wearing for everyone in public spaces starting tomorrow.  Grumbling ensues.

At least 2 hospitals in Louisiana yesterday said they are full, cannot take in any patients.

Just found out a couple of hours ago a fellow I did some work with, and saw/talked to about 4 weeks ago, died of Covid.

Yea, this aint even close to being over.  Stay safe.

So the vaccine worked and kept them from getting a serious disease.

Nice.

Also, if your unvaccinated by choice this is a complete lie, don't get vaccinated.

When does it reach the level of depraved indifference? These people are lunatics.

Meanwhile during WW2 there were lots of instances where personal freedoms were pared back and violated for the war effort. If that happened now, imagine the exploding heads from people who have to ration resources and food, or be conscripted to fight and die.

This is why we've relaxed and got out way more this summer than we have in over a year. We have not changed our consistent rule: Masks on inside ANY store or building.

We're going to continue doing that for the foreseeable future.

Inside a restaurant isn't a magical realm where the rules of an airborne infectious disease no longer exist.

Get takeout!

I wish I'd had the foresight to label it as an anecdote, then. The many unvaccinated people who use Fark as their preferred medical journal might have gotten the wrong impression.

Strange, but as a vaccinated person, I felt relieved when I heard this news. It's out there, vaccinated people can get it, and it's consistent with what the CDC has been saying: not likely to be serious. Good, no?

Just got more info and ...    This fellow refused to wear a mask and was not vaccinated.  Diagnosed with Covid on a saturday and dead the next saturday.  I feel bad for his wife, kids, grandkids.  He should have been around another 20 or 30 years.  At least he stuck to his republican principles.

This really is the strangest timeline.

Democrat Governor, but all other statewide offices and the legislature are from the lying, obstructionist party.

My brother-in-law works for one of those Florida hospitals and claims this is all a hoax.  I'm wondering when he'll get it.
