Dude in one of the synchro events pretty much belly flopped. It was counted as "no dive", which I assume is the same as a 0. I'd guess there's at least a couple more over all the events that have managed a 0 at some point.

But like subby it's still better than anything I could ever do. Not sure I ever did more than the "tip into the pool off the side" move.

Fail tag should not qualify.

This is an athlete who is better than 99% of others in this event in the world.

Everyone is allowed a booboo occasionally.

You could see the look on her face - "yeah, this isn't happening."

Some of the divers scored big points.

It was worse for Ware.

Trying to find video of this is in the same level as finding voter fraud in the US: there's just layer after layer of fake shiat everywhere.

She should've turned it into a cannonball.

If you're gonna fail, fail big.

Welcome to the Olympics. The ioc works very very hard to make sure you can't easily watch things

I saw it live, but thanks for hooking up the search-challenged commenters above.

She just took a wrong step and got crossed up enough that attempting the dive might have gotten her hurt. Bad time for a bad mistake, but what are you gonna do.

This is another Simone Biles event - an athlete stopped themselves from getting hurt, like every diver is taught. She was going for the most complicated dive of the event so far (3.5 diifficulty) and lost her bearings in the air and hit the end of the board incorrectly. At the angle she came off the board on the bounce, she knew she would hit the board attempting any rotation.   In addition, no matter what she did, she could not complete her scheduled dive so her score would have been multiplied by 0. She made the right decision to save her health.

Sometimes the white knighting on this site gets out of control.

It's called a "failed dive" by the English speaking diving community.  It was described as a "failed dive" by the live commentators.  It's generally been described as a "failed dive" by the media afterwards.  So using the Fail tag seems pretty damn reasonable.

People are allowed to make basic observations of the performance of athletes in their sporting events.

She should have tried to make up for it on her next dive by attempting the Triple Lindy.

If you don't do the dive you said you were going to do, you get 0. (So no recovering a flubbed difficult one into something easier)

If you don't stick the 'landing' you get 0. (Anything other than hands above the head basically)

You lose more points for making too much splash than you do for not quite nailing good form.

It's a harsher scoring system than even gymnastics.

I've been advocating for cannonball as an Olympic event for many years.  I'd much rather watch that than skateboarding, synchronized swimming, that gymnastic event that involves twirling a stick with a ribbon on it, or half a dozen other events.

I was hoping for the Triple Lindy.
