She was a mechanic in Ww2, sometimes she reverts. I suspect she gets the occasional kick from being mistaken as common, but on her terms.

There's a story about her driving and her car broke down. She had to call AA to get a tow.

Maybe people would recognize her if she where more relevant? I care more about what the PM is up to than the queen.

Americans spend billions on tourism to see the absurd spectacle and people in silly hats. Its a major part of their economy.
British do not come here to spend tourist dollars to watch our leaders, hats or no hats.
I think the Brits might actually be on to something.

It was not a publicity stunt. She did not just don a uniform to boost morale. She actually underwent training as a mechanic. Granted, it was towards the end of the war, but that was only because she did not turn 18 until towards the end of the war.

I think it would be pretty funny if she started pranking people left and right.

The group, reports the Mirror, even went on to ask her if she had ever met the Queen - to which she replied: "No, but this policeman has."
She then gestured towards the former officer, who worked with the monarch for over 30 years.

That is delightful.

No joke my train got robbed on my way to Amsterdam from Germany, I was told to lock my door and hide my money and passport. I was an American traveling alone in Amsterdam and came really close to the Queen there, no idea who she was or what the gathering was for.  I just got off a train a few hours before from Germany at 7am and was hungover and dead tired and stumbled across this giant gathering, I kept asking people if they spoke English till I found someone who did and they said it was the Queen.

Amsterdam was great. I don't use drugs (I have smoked pot, but was not going to do it by myself in Amsterdam) I visited all the Museums (Van Gogh, Rijksmuseum), all of the city, Anne Frank House, the Heineken Brewery and all churches even though I am not religious the architecture is amazing. I sat on the Amstel river drinking an Amstel beer, it was great.  I learned they dump their shiat into the river which is gross, signs everywhere waste hazard do not swim.

Amstel on the Amstel sounds like a good afternoon indeed. Maybe I'll have an IJ on the IJ later.

and shiat in the canal, it's clearly been a long while since you visited, we have a king now, and ecology has found it's way to Amsterdam too. I swim in the IJ regularly. Very very few houseboats still use the water as the sewer. Fish still do though..

Unless it was something she did for kicks, I would doubt that for several reasons:
1) I doubt she will be driving/riding an unreliable car or anything that isn't maintained to the highest standards
2) even if she was in her car, and it did somehow break down, she must have had a protective detail tailing her. At least one car. She would easily get into that car, and someone from the car would stay by her car.
3) having previously known people on the peripheral of royalty, it is not uncommon for them to have exact replicas of cars that are interchanged if/when needed. A phone call would have gotten the replacement car to wherever needed.

Again, unless it was something she just wanted to do (or a publicity/awareness stunt).

She did do it all day. There was a war, you know. I don't know about grease up to the elbows; a good mechanic only gets his/her hands dirty. Apparently she continued to work on her own cars after the war, because she enjoyed it.

That said, I wish the US Head of State could come up with snappy and witty answers when the opportunity arises.

Those Americans tourists wouldn't even have been there if there was no monarchy.   After our two neighbors, Canada and Mexico, the #1 tourist destination for Americans is the UK, and it ain't because of the great food and spectacular weather.  We're all hoping to get as close to something most Americans have no experience with: royalty.  And the hats too.

Grenada. If we hadn't subdued those subjects of the crown with our brave preemptive action in 1983, we'd all be speaking English now.
