I am on the fence as to whether hard seltzer is a girly drink, or for hardcore alcoholics. Yes, Venn diagrams and such.

What I do know is that it's a hell of a way to cut cost and sell the same amount of alcohol.
Hop? Grains? fark, that shiat costs money.

One of the best scams ever.

So goes Henry Weinhardt's...

I hope they at least jettison off the brand and let someone else make it, more for regional nostalgia than anything.

Hardcore alcoholic here. It was straight vodka in the last few years before I sobered up. Most bang for your buck.

An alcoholic isn't going to get any sort of buzz from hard seltzer, beer, or anything like that.

Vodka.  Or whiskey for taste.

Late 20's for me - was introduced to it during an extended stay in Portland (OR) and found it to be quite drinkable.  Did it have the name Henry Weinhardt's Ale back then?

A number of midwest beers are going away as well based on that list.  Sigh.

The Beast and Keystone Ice? What will poor fratboys get pants-pissing drunk on now?

Havent had a henrys in decades, but i drank a lot of it in the eighties. These days its rumncokes or straight rum in winter, summer Ill pick up a 12 of miller high life, get tired of that, same thing with coors. Natty strawberry lemonade too. All good on a hot summer afternoon.  Havent seen it in a while but lucky lager with the puzzle caps was a staple in college...

It always seems that I read a story about beer consumption numbers dropping in the USA when I have recently quit drinking.

Coincidence or conspiracy?

/ Why not both!

I don't think I've ever had any of the beers they are killing, except maybe Henry Weinhardt's and that would have been a long time ago. In my college days, it was Genny.  That's Genesee Original Cream Ale.

One of the worst hangovers in my life.  Five 16oz Genny Cream Ales on a Thursday in college.  Didn't really get that drunk, but the headache didn't go away until 3:00 the next afternoon.

Thank you for that - yeah, maybe it was Henry Weinhardt's Private Reserve back in 1986 when I was in Ore-E-Gun for training for a month.  Memory is a bit fuzzy from those days...

I find the relevant as I just finished a Truly Watermelon & Kiwi hard seltzer. My first ever seltzer.

It was not bad. Lighter, crisper, and more satisfying than a regular beer after a hot afternoon.

Not sure where I end on the Venn diagram as I'm neither an alcoholic or a girl, though.

For us it was keystone, natty, and beast. Rolling Rock if you wanted to splurge on a $4 cup. Or honey brown if you knew people.

Christ, I remember the $2 cup days.

It was a total fridge moment for me when I realised he's called that not just because he's large and plays a scary character, but also because his surname is la bête.

/He's in the new incarnation of the US Chase, isn't he?

Weinhard's goes back to the 1800s. That was my go to brand. It was really good, but probably was still independent then.

He was the sole chaser in the first iteration of the US version, now there is an ensemble cast including Labbett. TIL he's on the Australian version as well.

When I was in college, it was Schaffer...less than $2 a 6-pack.

Schaffer is also the noise your butthole makes the next day purging all the Schaffer you drank.
