The farking CDC waffling on the mask mandate didn't help. I'd give Trump 75% of the blame and the other 25% to the CDC, just for their sheer ineptitude throughout the pandemic. We know masks are an effective method of inhibiting transmission, they never should have relaxed the mandate. Keep it going until Covid is effectively eradicated in the US.

It's not like you're asking people to do something risky. It's literally the easiest thing you can possibly do to limit the spread. It causes less health problems that loneliness, which is probably the most effective solution to stop the spread: everyone stops interacting with everyone else. I just cannot believe they didn't err on the side of caution for another year.

Make no mistake, once school starts up and the idiot states that don't allow for mask mandates start getting larger and larger outbreaks, it's entirely possible we will have to go into another lockdown by winter. Does anyone farking want that?

I prefer "Tornado of Bullshiat."

And sadly, and amazingly, he influenced Trumpistas all over the world. There were Trump stans in farflung nations leading to worse outcomes everywhere.

Because millions of people actually take the drooling sociopath manbaby seriously.

It's horrifying, but true.

Trump didn't do it. Americans did it. Trump is just one of them. They chose this. This is who they are. They, who choose Delta viral waves, are who we invite to international governance and thing like free trade agreements. We cannot afford to blame Trump, when Turmp is not the person refuing to get vaccinated. We can only protet ourselves by isolating from American until they change. Also Alberta, but Alberta is not a shared problem with the UN or wherever.

Yup. Instead of agreeing with the Democrats, keeping COVID an apolitical issue, and coasting to re-election, Trump had to Trump, double down on the bullshiat and racism, and make the problem worse.

The worst part? The next Republican President is gonna be worse.

Don't tell that to my dad.  He saw on some right-wing program where some immigrants were eating in a fast food restaurant and were all coughing and tested positive for Covid, thus spreading it and causing the surge.

I agree they shouldn't have changed mask guidance, and "unmask if vaccinated" has equalled "don't mask."

But their recommendation came before Delta was widespread or understood.

Have the CDC and the Biden administration had things they could have explained better? Sure.

None of their mistakes can equal even one percent of the damage Trump and the right wing noise machine have done.

Pushing to get a vaccine out to help his reelection chances? He wasn't participating in the Covid task force any more by the time July rolled around, so I don't really think he was saying much about Covid-19. July of last year was the tail-end of the BLM protests and widespread looting, so he was more concerned about saying racist shiat.

Dafatone: I agree they shouldn't have changed mask guidance, and "unmask if vaccinated" has equalled "don't mask."

I mean, India had been dealing with Delta since February 2020. If you're unsure about something, I don't get erring on the side of wild abandon vs. caution.

We have a saying at work "take advantage of the unplanned outage." If something fails unexpectedly we can usually get it up and running improperly in a short amount of time, or take a longer time to fix the problem correctly. The underlying philosophy is that people are already pissed off about the outage, so you may as well use the time wisely. Hell, we've even used outages to do maintenance so we don't have planned outages down the road.

The US was already tired of the mask mandate, but there was literally no good reason for the CDC to change their advice. It was announced on an arbitrary date using arbitrary logic that failed to factor in there was an explosively contagious variant on the loose in other countries.

Scorpitron is reduced to a thin red paste: If your dumb class of people vaccinated and masked, the variant wouldn't be a problem in the States.

My "class" of people did both. I'm part of the global, liberal elite. Citizen of the world, etc.

FWIW, the USA masked up before many other nations.

You don't remember the testing fiasco? That wasn't Trump. They could have accepted test kits from the WHO but they insisted on making their own test, then they farked up the process, so they created millions of tests that didn't work. They wasted three months. That was a pure CDC farkup.  So was this testing screwup.

His family purposefully refused to wear masks at a debate, probably in hopes of infecting Biden.  They threw a hiss-fit every time Covid precautions were insisted upon at the debates.  They set the tone that caring about passing Covid was only for Libs and if you wanted to be part of the cult, you had to not care as well.  We still are dealing with their vice-signalling asses for the remainder of the plague.

You're giving too much credit to Trumpers. No, sadly, Trump is in the news because he gets clicks. The media in the USA is addicted to ad revenue, and the more sensationalist, trolly bullshiat that they can run the more money they make. Entire newsdesks were dedicated to Trump; a whole cottage industry popped up just writing 3-line stories that copy and pasted Trump Tweets for Twits. Despite him being out of power now, these news organizations still need to make money. They'll squeeze every last penny that they can out of "outrage clicks," and I guarantee you that it's not Trumpers giving them the likes of CNN and the NYT the business.

Trump didn't even want them to test, because testing would show an increase in Covid and that would be against his pledge that Covid would go away by itself.

600,000 and counting American deaths are on this asshole. He's killed more Americans than all the foreign war combined. Just think about that. His followers are enemies of our country...which btw, they want to overthrow to install this monster as an autocratic dictator. Just think about that.

Yep. So who is furiously refreshing the Daily Beast and giving them mad amounts of ad revenue for writing stories about Trump?

We bring it upon ourselves.

That hardly excuses farking up 10 million tests. They're the CDC, it's an independent agency. They managed to eradicate smallpox worldwide, FFS. 50 years later, they've made stumble after stumble dealing with a worldwide pandemic, which is what they're supposed to excel at.

Look, I get it, some part of your brain thinks that criticizing the CDC gives Trump a pass for being a shiathead. It doesn't - they aren't mutually exclusive positions. Trump can be a shiathead AND the CDC can be incompetent. They are going to write books about what the CDC did over this past year and half and they aren't going to be  success stories.

Like it or not, Trump is the presumptive 2024 nominee for the Republicans.  Like it or not, Republicans still crave his benediction.  I'm seeing all the Republican nominees commercials for office here in Ohio, and they ALL mention how deeply they take Trump cock down their gulllets.  You all are crazy if you think we can ignore Trump because he's "not that important."  If he wasn't important, Republican candidates wouldn't be bragging about how much they worship Trump.  Truly, you need to get out of this echo chamber sometimes and see these Trumphumpers in person.
