A better explanation is Dolly invests her money in things that help the world in general, rather than on things for herself. Sometimes, she makes even more money (See Dollywood). Other times she doesn't. She's a good steward of her talents and gifts.

I was on the fence before, but, Dollyworld, it is! Sorry, Branson... maybe next time.

Catlenfell: It says that she bought the building, but not what she did with the building.

If nothing else, what she did with it is increase the property value and viability of the neighborhood for the future, like Clinton building his center in Harlem and Obama building his museum on Chicago's south side.

Unless you are a member of AARP, there is no reason to go to Branson. What a depressing destination. It's where showbiz dreams go to die.

Usually, when people buy office complexes (or strip malls, TFA calls it both things) they rent out subsections of the complexes (or malls) to businesses that need offices (or places to sell stuff).  Or it could be that she's moving some of the offices in her media empire to this office complex.  Facts?  Information?  Modern media cares not for those things!  They just want clicks and engagement and some of that advertising money.

The problem seems to be this article was poorly summarizing part of an interview she did.

Here's more on her office complex:

No, that's playing the Hulman Center in Terre Haute.  Branson is where showbiz dreams go after they've died and had animatronics stuffed into them.

Type "Dolly Parton boo" into google and guess what isn't on the selections.
I couldn't believe it myself.  My admiration for Dolly grew three sizes that day.

Still would, as well.  But I'm a also a sucker for bunny ears.

Terre Haute is where lots of things go to die.  At least, that's what the smell implies.

Dolly Parton and Jimmy Carter are doing their best to restore our faith in the south. We know that there are a lot of good people down there. We just wish they weren't outnumbered.

A story about Dolly doing the right thing?  It's a day ending in Y.

My one and ONLY quibble with Dolly is her lack of action/never speaking against MAGAnation.  I suppose she's still gotta fill Dollywood with guests, but I can wish, right?

Have you forgotten about her "civil war-themed dinner theater" called "The Dixie Stampede."?

IIRC, though, Obama built it in Hyde Park, which was and is pretty well off to begin with (used to live there, and it's hands down one of the best neighborhoods in Chicago). It's not like he put it in Englewood or Roseland. But then again, Hyde Park's where pretty much everything really began for him, so it makes sense to put it there.

Politics isn't part of the Dolly(tm) brand. She's said so herself many times.

Not anymore...

"There's such a thing as innocent ignorance, and so many of us are guilty of that," she observes. "When they said 'Dixie' was an offensive word, I thought, 'Well, I don't want to offend anybody. This is a business. We'll just call it the Stampede.'"

"As soon as you realize that [something] is a problem, you should fix it," Parton adds. "Don't be a dumbass. That's where my heart is. I would never dream of hurting anybody on purpose."

I remember the one time I went to see a friend who attended UIC. Around 98.

3 lilly white gay bois in their early 20s driving in from the NW suburbs. It was an experience for sure. Making sure we made zero wrong turns and such to get to Hyde Park.

Understood.  But we're at a rare point in history where silence becomes a form of complicity, however unintentionally.

It disappoints me, but I'm not turning on her.  She's got a big empire, with lots of mouths to keep feeding, that would go "poof" relatively quickly if Right-wing America turned on her.

Again, I admire her, but at a certain point that turns into an excuse.  There's no subjectivity to storming Capitols,, ANTI-mask-mandates, and very little subjectivity to anti-voting laws, attacks on education under the excuse of non-existent "CRT" curriculum, etc.  At this point, if Dolly is silent it's because not being so might collapse that business empire she built in the Smoky Mountains.  I'm not even calling it greed or selfishness. That area would collapse back into poverty if Dolly said a word wrong and MAGAts did what they do and boycotted.

I truly believe she skews towards some Conservative views, but not anything resembling MAGA.  Heck, we know she believes in vaccines, don't we?  It's an area where she showed her hand.  In fact, if you think about it, Tennessee has become a huge anti-masking state.   Which puts her in a real pickle. She needed Dollywood not locked down, but now she's got to navigate the complex decision tree on mask policy there and who you offend and who you don't each way.  Currently Dollywood uses that "no masks if you're under 12 or already vaccinated" approach, where I'm assuming nobody ever asks for proof. I imagine that has avoided going totally to shiate mainly because MAGAts offended by a theoretical albeit uninforceable mandate are focused elsewhere.

I vastly preferred the southern BBQ called Sherman's in Atlanta
