I thought NY didn't like Chicago style.  Hypocrites.

Yeah in case you haven't noticed the Yankees don't try to buy every player and go all out since King George died. Now they are happy to do everything possible to stay under the luxury tax and rake in money from their shopping mall ballpark and the cable channel they own

White Sox just took Kimbrel.. are the Cubs in fire sale mode?

Because buying every player worked so well for them in the 00s! The Yankees were their best when Steinbrenner was the least involved

The "buy everything that moved" tactic resulted in exactly one title: 2009. As pointed out, the dynasty of the late 90s was the result of a farm system left unmolested by George.

Baez to the Mets.  Kimbrel to the White Sox.  Bryant to the Giants I guess?

I wonder what Cubs like Hoerner and Contreras make of all this.  Madrigal is good addition but the next couple of years look to be just brutal.

That'll solve their pitching problems.

\granted, they didn't try to fix inconsistency problems by picking up someone on the IL but still

I like that the tigers are staying quiet right now. Though I wish they would trade buck farmer to the moon. But they need to keep these young guys and not act like the AL centrals farm system, like they usually do.

Madrigal will be a nice player for them...if he can stay healthy.  If he didn't get hurt again (3rd time in 4 seasons), then the Sox don't trade him.

Yes.

All these guys were leaving at the end of the year, the Cubs are in 4th place and ridden with injuries. The first hit was trading Darvish over the offseason, but the moment they moved Rizzo it became clear it was going to be sell the FAs and rebuild.

Javy Baez and Trevor Williams to the Mets. Rizzo to the Yankees.  Kimbrel to the White Sox. The Kimbrel trade is a coup for Jed Hoyer, he got 2B Nick Madrigal and RHP Codi Heuer, both are young high-ceiling players. No word on Bryant. So far, the return reported for Baez/Williams is one prospect, I don't see that being it. Update: reported to be Pete Crow-Armstrong, a pretty high ceiling prospect, but one guy for two? Don't see that being all but hey, what do I know.

I do see Baez signing with the Mets, he's all for playing with Lindor.

Only 31 minutes left until the trade deadline.

Lots of sadness in the Cubs fanbase, all these guys were popular players, but I knew that this day would come. It's just the way baseball works. No way you're going to sign all these guys, the only question is do they make a deal with one to have a friendly face on the team. When they dealt Rizzo, I knew that wasn't going to happen. The only way Bryant stays is if nobody is willing to pay, which is possible. I thought the Giants would make a big push for him but they appear to be all in on Trevor Story.

And word is out that Bryant is going to SF.

They did part ways with Daniel Norris but that's it.  I agree, keep the young players and maybe loosen the purse strings a bit this winter.  Greene and Torkelson likely come up next year.  Things are getting better finally.

Yeah I didn't see the Norris news till a few minutes ago, but that doesn't hurt them much. Although it makes me hate farmer even more because he's still. Goddamn. There.

I could be wrong but it seems like Hinch has reserved about one game a week where he trots out all the worst relievers.  Some combination of Farmer, Jimenez and Holland.  The weekly sacrificial game that allows him to rest everyone else.

I'm a little speechless that Rizzo, Baez, and Bryant are ALL gone. I knew they weren't going to keep all three and probably not even two, but...

in any case, I'm glad TPTB are admitting this season is a loss and getting something in return, instead of being left with nothing when all three guys hit free agency at the end of the season. this was the last year the Cubs had any real potential of being competitive for a while and that ain't working out, so best to just blow it up now.

Not that the Yankees are rebuilding, but it's the same mindset that brings about takes like "The Yankees are cheap"

This why it's tough to be an MLB fan.

If you root for the Dodgers or Yankees you are creaming your jeans about these moves.

If you're a Cubbie or Nats (is this thing?) fan you are dying inside.

The rest of us will root for whoever we hate the least in the series.

The Nats are 2019 World Series Champs, only the Marlins blew that shiat up quicker. The Dodgers are kind of admitting they're gonna let Seager go, so winning the World Series MVP doesn't mean much, does it?

Yeah, what he's been doing is...odd, but sometimes somehow effective, but not those times. I've definitely noticed it as well. And it sucks that Jiminez is grouped in with those guys, cuz he can be SO good at times. Just... Not much this year.

Just a reminder that the previous time the Cubs won the World Series, the Qing Empire still (nominally) existed.

And I still get several emails a day from the Cubs saying "Come on out to Wrigley Field!"

If I want to watch a little league team I know where to go, and they don't charge for admission.

God I hate that farking stadium; if it weren't seconding as a shopping mail I wouldn't mind watching games there.

Will always love THTRB; any seat was a great seat.

No you're both right.  The dynasty of the 90s was built on George being suspended for the Spira/Winfield affair (note: look it up, was some pretty seedy shiat George did because he "made the mistake" of singing Winfield and he never performed in the way George wanted him to.  He should be thankful he wasn't banned for life.)
