I'm thinking about some of the towns that have been outside the Marine bases I've been on.

Havelock NC? Lol no.
Whatever the garbage town just outside 29 Stumps? Lol no.

Most military TOWNS (not large cities near military bases) are full of government contractors raking in that sweet sweet government pay, trailer parks, retired Gunnery Sergeants who will still yell at you for putting your hands in your pockets, titty bars, check cashing places, more titty bars, five or eight Walmarts, and a shocking amount of used car dealerships, some titty bars, women who swear they are eighteen working in the titty bars, titty bars, tattoo shops, and titty bars.

Military towns are often not great places.
I was single, as a marine, in a military town, for my entire time in NC because the very last thing I ever wanted to do was even have a chance at knocking someone up and being stuck in that town forever.

NAS Whidbey Island was pretty OK, bought a house there.

It's because Democrats hate the military!

A story told on local talk radio which comes from a trusted friend of the host: At the Inauguration there was a flyover of military jets. VP Kommie-la Harris was outraged by the display of aggression by baby-killers, and think of all the carbon emissions! But then Sleepy Joe, awakened by the majestic roar, leaned over and told her, "It's OK. Those are *our* planes now."

I totally would have believed the tale had I not heard Rush Limbaugh say the same about Bill Clinton 30 years ago. Get some fresh derp, fer petes sake

It isn't.  When I got complaints from soldiers about vaccinations, I told them, "I don't care, roll up your sleeve."  The best was the guys who were covered with tattoos who said, "Doc, I don't like needles."  Weeeell, this needle likes you, buddy.

wxboy: sickb0y: You already have to get a whole raft of jabs when you go in.  How is this different?

It's not, really.  But there could be a difference between vaccines with full approval and those with "emergency" authorization (which is the category the Covid shots are in for the moment) as far as requiring anyone to get it.  But the military might have greater leeway in that regard, especially since it's a national security/unit readiness question the same as any other vaccine requirement.

That difference might also play somewhat into whether employers in general can really require their employees to get the shot.

That difference is exactly why municipalities and companies aren't mandating the vaccine. Once it gets full approval that will change too.

It's not a shot *mandate* yet because of what happened with anthrax (short version: wasn't fully approved, some really bad side effects happened).  What's happening now is the same for federal workers: get the shot OR get tested with increasing frequency.  Until we get full FDA authorization that's all we can do.

Put rapid tests at every duty desk, take one every day at 0730 if you're unvaccinated.  Including weekends.  Make it farking HURT to endanger the people you fight beside.

Officers' wives are the Karens to rule all Karens

Glad the DoD is finally getting around to making the vaccine mandatory for service members, but they might be a bit late implementing it. Pity they can't force DoD civilians to get jabbed, too.

Until it's reached full, unconditional authorization (like all the other vaccines we get) we can't mandate it.  Until then the best we can do is make things suck more for unvaccinated.

It hasn't been ordered yet. The order is to obtain information on making in mandatory.

Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin will begin consulting military medical professionals, as well as the Joint Chiefs of Staff, to "determine how and when to make recommendations to President Joe Biden" about adding the COVID-19 vaccines to the full list of requirements for military personnel, the Pentagon announced Thursday evening.

The announcement came in the wake of Biden's call earlier in the day for the Pentagon to look into adding those vaccines to the list of required inoculations for service members. Biden also ordered that all federal workers not vaccinated against COVID-19 will be subject to masking, social distancing and mandatory testing.

E6+ wives were the worst.  Officer wives were actually pretty chill where I was stationed.

This was a crazy thing for my ex wife to comprehend. Here she is going to school, getting an education and learning a profession while the military wives around here are trying to see who can own the ugliest coach bag and the first question is always "what rank is your husband". I was an E6 but she always pretended she had no idea what my rank was.  Loved her for that.

True fact: if a Gunny is blowing the occasional load in you that does not make you also a Gunnery Sergeant.

You will not find verification yet because there is nothing to verify. This has not happened yet. The orders came down on Wednesday afternoon that (basically) all personnel at all DOD facilities will wear a mask regardless of vaccination status, but nothing yet on mandatory vaccinations.

It is expected to happen, but has not yet.

Legal issues with mandating something released under emergency approval, they've probably had lawyers on this for months. Also, just 2 days ago full masking orders returned because the vaccine rates and mask usage weren't even close to matching.

You mean like New York City?

Exactly. The "mandate" in NYC is that all city employees must either be vaxxed or have weekly negative covid tests. Giving people an out from getting vaccinated is not a vaccine mandate. Once the FDA approval changes from emergency to full use, that option will go away.

I think you missed the "massage spa" that doesn't have any English speaking employees.

Our nation's readiness to conduct war at a moment's notice is about the only thing the middle spectrum of politics agrees on.

On the far left you have a bake sale mentality for funding and on the right you have a "surrender to Russia" attitude.

Anyone and everyone who suckles at the Government teat needs to have a vaccine mandate, especially those who take an oath to defend.

Right? I wondered the same thing when folks would cry about the smallpox and anthrax vaccine.
They walk you in a line, asshole to bellybutton, and shoot you with a battery of them (hell the one above my asscheek felt like a god damn battery) the second or third day in boot camp.

Also you're in the military, fark your feelings.

The last person in line must be very short.

When I entered the Army way back in '86, one of the first things they did was jab me with their pressure-shot injections of god only knows what.  "Have you had Measles?"  SHOT.  "Have you had Polio?"  SHOT.  "Are you going overseas?"  SHOT.  "Is there the slightest chance that you have Rabies right now?" SHOT.  Wasn't even questioned, you did it or you didn't get in.

Now, mind you this was 35 years ago, and advanced tracker technology has become miniaturized.  No longer do they have to inject the horse-pill-sized antiquated Lojak chip in our necks.  It's nanite-sized, so it won't be as painful.  If anything, I'd call today's soldiers lucky, because my chip itches to this day.  It may be faulty, too.  I think it occasionally beeps at the end of the month.

I mean, there's exceptions, but yeah, the CO's spouses in my units have either been KarenPrime or the other extreme where they will contradict the CO in public to help another spouse.  The latter are awesome, but not common enough.  It's a Batman and Joker dynamic.

Officer kids can be just as bad, if not worse than their Karen mothers.

My dad was a USAF Chief, and I had a Major's kid consistently think he was better than me because his dad outranked mine.

And some of the kids were just as bad if not worse when dad went back to work for the USAF as a GS.

A fire marshal I used to work with went to dinner with his family in a local restaurant that he is required to inspect (one of the hazards of working in the town you live in for some of us).  The hostess told them that the wait was about 20 minutes and his daughter blurted out, "DO YOU KNOW WHO..." before he could clap his hand over her mouth, say "Sorry, we'll be going now.", and drag her out the door.

And then Biden will order those mentally controlled troops to destroy all bibles and take all the guns!

Corpsman: "Next!"
Sailor: "I was told I could have this done with a needle & I want you to make an appointment for me at Sick Bay. The soonest I can do this is ..."
Needle Gun: "Braap-click."
Sailor: "Ow! What the f...?"
Corpsman: "Next!"

Word to the wise: always thank Corpsmen no matter what they do to you. They really are trying to care for you to the best of their ability. Say thank you to the men & women who see you at your worst & most embarrassing & painful times. (I'm not a corpsman.)

NAS Whidbey Island was pretty OK, bought a house there.

Friend of mine on the local Navy base tells me the DoD has made masks and social distancing mandatory inside all buildings or facilities controlled by any US military component- regardless of vaccination status.

Glad the DoD is finally getting around to making the vaccine mandatory for service members, but they might be a bit late implementing it. Pity they can't force DoD civilians to get jabbed, too.

The idiots who believe in the microchip theory think that the control of people is the whole point. They completely don't understand how Facebook and Google make money off of them. They think the whole thing is a plot by "evil forces" because that is what they would do if they had control.

wxboy: sickb0y: You already have to get a whole raft of jabs when you go in.

Yes, corporate employers in general are waiting for the CDC to give its stamp of full approval, which will provide legal authorization for them to require vaccination as a condition of employment. And there's a bunch of them waiting, believe me. (Several corporate higher-ups in my extended family.) But the military aren't just employees of the federal government. They're explicitly under the orders of the Commander-in-Chief. If Biden ordered all troops to dye their hair pink, that's what they would have to do. And disobeying orders gets you court-martialed -- and that's under the UCMJ, which is much tighter than civil law.
