Dont need to reimburse big businesses because they never gave time off to their employees.

So the lesson to be learned here is not to get vaccinated right away. If you hold out, the government will try to bribe you with various schemes like lotteries and free PTO time. Why go for a jab now then? Who knows, next month they'll be giving you cash straight up!

Just make it mandatory FFS.

Sure, risk your health or life for $50 or a tote bag.
For you and I, the vaccine itself is the prize. The bribery doesn't bother me, and you won't see that much making it mandatory while it's still in the emergency use phase.  Christ, trials aren't over for all ages, and there's a mountain of data coming in every day, especially because of the variants that will continue to evolve.

It's hard, but will serve us we'll to keep a handle on our frustration. For a pandemic of this sort it's early in the game. Globally, I'm not feeling like this virus is going away in our lifetimes.

Reimbursing is cool, but if you aren't going to mandate that they give employees any time off, then it seems pretty moot for a lot of workers.

"bUT itS jUSt EXperImenTAL you can't force me to put something potentially dangerous into my body! Now stop telling me to put on my mask and hurry up taking  my order -- I need three triple cheeseburgers, a 128oz coke with some sugar packets on the side, an extra-extra-extra large serving of fries with extra salt and triple mayo. By the way, can you tell me where I can buy some smokes and a cheap 6-pack?  And hurry up with my food, I still need to pick up some cough drops for this weird persistent cough I've been having for the past couple of weeks. Come closer, does this look infected to you?"

/FWIW, most of the "lotteries" apply to everyone who has already gotten the vaccine since the very first jabs, not only those going forward. The health departments have been keeping track of who has gotten it, after all.
//The CDC getting rid of the "Experimental" moniker will take a lot of the excuses away, and make it easier for companies to mandate their employees getting vaccinated in order to work there.

this. Reimbursement is great, but if it's anything like PPP, it wasn't really as accessible to small businesses or the people who actually needed it as it was promised.

It was also ruthlessly exploited by big businesses

Are asshole business owners going to bother to go through the extra trouble instead of just telling their employees to get it done on their own time?

That douche bag restaurant owner that was on CNN recently would likely threaten to fire anyone that came to him for time off to get vaccinated.

This is EXACTLY the thought of my boss. He won't get the shot until he is either mandated for our work (1/2/2022) or a big enough lottery opens up. He also goes around unmasked at the local casinos and is rabidly anti-shot, but not against the vaccine itself. He's a weird dude but I really like him as a boss and I don't want to see him get sick and die, but he is adamant, even to his wife and family who are vaccinated.

One of my coworkers won't get it cuz he said a friend of his lost their memory for 6 days after getting the vaccine. I just sat there silent on the phone when he said that.

Good. A friend of my father got vaxxed on his own time because of course, still ended up in ER, nearly died then a week later his boss called him to come back to work and said COVID wasnt a big deal, his wife had it and it was fine. And even if the doctors said he had to stay home or else he would die, his boss refused to pay him sick days. And he had worked there like 20 years. People like that deserve their asses kicked if not outright get criminal charges... anyway when he got better he quit.

Oh I know she's lying about having a 6-day amnesia event, but HE believes her and that's the problem.  It is so hard to get through to some people.

But yeah it is now become a faux pas to ask someone if they're vaccinated. I've been checking around with guys in my office and anyone who doesn't volunteer the info, if you ask they get REALLY put off. Luckily, vaccines are required to RTW in January, so they are just happy losing their (cushy, well-paying corporate cog) jobs

You're preaching to the choir with that one. The high end hotels are pretty decent about that though, and it isn't like they've been slammed with constant banquets during the past year and a half. That can get hairy with 60-70 hour weeks.

Make it mandatory and give insurers the ability to cap claims if you had access to vaccine and didn't get it.

Let the responsible ones pay for their own medical care.

(And fear of medical bankruptcy might convince more people to get it.)

It takes two seconds to go get vaccinated.  I got mine at walmart.  Likewise with voting.  Its not TIME that is keeping anyone from either one of them.

And if your damn job is that onerous, looks  like you need to quit.  Not get another hand so you can continue to work until you die.

Not buying the snowflake excuses for either one of them.  If you can't handle your life because of work, then maybe you need to adjust your work life, not ask for more help so that you can work better.
That's not what you're supposed to be voting for.  And yet you always do--more daycare, more student loan forgiveness, cheaper college, more services to make your life easier, so you can work faster and harder.

But you don't have time to go vote, so I'm going to go vote against all those things.  Sorry, you should have organized your life better.  I'm not voting for a life of monied slavery.

There are business owners who are QAnon and antivax and do everything they can to prevent their employees from getting vaccinated. And because they're already assholes, they underpay their employees and don't offer sick days or PTO. These people won't be swayed by offers of reimbursement. If you're going to enable service industry employees to get vaccinated, you have to punish the employers who are sabotaging their efforts.

My very recent ex husband (we are both retired vets) won't get it because he was one of the very few servicemen who had a serious adverse reaction to the 1st round of the anthrax vaccine. Literally faceplanted in line when the needle came out of his arm, and was in the ICU with a high fever for a week. He carried paperwork exempting him from it for the last few years of his career. It was legitimately quite serious, and may have led to early onset arthritis. I'm no expert in the field, but I don't think COVID and anthrax are related. The real issue (and part of why he's my ex husband) is that he drank the orange koolaid, and politicized that which should be apolitical.

We both have gotten every inoculation under the sun, many times. They don't scare me. I'm a DoD civilian now, and back in the spring, drove to Ft Benning twice to get the Pfizer vaccine. I filled out a local travel voucher, and got reimbursed for mileage. I snuck a pic of young (baby) soldiers on duty engrossed in their phones. I'd share it, but it's not sanitized. No doubt they snapped to when their NCOIC came around,  but I was quite amused watching them behind my sunglasses while I stood in the long, but efficient, line. I also drove by several beautiful, scenic and decrepit old buildings in Bumfark, GA between my house and Benning, stopping for pics along the way. Not a bad way to spend two workdays. Better than being behind a desk with no window in sight.

I love Jean Coutu.  One just a few blocks from me in Ottawa.  I drove way out of town to get my shots early at a private pharmacy.  I got both my first and second shots on the first day I was eligible to get them.

Anyways, can you just imagine how Americans would pronounce "Jean Coutu".  It would be funny as heck.

I can imagine how they pronounce it in Ottawa, and trust me, that's also funny as heck.

Though looking into the company... they seem super dope at face value.  Employees are all associates, top to bottom.  I can find expected prices for most drugs I can think of on their website.  And they do stuff like that?

I know some french, and I can speak it like an American Redneck.  Can I move to Ottawa, or is there more that is required?
