Better than 2554th. Or even 156th. So, yeah, it ain't bad.

I live in the Happy Valley, and I have one of the three best hospitals in the state next door. For anything better, I'd have to be in Boston, proper. In going to Bay State, I have some of the best surgeons and teams in the world, and they have access to advice from the best teams in the world. 13th in the country ain't a bad thing. Bay State regularly places in the top 50, so 13th is a damn good team.

There are a LOT of hospitals so yes.  That's mathematically very good, top 0.1% of all US Hospitals.

Everyone that's been treated there ends up dying, so you do the math.

yeah, but everyone dies.  You wanna die at the 13th best hospital or the 14th bet hospital.  THINK, born_yesterday.

everyone who's ever been in a hospital does. Study it out sheeple.

Kind of meaningless. Most hospitals (at least around here) are known for a particular strength. Mass General is the "better" hospital according to this list, but if you have cancer you go to Dana Farber.

If you think this is bad youve never been to a chinese hospital.

Fun fact : the worst hospital in the US is better than the top 10 best hospitals in China.

exactly this. You can be a top 1% hospital in med surg, but if you don't have trauma services it doesn't mean anything for people who need that specialty.

Its good. There are 147 hospitals in Pennsylvania and 6090 in the US.  13th out of 6090 is something to be proud of.

It used to be that way until Bidencare was enacted under Obama and ruined the healthcare system. My rats have skyrocketed since then

Penn gets you the fancy surgeries the regional hospitals can't.  Penn is also the size of a city state where it feels like they lose "misplace" patients and their things and that the departments intentionally don't talk to each other out of spite.

Talked to many westerners who studied medicine in China and lived in China for years and the things they describe in chinese hospitals, even the ones in Beijing, are atrocious. Half the stuff thats going on in a chinese hospital would be a major scandal in the US or Europe.

No soaps in hospitals, not even in the bathrooms..., posters on the wall telling people to not spit on the ground (because people do that a lot in china), a lot of doctors dont really know what the fark they are doing thanks to chinese universities teaching medicine being basically someone reading powerpoints copied from the books you have to buy, asking questions is basically a crime against the state and the chinese government has approved standard procedures for X condition, regardless of each patient particular cases. The hospitals are absolutely filthy, built like crap...

Communism, shiatty education and the hospital officials stealing money from the hospital budgets = hospitals are garbage.

And thats not to mention the insane beliefs in BS ''traditional chinese medicine'' across China that is as legit as astrology.

If you're sick, dont get treated in China, you'll have a farking terrible experience, if you survive.

Well its better than 14th.

2021-07-29 8:22:14 PM
Everything is 13th on some list, unless there are only 12 items that are not 13th on a list anywhere.  If there are 13 items that are not 13th on any list, then you could make a list of items that are not 13th on a list, and place the item 13th on that list, and hence the item would be 13th on a list.

So good luck triskaidekaphobics.  You just have to limit yourself to 12 items in the universe to be safe.

Besides the lack of soap and having to remind people not to spit on the floor, all of that can draw similarities to American hospitals. I've been working in hospitals for over a decade and worked for #2 on that list for 8 of them, people don't wash hands, some doctors have no idea what they're doing, and there are providers that take advantage of the system. I don't doubt that Chinese hospitals are bad, but I'm saying for what I've seen in hospitals stateside were no angels either. Maybe we don't have Eastern Medicine Hokum, but we have all flavors of nutters that believe they're smarter than the one managing their care.

You know, on top of that the insurance companies dictate what we can do for their patients, so in that respect there is a pre-filled checklist of stuff to do for patients here too. It's just run by greedy insurance companies instead of totalitarian regimes.

Their elevators suck too bad.

/ Seriously. Got a committee started to revamp them.
// 6 months of meetings with a bunch of "stakeholders"  led by a paid coordinator to come to a consensus to improve them.
/// A year later they finally implement the exact opposite change to the elevators programming then say the money is spent so live with it.

True in theory, but is anyone #1 in med Surg? Those floors are always horror shows staffed by the dregs.

I smoked pot with Johnny Hopkins. It was Johnny Hopkins and Sloan Kettering. And they were blazing that sh*t up every day.

you can't blame them. It's not their floor, not their patient, their ratio is 1:8, and they are just starting last friday

Elevators at UWMC or BJC?  Haven't been to UWMC since 2006 so I don't know how they've changed since.

Nevermind, I saw your profile.  Good hospital in spite of the elevators I guess.  BJC's at least are decent.

Okay, yeah, I do seem to remember them being janky.  I went there from 2000-2006, including a few hospitalizations.

Sorry to hear that. If you got wheeled to imaging for an x-ray or cat scan or anything in 2002 I hope my people did a good job. I might've wheeled you myself, particularly in 2001 when I was doing it full time. I still did it about a third of the time when I was the imaging transporters manager.

/decided I REALLY didn't like being management.

It's possible.  I was in once in dec 2001 and June 2002.  Got x-rays both times to check picc line placement.  I was in for cystic fibrosis complications.
