I've got no interest in Las Vegas, but maybe check the contempt a bit subby. It sucks that mask mandates are starting back up again and I don't think people who planned vacations a month ago could have seen this coming. Now they've probably got non-refundable tickets and a shiatty choice to make. Ease up.

An interview I heard with the brothel owner was they set their own price but there's a vig to use the establishment?

It's been a few years and a pandemic, but that's what I think the system was.

It has not been smart a single day in the last year and a half to gather with large numbers of people in close quarters.

I was planning on going to a conference in Vegas that mandates vaccination AND masking for all attendees, vendors, even the hotel and conference center staff.

And then Delta happened.

I'm out a couple hundred bucks on tickets, and am pretty damn disappointed... But it just isn't worth it right now. The risk is too high to justify going, especially when half the people I'd want to see have already cancelled their plans too.

Meh.

I am taking a vacation (albeit not to Vegas) in Sept. Even if I have to mask up, it will still be nice to get away. I would likely have to mask up where I am now anyways. Plus my vacation won't involve large indoor crowds (although it won't be sheltering in place either). I am vaccinated, and the risk is worth it, I need to get away for a bit.

I have a cousin who got married and had a kid during the pandemic, and since her Jamaican destination wedding was cancelled is having it in Las Vegas in two months. My family got our invite last week, including a text from my aunt who really wants us to come. No farking way.

I would have considered Jamaica just for the fishing and herbal remedies but that was before Covid and when I would still consider flying.

Also, these people don't really have the money to be doing a destination wedding, but whatevs. Send me a registry link and I'll get them a gift, but I'm not going to vegas.

Just got back from Vegas last week right before the masks came back.

The first salvo I encountered was the Pinball Hall of Fame - they required masks.

Beyond that, didn't see any other place that required masks - and we all know the vaccination rate in Clark County is...

Take the under!

Yeah, fair point. I was identifying with them because we're planning vacation too, but ours involves a road trip to Chicago and seeing also-vaccinated friends in homes and cafes, not hours crowded into casinos.

You are talking about epople who thought taht they could use peer presure, of all thing, to plan to do a very dangerous, very tupid thing - make plans during a pandemic. And they thought the whole farking world would see all that money and planning they did, and think there is no way to stop them.

They were farking idiots, and they knew it, and they hoped mart people, adult, kids, everyone, would be scared to lose their lethal few days of business.

As if, were we to cancel their fun next week, they wouldn't just reschedule it for Decemeber or something.

They get no mercy, for their lies that they didn't see this coming, for their lies about what is normal, basic, planning.

I have it on good authority that some of the casinos are considering shutting down again.  Their main business is not tourists, it's conventions and they are not interested in repeating the experience of having the kind of guests that stay when rooms are $50/night.

Anybody who actually listened to medical professionals would have seen this coming. They've been basically going "NO, the pandemic is NOT over!" ever since the first idiot made the suggestion that the existence of a vaccine meant it was.

Destination weddings which one does not attend don't require a gift.

Or any wedding, actually. But especially destination ones, and especially during a f*cking pandemic.

I've gone there in August for conventions, I'd never seen an outdoor LCD display who's backing had completely melted off before.  I'd also never before seen a negative humid-ex modifier, as in "52c, feels like 45c".

They new location is just a bit north of the Welcome to Las Vegas sign across LV Blvd from Mandalay Bay.

And if you can't find it with just that for instructions, you're an idiot.  :P

All the old school games are a quarter, old electronic games are 50 cents and the new ones are 75 cents or a dollar.

They also have some old school video games, it took some self discipline to not drop $20 on Gauntlet.

Pretty much all the machines are in great working order - every once in a while I found a flipper that couldn't get the job done.

I giggled uncontrollably when I triggered the 13 ball multiball on Apollo 13, and pretty much everything on Attack From Mars.

The beauty of the place is that it's a non-profit.  At the end of the month when the bills are paid, the excess goes to the Salvation Army.  So I didn't feel bad about buying dollar cans of pop or buying a $20 t-shirt.

They got me for almost $40, which is a drop in the bucket on what the Four Queens got from me.

Stupid $1 10/7 DB...

The truth is, though, for the fully vaccinated there currently isn't rally a pandemic. Yeah, we should be safe and not be unmasked unvaccinated who can't help it (i.e. children, those with disqualifying medical conditions) because we might spread asymptomatically. But the motherfarkers who have thus far refused to get the damned vaccine? I'm out of patience for them. Screw every last one of them. Fark their feelings: get jabbed or find out.

2021-07-29 11:36:49 PM
My sister and a couple cousins just canceled their annual Vegas trip. They didn't get to go last year and thought they'd go this year but they're all pretty damn careful and now they're pissed off and everything but they've canceled. So I think they're going to miss out on fun as long as we have such a great crop of morons in America

2021-07-30 1:56:23 AM
CSB: I've been to Vegas twice now during the pandemic, once last November, once over July 4th weekend. I was fully vaxxed for the most recent trip, but wasn't able to get the jab before the trip last year.

Despite all five of us being vaccinated before the July trip, everyone in our group wore our masks religiously, and each carried a bottle of sanitizer which we used every time we exited any buildings, even when shiathammered (it helped that we're all, um... "alcohol enthusiasts" and can maintain function fairly well). These were the same steps we took in November. We also made it a point to move away from very large crowds of people, as social distancing basically didn't exist, especially on the 4th. Since the trip, none of our group have come down with anything, and neither have any of our family members or coworkers.

This is NOT to say that the risks are overblown or anything approaching that, as the risks are very real, especially with delta floating around now. What this IS to say is that any situations like this are an exercise in harm reduction--every step you take to keep safe, even small ones, will chip away at the risk level, at least to some degree. Granted, skipping the trip would have been the safest course of action, but... for a whole slew of reasons, I adore Las Vegas, as do my friends. We all discussed the risks at length before we made the decision to travel. For us, at least, it was worth the risk. We may have all just been lucky both times, but I firmly believe our preventative measures had at least something to do with it.

Having had these experiences, the current situation infuriates me even more. If people had Just. Freaking. Listened. to the experts and taken basic precautions, the virus would be much more minimized now, and we'd be better prepared for delta, or whatever comes after that. As it is, I have very little hope of us coming out of this anytime soon, particularly now that variants have appeared and nearly a third of the country refuses to wear masks or take a safe, effective vaccine, all because of Muh Freedums. Screwing up my trips to Vegas is one thing, but deliberately exposing themselves and those around them to infection is a whole 'nother planet of hatefulness that I'll never be able to wrap my head around.

TL;DR: A bunch of us went to Vegas twice and didn't get sick because we were super careful (although this was pre-delta). Also, the US has a lot of assholes.

/End CSB
