Never really had the desire to do anything in Detroit.

Great idea.  Show off your ride in Detroit.  Cops will be taking notes.

Not on who to arrest, but on which cars to steal later.

A one-eighth mile section of the road will be transformed

So Vin Diesel's gonna have to run this thing twice to live his life?  Doesn't sound very fun.

I so wish that I could post John cleese versus Eric idle in the skit " drag racing " but I am on my mobile and it hates me. With good reason.

They do that sh*t here in Southern Oregon.  It's just a drunk fest as they have it super late at night.  I haven't been in like 10 years but I remember it being a good time.  There was always a fight or two so plenty of entertainment.

Pontiac isn't Detroit. Woodward Avenue runs through both cities, starting in Detroit & heading north until it turns into a freeway (or did last time I looked, 2015). Pontiac is in Oakland County, Detroit in Wayne County. If you're going to classify every city within an hour of Detroit AS Detroit, the folks in Windsor, Ontario may want to have a word.

Anyway, you can drag race in Detroit any day of the year; just wait till the light turns red, lay on your horn & flatten that pedal.

Detroit used to have (legal) drag racing occasionally on one of the runways at City Airport. Don't know if they do it anymore, due to Covid. I think the former police chief James Craig started that to discourage illegal drag racing. Now, Outer Drive just north of the airport used to have a lot of illegal drag racing in the summer; lately, not so much.

Woodward doesn't exactly turn into a freeway. The northern end loops around Pontiac. It used to be called "Wide Track Drive", now it's called "The Loop" At one intersection (Huron Street), you can turn right, and that leads to the M-59 freeway, but you are definitely not on Woodward at that point.

/and Windsor is "South Detroit"

I figured the smart thing to do was take all those empty lots, build small(ish) houses on them, and sell them to veterans at 1.9% or so. Turn the city into a city dedicated to serving veterans. Lots of homeless vets could be housed that way, and people would be surrounded by others who have been through the same shiat as you, so there's probably someone who could help when times are tough.

Transition from manufacturing to service, with vets as the target demographic.

Only if a 1500+ HP giant tire car shows up with a talented driver. I say that because it's enormously hard to beat 1k instant torque going through 4 wheels and perfect traction control. Frankly it's just not fair.

And Zealand don't do well at all in quick turnaround runs at all.  Waaaay worse than a Skyline for recovery.

Unlikely on an unprepped street and only an 1/8th mile. On a prepped 1/4 mile track there are Tesla plaids running low 9s. No 700hp Hellcat is running that even on a prepped track. And the Tesla wouldn't be all that much slower on an unprepped street.

The airport's in Romulus, a half hour outside the city of Detroit.

That poor city's run through more silver bullet plans than Bob Seger's road manager.

Not just unlikely - impossible. I think he's confusing the old Tesla P100ds with the Plaid. Which is a crazy difference.

And let's be frank: if you're looking for the fastest out-of-the-box super car you can buy, the Plaid is not just the fastest (in the 1/8th mile) it's TWENTY times cheaper.
