It seems like there weren't as many car flips before USB-C.

This seems as an apropos thread to ask as anywhere: wtf happened to the poltab? Was it really that bad? Because to be honest when I was not TF, that was the place to be.

Now I'm just saying "F*ck everything. Imma go listen to some Huey Lewis and The News -- maybe even a little Kenny Loggins, and nobody can stop me!"

Quick and Dirty: wtf happened to the poltab?

Yes.

Yes, but what about the injuries from the crash? 🤦🏻♀

Yeah, yeah.  Car bad.  Car dangerous.  We know.

Does anyone have experience with ebikes and have thoughts on what to beware of or look for with them?  I'm looking to replace my 5-10 mile travel with one and would appreciate thoughts.

They're underpowered motorcycles, so please keep them off the bike paths if you wouldn't mind.

There's certainly different varieties.  There's the models with a throttle where you don't pedal.  There's others that are pedal-assist through their electric motor and usually have a peak speed of 15-20mph, from what I'm finding.  My own inclination is towards a pedal-assist ebike.

What kinds of issues have you had with them on paths?

Most importantly you need to be sure your insurance is solid. Your bike will get stolen. And if you have not had previous experience riding a traditional bike over your 10 mile travel route(s) you will have encounters new to you with other vehicles.

LOL. In Chicago everyone on that block would've been shot by the dudes in the tumbling car.
/Seriously car theft and jacking have been on the rise all across the US and Canada(yes up there also). Most of these cars are not used in other crimes, they are simply vanishing.

just a shot in the dark, if you use key words in your internet search i'd bet there are lots of ebike Forums with archives of input out the wazoo

The issue here is you're both thinking of different things under "e-bike". That name can mean what you want - a battery assisted bicycle - or it can also mean basically an electric scooter.

http://Radpowerbikes.com

Bought the rad rover 5 around March I think. I love it. 5 levels of pedal assist, or just straight balls to the wall full throttle.

Tops out at 25. And I mean it. If you get to 25 going downhill it will actually slow you down to stay at 25.

Battery life is great so far, though I haven't yet taken it more than 10-15 miles round-trip, but when that barely put a dent in it.

Only drawback, it's a farking beast. Like 90 pounds. I chose this model specifically for the fat tires for Michigan winters. They have plenty of other models though. Took about 5 days to ship from Washington state. Very easy to assemble.

I can and I have.  That doesn't preclude tossing out an open-ended question in an active thread related to road traffic.  There used to be a willingness to ask flesh and bone humans what their thoughts and experiences are on a topic.  If you don't have thoughts on the matter, that makes two of us!  I don't have an ebike either so I would be worthless answering my own question.  Sometimes folks will share ideas I hadn't thought to ask.

Ah-ha!  I didn't know they got that heavy.  I'm hoping to be able to use my bike to occasionally get on Amtrak and they have a weight limit of 50lbs.

That's really interesting thoughts.  I know roadway accidents get covered by auto insurance, even if you're a pedestrian here in NJ.  For property loss like that, I'd expect that's household insurance?  If I'm able to, I would like to reach a point of getting rid of my car, which would mean also tossing the car insurance.  I've been looking up stuff on bike locks and techniques and just hope I never find the LockPickingLawyer out in the wild.  Do you have thoughts on bike securing?

I agree about the paths to follow.  I've been trying to plot out calmer roadways to get places through my area, avoiding major roads where possible, but that is pretty intimidating.

flipping several times after trying to dodge a parked car

That can be tricky.
