Good. F*ck that company.

Excuse my lack of surprise that a shiatty game company is also run by shiatty people. Their no EA but not for lack of trying.

You would think big companies would have learned by now that allowing the CEO's Chad nephew a management position with their only qualification being keg stands and 7 "alleged" sexual assault complaints in college would be a bad idea but yet again here we are...

Well, they should start at the top and fire Bobby, preferably into the Sun.

For Blizzard in particular, it's notable because they had made it to such great heights only to fall so very far after their merger with Activision.

Well I guess ATVI is in damage control now, announcing they will pay employees for engaging in a public protest against the company.

I'd say I'd join a boycott in support of the walkout, but apparently the last time I bought a game from the company was in 2015.

The Blizzard of 2004 when everyone started playing World of Warcraft is long gone. All of those OG Developers/staff have been shiatcanned ages ago after Activision took over and started replacing all the real talent with idiot lackeys.

Trump stooge Steve Bannon made his fortune selling WoW gold. And most recently, Blizzard has been hiring other Trump stooges who lost their jobs after January 20th. Those MAGA connections to the company alone should have been enough warning flags.

Plus how they BOW TO MAO by crushing anyone who dared to speak up for Hong Kong independence.

And I don't even need to get into the apocalyptic TF2 clone sh*tshow that should be titled "NeverWin".

It takes a certain level of awful to out-evil EA, but here we are.

Just burn it all down.

I'm doing my best to help ensure their downfall by not buying anything either of those companies have produced since 2012.

Let's just move on to the next demographic that defines themselves entirely by the products they consume.

skyotter: Is "video gamer" culture salvageable at this point? Do we even want to?

I mean, I'm always skeptical about the value of a "culture" which is predicated on consuming products and affinity to brands. That's not really a "culture" to begin with. The idea that there's some meaningful gamer subculture that stretches across the whole world of "gaming" is laughable on its face. That's not to say that there aren't meaningful communities that spring up around games, or that meaningful subcultures are impossible, but to try and treat "gamer" as some monolithic identity- well, that only benefits people who want to exclude people from that identity.

It's no coincidence, it's our system of incentives. Our society rewards - richly - people like that, and also tends to lionize the greed and selfishness of people in corporate leadership roles which should be red flags for this sort of mentality.

Add in an extremely stratified society, with little social mobility, and an ownership/executive class which is in large part a game of musical chairs (and their kids get first shot at those chairs after they retire), and it's a never ending onslaught.

I am still playing WoW and regularly raiding. I think it is because I'm part of a large guild and we keep it family friendly.

I also play Overwatch. The only time I report another player is if they use violently profane or racist language. I have received a number of messages from blizzard staying my reporting has caused something to happen to that player. They won't give me names or what the actions were..

I know Blizzard won't sleep with me.

I hate to break it to you but a bunch of the people named in the lawsuit were old guard Blizzard guys who've been there since 04 or earlier. There's likely a reason a lot of the bigger names(Morhaime, Kaplan, etc.) started leaving after the investigation started.

You know, instead of all these laughably insincere apologies we have been hearing from Blizzard in the wake of these scandals, it might almost be refreshing to hear one of them just say, "You know what, fark it, the shareholders and CEO never cared about our environment as long as we kept printing them money, so I'm not about to start pretending to care now.  I'm just going to sit back and crack open a White Claw and wait for all of this to blow over.  So yeah, talk shiat about me on twitter all you want and see how long your boycott lasts when we drop Diablo IV."

I had a feeling that when that creep Kaplan pulled the yellow & black handle to eject, it was either because (A) OverWatch 2 was going to be an absolute stock-wrecking sh*tshow, or (B) something big was coming down and he wanted to get out of the impact zone.

A guy known for being a "bully" during his time working for Trump.

Yeah, THIS guy is going to certainly be on the side of the female employees, all right (rolls eyes). Bet he was hired to terrify the staff into keeping their mouths shut during the investigation.

Since Kaplan is the primary reason that Blizzard hired Afrasiabi in the first place (they were both high end raid guild leaders in Everquest and Blizzard hired Kaplan first), he probably didn't want to get caught in the fallout.

The fact that video games became a "culture" through the sheer magnetism of marketing dollars, means it was astroturfed from the beginning.

I have been playing WoW since 2007 and have 82 characters. I stopped playing last December when I was stricken with shingles and four weeks later, a stroke. I haven't played since because about all I can handle now is Animal Crossing: New Horizons. I am thinking about pausing my WoW account, but I am sure that as soon as I do, I'll want it back because I'll be ready for it again. This whole situation going on right now has me leaning more toward cancelling. Activision has ruined WoW and we knew it would happen at some point.

It wasn't from the beginning. Sony's marketing department created the concept of games as a lifestyle in order to sell the PS1 to an older audience. Before that they were just entertainment.
