It's a Beta feature as in "You beta not use it."

The future sucks.

Smart summon is not using the v9.x FSD stack, yet.  Even then I am sure Musk's enginerds will pull apart the telemetry to see if there are lessons that can help this from happening again.

"Alford is a huge Tesla fan and happens to be a software developer himself.

"I really support the company a lot," said Alford, "This type of stuff intrigues me, I really like it but I just don't like their response, I think they should be a little bit better about their customer service."

I feel that a software developer should realize that this Tesla feature is a beta release, and shouldn't expect too much support. His fanboy self is blinding him.

I never understood the point of having a self-destruct button on your world domination device.
It is already in the wrong hands.

That's a sad way to privatize the NHSA & NTSB's job.

Boy, anyone who trusts this garbage software for anything more than cruise control (with a chance of running into a stationary object at highway speeds) is a moron

Especially with how much money you have to waste to get these features in the first place

Ehh, radius dents. You'll have a dozen Hispanic dent doctors offering a repair, if my experience stands as a norm. Seriously, try to back up and come out where you want but the Amazon truck is in your way? Should have just gone the other way.

A beta release he paid a subscription for.

Danica Edison would not have crashed this car.

Does anyone know someone who has done this? I do. We all know how it happens. You just turn your car because, why not? And you forget that your back wheel (back axle?) has to clear, or nearly clear the obstacle. And it has to be the INNER back wheel on the turn that has to clear. And if you don't, then better get MAACO.

You know.... American folklore has John Henry competing with a steam drill and Paul Bunyan competing against an automated timber processor. We have all seen the Disney adaptations of humanity getting beaten, even to death, by automation. They are the luddite swan songs that we idealize in our mind. Everyone hopes that a super human is going to compete with machines and win. Some wise guy in a labcoat is not going to beat our spirit!

I propose a new FOLK HERO who can do all driving tasks better than a TESLA! I am going to call her Danica Edison, and she is the symbolic human driver who will not let humanity be put under the TESLA YOKE! And if she loses someday, she will die with a steering wheel in her hand.

The future used to be so bright I had to wear shades...Then it got so dark I finally took them off.  Turns out they were rose-colored anyway.

That's great. I can picture the car plowing through walls like in a cartoon.

He says he absolutely thinks Tesla should cover the cost of the damage and feels let down by a company he really looks up to.

That is the dumbest thing I've read so far today. Why would any car manufacturer pay when an idiot crashes their car?

I say that as a Tesla owner that uses smart summon probably too much. I use it all the time. Why? Hell I paid for it and it's cool af to have your car pick you up, pull out of a parking spot and pop open the door for you. The rednecks go wild when they see it in action. It's a big ole remote control car. That said, the car is incredibly dumb. You *need* to watch where it's going.
