I got a free ticket to that movie for donating some canned food to a food bank.

Only the actors wearing ape suits seemed to give a damn.

Mark Walhberg seemed to just wander through the movie going 'Yeah, whatever.. I just want to go home..'

I saw that garbage in the movie theater. I wanted my money back. WTF, Tim Burton?  The new Apes movies make up for it, but the original first movie is the best.

Jesus Christ, 20 years? I remember seeing it in the theater. It doesn't feel like that long ago.

Goddamn. I'm getting old. Just kill me now.

That was disappointing. I was thinking, "Tim Burton? Planet of the Apes? Tim Roth? I'm in!"

The subsequent movies were quite good.

And I'm sure he was bringing all of his talent to bear, and that was the best he could do.

To be fair, the "actors wearing ape suits" were extremely talented people like Tim Roth, Michael Clarke Duncan, Helena Bonham-Carter, and Paul Giamatti. WAY more than was called for, for whatever this thing was.

I spent six weeks in the desert (and a few more here and there on sets) as part of the Ape Army.  Any time you see a scene with a bunch of gorilla soldiers standing around, I'm in there somewhere.

It had such promise. And then ended up being so disappointing.

Well, I made enough to put the down payment on a new car, so it had that going for it.

As I've become older, I realized that the Doctor Zaius character is less villain, more antagonist.  He's in the wrong, but you get where he's coming from.  When all the evidence suggests humans are dangerous lunatics by nature, what would YOU have done, in his place?

Three S's.  Shoot, Shovel, and Shut up.

Taylor and the others wouldn't have survived long enough to become public knowledge, once it became clear they weren't like the other humans.

If, of course, I were Dr. Zaius and my civilization and my position was predicated on  there being no "intelligent" humans.

But he did make that crack about how Helena Bonhan Carter is an ape costume gave off a "sexy Janet Jackson vibe"

Dr. Zaius knew all along that there were intelligent humans, that was scrubbed from the Sacred Scrolls.  That's why he was so much more alarmed by the very existence of Taylor than he was surprised.  Humans had always been mute and animal-like as far as most apes were concerned.

Ha! I came here to post how my friend said, "Helena Bonham Carter's hot like that," in a packed theater. We lost it, died laughing with people glaring.

For the summer of 2001, there was an 18-year-old man named... Monkeyfarker. It just... rolls off the tongue.

"Goddammit, Monkeyfarker! Get the flag!"
"Zerg that Monkeyfarker before he gets that helicarrier built!"
"Monkeyfarker gets 5 to the head from fireball." Etc...

Which is why he should have eliminated them immediately.  And put Cornelius and Zira on notice that talking about them with others would be considered heresy and would be punished.

Likewise, Burton. His decision to direct the POTA reboot had a lot to do with the fact the producers were also promising him the chance to direct Big Fish which is the movie he really wanted to do. It's another example of the Hollywood maxim about "doing one for them and doing one for you."
