You don't want a "heat dome". It's very, very bad.

In "Landed men on the farking moon" units, it's 107.  You're welcome.

Fun fact: The LEM computed everything in metric and then converted it into Imperial units so the astronauts could read it.  America's spacecraft were fluent in metric and needed to spoon-feed Imperial drivel for the gallant rocketmen.

Also a fun fact:
Americans who have walked on the moon: 12
Every other country combined: 0

How's that moon colony workin' out?

Oooooh that's right, the US can't even provide minimal health care for its own people.

Yup you got us. Murica sucks. That's why we have a massive immigration.

When I was little, we found a man. He looked like... like, butchered. The old woman in the village crossed themselves... and whispered crazy things- strange things. "El Diablo cazador de hombres." Only in the hottest years this happens- and this year, it grows hot. We begin finding our men. We found them sometimes without their skins... and sometimes much, much worse. ..."El cazador trofeo de los hombres" means "the demon who makes trophies of men".

Stop mowing.

Raise that mower deck and plow through that yard faster, this kind of weather instability keeps up that short cut grass is going to die off.

I already know that and do that. I'm not the one who has a crispy fried yard.

Awesome, just spreading the word. You never know when there's a new homeowner in the thread who would appreciate knowing these things before their lawn dies.

Beerguy: This is from June 16th:
"No easy way to say this, so we'll just cut straight to the chase: it's going to be *very* hot for a long time," tweeted the National Weather Service in Salt Lake City
in the lead-up to this historic heat wave. This heat wave and the exceptional drought in the Southwest are part of a damaging feedback loop enhanced by climate change, experts say. The hotter it gets, the drier it gets; the drier it gets, the hotter it gets.
It has been 95 + here every day since and there doesn't seem to be any relief on the horizon.
I don't want to hear that, "well, that's just summer" bullshiat. I have lived hear for 16 years and we have never had a 2 month long "heat dome" situation.

Ditto.  A 90-degree day here used to be unheard of.
It's 90 almost every single day, and if it's not, it's in the high 80s.
And were not in the news.  Its not extreme enough.

I've been here most of my life now.  I chose the cold.  It still gets cold--but not like it used to.  But "hot" was barely in our vocabulary.
Now it's hot almost every day, and I've lived in the desert.  I'm very tolerant of heat.  But this is so farked.
We just took everything on earth and transported it to another planet.

And we're still trying to ignore it....

I'm going to get flamed for this (remember when people said that?) but Fahrenheit is the superior temperature measurement.  It's those "every always metric all the time" cockholes who can't do simple math screeching about it.

Metric is nice in certain ways. 1 gram = 1 cubic centimeter of water. That's some good smart shiat.

Everything else, fark, I have a functioning brain and can do simple calculations. And for wrenches, I have two sets. Oh gosh. Apocalypse.

I like fractionals. I appreciate metric. I'm still aggravated trying to figure out thread sizes in either - though I think the Imperial/English/SAE system (what-farking-ever) makes more sense. With so much old stuff out there, and so much new stuff being spectacularly out of spec... it's never going to go away but I wish someone would just pick one farking thing that makes sense. And I still like the simplicity of a slot screw, pretty much hate phillips for aesthetic and cam-out reasons (oh great, that farker's stripped because cheap farking screw factory), square drive is great, hex is nice for machinery, pentalobe is good, but irritating, security pentalobe is just saying "hey fark you, don't open this, even though you're probably smarter than the meth-head who put it together."

Farking fasteners. You know, when you find an old hardware store that hasn't gone to the full Ace bullshiat rebranding, buy all the screws, nuts and bolts you can. The ones in the back of the drawer, with just a bit of rust on them.

Hallelujiah, holy shiat, where's the Tylenol?

Not flaming you.  You're just wrong.  Metric is superior in every way.  I've spent 30+ years configuring CNC machines (mostly Fanuc controls), installing them around the world, and training operators.  I'm Canadian, so I'm fluent in both inch & metric (I was 10 when we made the switch).  When I would spend a month or more outside North America, on returning to Canada I was struck with how awful Imperial units are.

How much did you spend on two sets of tools?  Don't you think 1/2 that money could be put to better use?

You can continue using fractions in metric, you'll just get odd looks.  BTW, what's 5-15/16" + 3-3/4?  I know you can work it out, as can I.  In metric you'd have something like 125.9 + 75.7, which is much simpler to calculate.

Tap specs?  Again, real easy.  Mdia x pitch.  M10-1.5 is 10mm dia and 1mm pitch.  Tap drill dia is 8.5mm.  Contrast to the inch examples: 1/2-13, so 1/2" dia and 13 TPI (which is 1/13=0.077" pitch).  And tap drill might be a letter, number, or decimal inch size.  Not to mention there's the "#-TPI" and "fractional-TPI" split; below 1/4" the #-TPI convention is used, where the # is some arbitrary value starting at 0 and ending at 12, then switches to fractional"-TPI for the larger (>1/4" dia) sizes.

You didn't mention, but I will... every modern CNC is fundamentally a metric machine.  And in metric mode, with 3 decimal places, you are specifying positions 2.54 more accurate than in 4 decimal place inch mode.

You mention Fahrenheit is best for temperature.  Bullshiat.  It's just what you're used to.  And ironically, it's also the easiest to assimilate.   Not everyone measures or weighs things, but everyone "lives" in the current temperature, so you very quickly relate the Celsius value to the current temperature.

The USA can do it.  You guys put men on the moon, after all.  We Canadians are doing it.  It's a long process, but so worth it!  I figure 4 or 5 generations are needed to flush out all the old machinery.  My kids were not taught inch units in school, but are well aware of it and deal with easily.  So my great-great grandchildren should be free of the nonsense that is "Imperial" units.

As for screwdrivers, Robertson ("square" in caveman speak) is ideal for most applications.  But stay away from the cheap drivers.

I bet we agree on one thing: the fasteners that have all three common heads (slot, Phillips, Robertson) are the worst!  I think someone who's never used a screwdriver invented them.

Cheers!

That's pretty much the Phoenix area every summer. During the day time if absolutely had to go out you pretty much dash from air conditioned space to air conditioned space. With pauses to let the car cool before getting in, much like you let them warm up in cold climates. When you can arrange it, do everything else after sundown.

When I first moved there I had a black car with charcoal interior. I made the mistake of parking it when I was going to be getting in and out of it a few times during the afternoon. The first time it was like opening an oven. I had to leave the doors open for five to ten minutes for it to cool enough to sit in long enough to turn on the A/C.

inelegy: So, what you're saying is that summer is warm and a thing that happens?

Thanks for the Guardiansplaination!

heh heh heh. Uhhh no.... We're talking places with typically mild summer climates having 110-120F degrees with high humidity, people by the hundreds dying from the heat, the power going out, animals and sea life dying, wildfires raging, etc etc etc... I live in the Pacific Northwest, which is renowned for very mild pleasant summers, where it's usually low 80s, and when this happened in July, usually still a bit rainy and 60s-70s (summer doesn't start till August, in the PNW usually, and runs into September, then the rain comes back and it's fall weather).

This aint just summer. This shiat was horrible. You had to drive a day or two to find the nearest available a/c unit for sale. It's not common to have a/c in my region. You rarely need it. It pretty much never gets triple digits and it might only hit 90 once in a year every few years. It was 112 with 80% humidity. More than 100 people died in 3 days in my state, which is much higher than covid deaths in that time.

As much as I am ignorant of celcius and metric cause it's just not used here yes you are correct. NASA uses metric so that comment about landing on the moon units was funny (If you watch NASA live streams it's all metric units, despite being a US govt. entity), not imperial. I actually wish we would use metric here too. But it is what it is. I grew up with imperial, and so I think in imperial, so to speak.

Don't you guys think that it's very peculiar that "Sleepy Joe" from the debates is nowhere to be found? Biden looks like the reincarnation of Kennedy. He looks like the hero saving America. So sharp and energetic. He got covid under control (not really), got everyone back to work and is now going to fix the infrastructure.

Imagine how pissed off people are going to be when a Trumper shoots him deflating the dream of a revived America?

Civil War. Then ten countries gang up and finish America. It's all in Revelation 17 & 18.

Revelation 17:4 And I heard another voice from heaven saying, "Come out of her, my people, lest you share in her sins, and lest you receive of her plagues. 5For her sins have reached to heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities. 6Render to her just as she rendered to you, and repay her double according to her works; in the cup which she has mixed, mix double for her. 7In the measure that she glorified herself and lived [e]luxuriously, in the same measure give her torment and sorrow; for she says in her heart, 'I sit as queen, and am no widow, and will not see sorrow.' 8Therefore her plagues will come in one day-death and mourning and famine. And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

all those 5 are still alive.

A fallen king is one who is not a king anymore. The passage doesn't imply or state that these 5 kings are dead.

It does say that the last one must continue a short time... THAT implies Biden's death... in the year of the Curse of Tippecanoe... and interesting twist.

What happened to Regan?

Reagan died. People thought Reagan was the AntiChrist, he wasn't.
Anti-Christ is not coming from America. America won't even be here for his reign.

Also, the Anti-Christ won't identify himself until the temple in Jerusalem is rebuilt. That won't happen until they discover the ark of the Covenant in Oak Island.

all those 5 are still alive.

Why those 5?

Because these five are the ones still alive. Do you know how rare it is to have 5 former presidents alive at the same time?

Where's Reagan? Dead. And either Bush Deador Bush the lesser? On the list between Carter and Clinton and "one is" what?
The "one is" means that this guy is the king for this moment. This moment is when this scripture occurs and that happened when Pence stood in for Trump and handed power over to Biden.

If we add Reagan and whichever Bush isn't listed that's 7. They don't count cause they're dead. And why count presidents?
Because we're talking about the leaders of Mystery Babylon which is America.

Why not British monarchs or monarch butterflys or CEOs of Exxon?

Because this scripture references the time at which these events occurred; Inauguration day when Pence stood in for Trump, he became the sixth "king" if even only to hand power to Biden.

The scripture has been fulfilled and the rest of it is in progress. That's the proof to get the true believers motivated to leave asap.

10There are also seven kings. Five have fallen, (Carter, Bush, Clinton, Obama, Trump) one is (Pence after Trump lost the election because he handed power over to Biden), and the other has not yet come. And when he (Biden) comes, he must continue a short time.

And she will be utterly burned with fire, for strong is the Lord God who judges her.

god damn you need a shrink

They called Jesus crazy too. They also said that Jesus had a demon, so I'll take that as high praise that I'm having an effect on someone.

Deuteronomy 18:20-22

So I assume when yet another Biblical prediction fails to come true you're going to kill yourself? I mean death is the penalty for making false predictions under God's name. And you don't want to go against his words, right?

I am interpreting Revelation 17 and 18 correctly. America is Mystery Babylon and will be utterly destroyed before your next Presidential election.

I am more than willing to die for Christ for whatever reason He decides, whenever He wants to take me. Jesus has given me the wisdom to discern these scriptures in order to warn His people to save themselves. Most people that go to church have no idea who Jesus is and will not be coming with Him.

When people refuse to hear God, He sends prophets. When they refuse to listen to the prophets, they die.

If you knew Jesus, you would be listening to Him and leaving America now instead of trolling me. May God enlighten you and remove the scales from your eyes, if for only an instant so that you may see the horrors that are coming for America.

Not really sure what a "heat dome" is

It's fricking all-time breaking high temps three days in a row and it doesn't get below 85 at night. I love the sun (and so do my flowers) but I never want to see 116 temps here again (and neither do my flowers).

rummonkey: NEDM: abhorrent1: Relax, genius. I'm not arguing about climate change. I know the extremes are basically here to stay.
I'm simply saying that given the choice, I'll prefer the extreme heat over extreme cold.

You don't *have* a choice anymore.  You're going to get both no matter farking what.

rummonkey: The jet stream pretty much doesn't even exist anymore as a reliable factor in whether generation in the northern hemisphere. We broke it and the damage is still developing.

In many ways it's already too late and we broke it.

The only choice left is when we want to punch out.

I am still holding out for Michael Caine's cabin in the woods from the movie Children of Men. Self-sufficient, away from the world, blazing away until the world ends.

I guess I'm waiting for a pregnant young black girl show me her milkbags.  Same movie. Cool

rummonkey: rummonkey: NEDM: abhorrent1: Supposedly gonna be in the 90's here all week. Kinda miserable but I'll take it over that stupid polar vortex any day though.

That's the point, genius.  The polar vortex is ALSO GOING TO HAPPEN! We have utterly screwed the jetstream, so our seasons are just going to be like this from now on!

The jet stream pretty much doesn't even exist anymore as a reliable factor in whether generation in the northern hemisphere. We broke it and the damage is still developing.

In many ways it's already too late and we broke it.

Something ate the rest of my post. This is what people were afraid of from the beginning, not so much global warming or sea levels Rising but increased instability in our weather culminating in our weather simply bouncing back and forth from one extreme to another increasingly erratic fashions.

Oh well! At least we got to drive our big trucks and roll coal.

People aren't even remotely anxious enough WRT the climate emergency. They *should* be freaking out, not chillaxing.

/maybe you should learn more about what accelerating anthropogenic global warming has in store for us

ZestyMordant: gunther_bumpass: Jumpthruhoops: TheSwizz: WhippingBoi: We had one of those here (SW BC) a few weeks ago. Temperatures hit 42 C (not sure what the equivalent caveman units are). As a frame of reference, 32 C is considered "unbearably hot" here.

You don't want a "heat dome". It's very, very bad.

In "Landed men on the farking moon" units, it's 107.  You're welcome.

Metric is superior in ever ...

Yeah, ok Ricky. I can keep at least two - 2! - things in my head at the same time. For the rest I can pull up... a CHART!

It's really farking difficult and sometimes I break a sweat but hoo boy...

Man, you gotta keep your story straight.

LadySusan: No AC is brutal.

in the late nineteen-eighties I found myself driving from Chico, California to nearby Oroville. On the way, I noticed a new subdivision on the outskirts of Chico; the houses were classic two-story affairs such as you find in the eastern states, but sitting in the hot, blazing sun of the Central Valley, with minimal eaves.

I concluded that an incompetent architect had designed these, an architect who didn't understand the importance of shade in such climates. And that's even with AC running.

Where is Frank Lloyd Wright when we need him? At least some of his designs included the wide eaves you need to get a little shade in the Central Valley.

I am also a little surprised that the building code (there and then) allowed such stupidities.

It is quite possible, of course, that the developer had picked the house design(s) out of a catalogue of Spiffy House Designs for New England and no architect was directly involved.
