So all throughout the pandemic, I've been putting off going to the eye doctor for more contacts, and recently been telling myself I'd go soon but forgetting to make the appointment. Then I had to drill a hole through a concrete wall in a crawlspace, and even with safety glasses on, my eyes got wrecked from the concrete dust. So I'm back to glasses, and I now remember just how much I hate them. I feel like The Michael Keaton Batman, who had the suit with the immobile neck so he had to do full body turns to see something beside him. I can't side-eye anyone who makes weird comments, either, as a.) I can't see them, and b.) they can't see my eyes, either.

The worst part is how weird and distorted everything seems. I was counting change at the gas station tonight and I honestly couldn't tell the difference between a quarter and a nickel, because they both seemed way too small. Which also explains why I'm afraid to take a shower.

Anyway, take the Quiz and come back and tell us how you did and if you've ever had to switch back to glasses after being used to glasses, and how you coped.

Don't forget the Easy Quiz!

Good luck, and let me know if you have any issues.

Wow, scored 50% on hard and 50% on easy.  Aren't there brick and mortar stores that sell drill bits locally?

I am so consistently bad at these quizzes, 4/14. The alternative answers really throw me off and got me second guessing. Some day I'll get it right

I couldn't find a 12" 7/8 masonry bit anywhere within an hour of my place. Everyone said they'd have to order it, so I was like, well hell, I can do that.

I wound up ordering another one from Amazon and got the hole drilled out, and the first bit is still wandering around Memphis somewhere. But at least my Dad has A/C now.

I try my best to come up with feasible wrong answers, and give another clue that some people might know even if they didn't see the original article.

The important thing here is that I was on the high score list.

Isn't it usually eleven questions?
Not as though the extra three helped my score any.. ;-p

Thank you for creating these quizzes ox45tallboy. They're always good fun!

I actually write 14 questions, and the system is supposed to give 11 of them in a random order. Sometimes I screw up with the parameters, like I apparently did again today.

If they were like me, they didn't have consistent internet access at work all week. We're just guessing, and sometimes you guys just give wrong options that sound more likely than the right ones.

Yeah, that's the only one I missed on Easy.

This is the first time I've even momentarily appeared n the top 10 on any quiz in months... and I've been too distracted by my loot from the Steam Summer Sale all month to Fark much.

(Except at work lol.)

Also, you get used to the distortion switching from contacts to specs.  At least you don't notice it once you get used to the floor looking two feet further away.

/switch back to contacts before you try to play outfield though

I used to get a lot of magazine reading done on the John. I don't even take the phone in there now.

I went back to glasses about a year and a half ago. The only benefit is being able to see easily on a lazy sunday morning. No fumbling with lenses in the morning. Just slip on the specs and go.

I'm going back to contact lenses as soon as I get around to booking a fitting.

3/10 on the hard quiz -- where have I been all week?

2021-07-24 4:26:28 PM
7 out of 11

I wore contacts from the time I first got them in 8th grade until ~23. Then I was in grad school and the aggravation of staying up all night with contacts in led to me getting pink eye multiple times. After that, I started wearing glasses almost exclusively. I just put in my contacts when exercising or doing something that requires me to wear safety glasses. The turning my head thing was really aggravating at first, but you get used to it. And I ended up getting some big nerd glasses so that I would have some ability to look without turning my head. The worse thing about wearing glasses was if I drank too much and forgot where I put them. I am not totally blind, but blind enough that I have accidentally stepped on them.

Recently I've started switching back to contacts again, and I forgot how nice it is to just look with my eyes and see something. Plus sunglasses. I am thinking about LASIK too since I finally have a HSA that I can put the money for it into.

My vision without corrective lenses is about 20/800. You know how some people should probably be wearing glasses to drive? There's no way I would trust myself to navigate a car at highway speed without glasses or contacts. I would die, to say nothing of my passengers. I can't even read my computer at normal desk distance (18-24" or so from the screen).
