Strange that he's wearing a Lazer helmet since his trade team, Ineos, uses Kask. I thought that their pro contracts extended to the Olympics.

I'm still impressed he finished the tour in support of his other guy after the separated shoulder. And then still came to the Olympics.

I can't believe that USA selected Craddock over Sepp Kuss. Also Quinn Simmons is totally on fire in Tour de Wallonie. Brandon McNulty has been hot and cold.

Glad Kuss got his stage win, that was a pretty cool day. No way Pogačar goes for a win since he didn't really need to try at the end of the Tour does he? I mean he was just going up the hills alone there.

solokumba: I think they should have pit stops to re-hydrate and to piss. Everybody should be given the same amount of time.

They carry bottles to hydrate constantly and they actually do have piss breaks where they all pull over and have a wee. They just usually do it when there aren't a lot of spectators and the cameras usually show other stuff but the announcers will tell you. "Oh, the racers are taking a leak, let's look at this castle for a moment..."

solokumba: Monty_Zoncolan: solokumba: I just don't understand the team cars in this race. It seems stupid to me.
Also, why do they pull racers that are far in the back?

Team cars carry spare parts and, indeed, spare bikes.

I think what you're asking about "pulling riders" is when they tuck in to get back on the bunch... I guess it carries over to the Olympics but, generally, they are helping riders who fall back for supplies or medical care. You're not allowed to draft behind your own team car but it's pretty accepted that other teams help each other out because  these guys (that fall back and bring bottles up) aren't really going to compete for the win and they are really doing the most work... also guys that have mechanical probs (even if they may win) get a helping hand to catch back on as well.

I just don't get it. Start with a bike. End with a bike. Are these bikes that shiatty they can't be ridden for 7 hours?
Carry a tire kit if you need to.
I just don't get it.

Nah, swapping to another bike or a quick wheel change is what they want. That takes seconds. A tire kit takes minutes.

So, do you consider American football, baseball, basketball, etc... sports with children's toys? If not, explain your redneck opinion.

I'll answer but I'm far from redneck status. Football and Basketball have time limits. It's down to the clock. Baseball needs more time limits and enforce them with penalties. As far a soccer goes... the field needs to be smaller with walls that you can bounce the ball off. Tell me I'm wrong.

But aren't sticks and balls still children's toys? Why would time limits not make them such?

All sports are children's toys. Even war. To get paid for it there needs to be money and a time limit.

So since cycling doesn't have a time limit then they don't get paid? Not sure I follow the logic. I was simply pointing out to the troll that a lot sports use children's toys since he diminished cycling by saying that it uses children's 'toys'. Personally, I wouldn't consider a $16,000 technological wonder a children's toy but ymmv.

Who cares that you can ride a bicycle. Most 6 year olds can do that. Your point?

Excellent point. How many 6 year olds are there in this race again?

234KM. 5 hours?

Is the cycling road race the only event where your team can use a car?

estimated about 7.5 hrs, a couple big climbs on the day and I'm sure that includes a healthy cushion for medal ceremonies.

As to the cars, There's probably some in the Triathlon and marathon running events, medical at least for the runners.

The TT will have car support.

I was mostly being snarky but wow, thanks for dropping the knowledge!

The peloton does seem to be out on a leisure cruise right now

They are. Honestly, the race is too long -145 miles is ridiculous. 120 max would produce a far more exciting race. They've been expirimenting with shorter, harder stages in the grand tours in the last few years and it's produced amazing racing. This slow-roll for a while before it gets hard is not good for spectating. I'd be down for an 80-100 mile race. That would put a lot of pressure on the favorites.

Yes, Quinn is crushing but Mr' Greenwagon has had a couple great days as well (at Wallonie).

I think Sepp was kind of out from the jump because he was expected to support Roglic through the tour but then when Rog dropped out and Sepp stayed to pick up a stage win, that kind of sealed the deal.

This is gonna be a weird race because there's no intermediate points or mountain points... Also, no trade teams so riders that usually work against each other are now a team (but only one can win) AND smaller teams are gonna have to work together so... lots of possibilities. I expect a pretty well composed peleton until the first climb and after then a selection on Fuji Sanroku but watch for the real attacks late on Mikuni pass.

120km to go 2nd

Frames are carbon fiber and very stiff. The frames can crack on rough roads. Normally the front fork will crack. High speed and rough roads don't mix.

Carbon fiber can crack when under stress.

Stress? You mean like the stress of a crash? Failures happen, but failures that happen during normal riding isn't very common. Sure, sometimes there are defects, but they are pretty rare. There's a term in the industry for people who claim that their frame broke during normal riding: JRA. Just Riding Along.

Road racing isn't really JRA

No, it isn't, but it's a very extremely rare occasion that a frame fails even under a WorldTour rider without a crash.

More often than not it's the mechanicals not the frame

Oh, got it. Got you mixed up with the frame breaking guy. My bad.

LeClerc since Hamilton spun Max out on the first lap.

Hey, Fernando Alonso is an avid cyclist. Also, I ran into Jenson Button while riding near Nice France. A lot of motor racers train on a bike.

I think that is what irks me about Ham's pit scooter

It's IndyCar, but earlier this year, Romain Grosjean posted a video on YouTube showing his sweet Colnago. A lot of F1, Indy, NASCAR, Moto GP, Supercross racers are huge into cycling. Anyone like redneck ChopperCharles above who disses cycling but likes motor sports, is a moron who doesn't understand the benefit that cycling lends to motorsports.
