Archery was fun to watch. USA lost.
Bicycle racing is like watching paint dry.

They better cut to other events and I don't mean soccer.

Well now that I'm disappointed, I think it would be fun to have a GT road race in the Olympics.

Lots of fans on side of the road.
234KM. 5 hours?

Is the cycling road race the only event where your team can use a car?

estimated about 7.5 hrs, a couple big climbs on the day and I'm sure that includes a healthy cushion for medal ceremonies.

As to the cars, There's probably some in the Triathlon and marathon running events, medical at least for the runners.

So there was and air gun competition.... only got to see the last shot.
Then they go back to bicycling with commercials every 5 minutes.

There has GOT to be other events today NBC.

The TT will have car support.

I can't believe that USA selected Craddock over Sepp Kuss. Also Quinn Simmons is totally on fire in Tour de Wallonie. Brandon McNulty has been hot and cold.

The peloton does seem to be out on a leisure cruise right now

They are. Honestly, the race is too long -145 miles is ridiculous. 120 max would produce a far more exciting race. They've been expirimenting with shorter, harder stages in the grand tours in the last few years and it's produced amazing racing. This slow-roll for a while before it gets hard is not good for spectating. I'd be down for an 80-100 mile race. That would put a lot of pressure on the favorites.

2021-07-23 10:53:21 PM
Yes, Quinn is crushing but Mr' Greenwagon has had a couple great days as well (at Wallonie).

I think Sepp was kind of out from the jump because he was expected to support Roglic through the tour but then when Rog dropped out and Sepp stayed to pick up a stage win, that kind of sealed the deal.

This is gonna be a weird race because there's no intermediate points or mountain points... Also, no trade teams so riders that usually work against each other are now a team (but only one can win) AND smaller teams are gonna have to work together so... lots of possibilities. I expect a pretty well composed peleton until the first climb and after then a selection on Fuji Sanroku but watch for the real attacks late on Mikuni pass.

GVA is doing a lot of early work. A sign that he's not looking to defend his Olympic championship. Belgium is really strong with Wout, but don't discount Remco. My darkhorse is Maximilian Schachmann.

Glad Kuss got his stage win, that was a pretty cool day. No way Pogačar goes for a win since he didn't really need to try at the end of the Tour does he? I mean he was just going up the hills alone there.

What's the point of the leaders attacking. They are going to get caught by the peloton at 1st hill climb. Crazy strategies.

+14 min no way they can keep up this pace

Also, why do they pull racers that are far in the back?

To provide mechanical support and supply hydration and food. Many races have feed zones where teams hand up stuff by the side of the road but in professional racing it's normal to have both.

Also, why do they pull racers that are far in the back?

Not sure what you mean here.

Hey I'm in a 7 hour race and I want to breathe in exhaust fumes. I think they should have pit stops to re-hydrate and to piss. Everybody should be given the same amount of time.

Team cars carry spare parts and, indeed, spare bikes.

I think what you're asking about "pulling riders" is when they tuck in to get back on the bunch... I guess it carries over to the Olympics but, generally, they are helping riders who fall back for supplies or medical care. You're not allowed to draft behind your own team car but it's pretty accepted that other teams help each other out because  these guys (that fall back and bring bottles up) aren't really going to compete for the win and they are really doing the most work... also guys that have mechanical probs (even if they may win) get a helping hand to catch back on as well.

Victory Dirtwolf here. They partnered with Southern Tier and Sixpoint to avoid being bought by AB-InBev a few years ago. I love that they did this because it means you can still get good independent beers over a wide area.

They carry bottles to hydrate constantly and they actually do have piss breaks where they all pull over and have a wee. They just usually do it when there aren't a lot of spectators and the cameras usually show other stuff but the announcers will tell you. "Oh, the racers are taking a leak, let's look at this castle for a moment..."

Oh, there is a time cut. I can't recall the percentage but you have to finish within a certan percentage of the winner to be classified for placing. 14 minutes seems unreasonable so I'd say that the announcer is talking out of his arse.

That's not until at least the half way point... I mean, I forget where but it's unlikely that people will start falling off the back until the very end and riders of all nations in the autobus will help each other beat the time cut.
