I did something very stupid and bought Satisfactory last Friday night.  I have not gotten more than 4 hours of sleep a night since.  That game is ridiculously addictive.  I've never been one to watch Youtube videos about other people playing games, either, but damned if I didn't find a YouTube channel that's really, really well done that I've been watching all week in the background at work.

Started a fresh build yesterday with everything I've learned over the last week, and it's going much smoother than my first build did.

Favorite game on PS2 was Gran Turismo 3.  For XBOX it was a tossup between Halo and anything from the Oddworld Series.

Oof. Yeah, say goodbye to everything else for a while.

I've been grinding Cyberpunk as it's mostly stable on my system. Either I set the difficulty too low, or quick-hacking breaks the game something fierce.

For the PS2 I think I'd have to go with Soul Reaver 2. XBOX would be... Psychonauts (But fark the meat circus)?

So I was playing Marvel vs Capcom 2 (Dreamcast, but I have the Naomi one as well).

Me: "Yeah there's 10 hour loops of it on Youtube."

I've been playing Half Life: Alyx at my buddy's house on his Valve Index.

Sweet Jesus, it is amazing. The first new Half Life content in 13 years, in VR...I had sky-high expectations and it still blows me away. The level of detail and interaction is just breath-taking. It's a game on a whole other level.

I can't wait to go back next week. I'm on Chapter 5 - Northern Star.

Favorite 6th Gen games?

PS2 - Gran Turismo 2, Tourist Trophy,

XBOX - Ninja Gaiden (which is FRIGGIN HARD), Tiger Woods 2004, which I will maintain remains the ultimate balance of realistic courses, but fun arcade-style, ridiculous low score golf rounds. I still play Tiger Woods 2004 to this day. Tiger Woods 2005 is really good too.

Today was the first day I learned about Factorio, while going down a youtube rabbit hole.  There is something to be said for the simplicity of that game, certainly.

Satisfactory is a lot more complicated, and adds an element of exploration and adventure.

I "re-discovered" Skyrim a few weeks ago. I bought it on PS3, but never really got into it. Then my PS3 died and I didn't feel like re-buying it on PS4 until recently.

Good lord, that game is DEEP! So much to explore and master! I finished a playthrough on PS4...and bought another copy for PC so I can try to mod it. Or at least that's what I thought I'd do. But the graphics on this 10-year-old game are so much better on midrange gaming PC + 4k monitor than my console + low-end TV, I just started another character!

Favorite PS2 games were Tony Hawk and Parasite Eve.

Thanks to the Farkers who pointed out SoulCalibur VI for ~$9 last week I stayed up til 3-4am 2 days in a row. Doesn't quite have the same soul (ugh) as the original but faithful enough that I greatly enjoy it. Decided I needed a break for something less addictive so that I could get some sleep so of course I ended up playing Teardown... and another 2 nights of no sleep. That game makes my rig blast heat with greater temp and more force than my actual heater vents in winter. Had fun with the missions for a while but ultimately found myself loving sandbox mode. Destroying everything feels... cathartic?

6th Gen: Soul Calibur, Wetrix+, Worms: Armageddon, GTA series (III, Vice City, & San Andreas. Altered gaming as we know it), SSX series, Twisted Metal Black, Guitar Hero (it was pretty fun back then), NBA/NFL Street, Need For Speed Underground, Splinter Cell, Silent Hill, Punisher, Katamari Damacy, Hitman..... so many.

Side note: I noticed that my PC has started randomly flashing/flickering black squares or symbols some times and I have no idea why. I first noticed it while playing Teardown but then it started appearing on my desktp and in folders as well. It happens pretty quickly but was able to get a screenshot of it on Teardown. I've restarted a few times and done an antivirus scan. It's not too terribly problematic and doens't happen all that often but it still perturbs me. Any Farker know what it is?

That's my guess.  It reminds me of the old ATI cards that came with shiat fans.  The game would start fine and look fine for about 1-3 minutes then it would start flickering and continue to get worse as time passed.  I opened the case and pointed a fan at it and like magic, it went away.

That's... not what I wanted to hear :( The computer is only a few months old from Newegg so maybe it's still under warranty or something. After endless months trying and failing to get a 3070 at MSRP I finally gave in and bought an expensive prebuilt from Newegg with an AORUS 3070 when it was on sale. Gave my old rig to my daughter and then sold hers on ebay and after that ended up not really costing much more than the price of the GPU out of pocket. And I was happy. Now, maybe not so much happy, if that is the problem.

Don't fret yet.  Pull the side off the case and circulate some air in and see if it makes a difference.  If it does, that's an easy fix.

One of my rigs has an AORUS 2070 and it smokes - but I have it in a Antec P110 with fans everywhere.

I've had this week off and have been trying to do outside things, mostly a lot of biking and hiking. Still I've had time to finish off Horizon Zero Dawn.  It was decent, good combat, particularly against the robots.  The story was good, but doesn't actually get too interesting until 3/4 through the game.  Also, making terminators is bad, but making man eating terminators is much worse.

Other than that I've been messing with a couple more games I picked up during the steam sale:

Defcon - A nuclear war simulator that I played the crap out of years ago.  The only winning move is to not play, but its fun trying to survive anyways.

Noita - a rogue like with some really nice pixel graphics particularly on the fire and explosions.  Good physics too.  It does have some issues.  Firstly, they never tell you exactly what the objective is, I had to look it up.  The difficulty level is probably too high as well, but there are a ton of mods to help that out.

Best 6th Gen game: Guitar Hero and Rock Band. Just so fun with a few beers and some friends around.

A lot of confusion between PS1 and PS2 here, I made the same mistake when thinking of stuff.
As much as I want to wax nostalgia on the DC, I worked at a weird giant McPlayplace type thing at a casino in high school that was a makeshift "child care facility", they got DC floor models 2 or 3 months ahead of street store date. That was kinda cool. I just don't have the time to type things out, but anything competitive, Soul Caliber, Tony Hawks, Gran Turismos, NFL Blitzes, PGA Golf, anything stoners could gather around and waste hours on basically. NHL games I remember lots of.

My cousin is trying to get my to jump in on Escape from Tarkov, but the 140$ entry price is a bit steep and apparently you need to get the good kit.

I had to buy a replacement fan for one of those and the replacement fan wound up working better than the original lol.

I'm sorry, I should have worded it better. It could just be an airflow problem as UberDave said. Does it happen after a long game session on a punishing high-end game? Put another way, if you left your PC off overnight, turned it on the next morning would it immediately start doing it? Would it do it if you had it running and idling but not doing anything that would tax the GPU?

I've heard good things about Open Hardware Monitor.

It was a "fun" packed week for me, so not a ton of gaming got done. I did pick up Akiba's Trip,  Blasphemous (which is a bit odd as I am really picky about Metrovania type games and Cris Tales (more speculating on that one than anything else). I also have Cotton Reboot! arriving Saturday, which is a bit bittersweet as I used to own 2 copies of it on the TurboDuo. I missed out on so much money for selling my PC-E/TG collection when I did.

But as far as sixth-gen faves:
Star Wars: Rogue Squadron II (dancing Stormtroopers!!!)
Tales of Symphonia
Halo (and Halo 2 can far right off ending when it did)
Onimusha series (1 & 3 were awesome, 2 was ehhhh)
Devil May Cry
MechAssault (never got to play the sequel though)
Shadow Hearts
Ring of Red
Mark of Kri
Power Stone
Project Justice
Bangai-O
Ikaruga
Capcom vs SNK: Millennium Fight
Marvel Vs Capcom (and MVC2)
Gunbird 2
Dead Or Alive:XBVB
Oni
Ace Combat 4, 5 & Zero

Honestly, I could probably add 100 more games to the list. 6th Gen had a ton of great games for it. A ton of shovelware too but that true of any generation.

Trials of Mana. The remake, not the original. Played the original, using a fan translation, years ago and the remake is a very nice upgrade (contrast with the Secret of Mana remake which had clunky mechanics and awful remixed music).

Played City of Heroes with friends last night. We are pushing through the Praetorian arcs via Ouroboros, checking out content that I never quite got through back when the game was live and that my friends never saw because they never played the game back in the day.

Favorite 6th gen games? I might have to cheat some.

Eternal Darkness

Persona 5 Strikers - the Phantom Thieves' whirlwind tour of Japan has now taken us to Osaka. Will this be the final 'Jail'? Knowing how Persona 4 and 5 went, I doubt it. This Musou-fied RPG has been stupid amounts of fun, even when I'm grinding through sections of a Jail to level up my crew (the MC is approaching level 55, I'm aiming for 60+ before I finish this thing). In between Jail runs I'm on Bloodborne making Chalice Dungeon runs to score better gems, then popping off to Mergo's Loft to farm Blood Echoes for better stats because FAAAAAAAAAARK the big DLC baddie. I know that finishing the DLC (and really the Dungeons) are really just side-quests, but just like my first playthrough it really feels done when I've explored all of the Dungeons (once each in the case of the root chalices) and beaten all of the bosses, even that [insert Cartman's line from his final attack on Saddam Hussein in the South Park movie] Orphan of Kos.

Side note: it's PS2, all the way. Specifically: We Love Katamari, Persona 3 FES, Persona 4, Burnout Revenge, Ace Combat Zero, Armored Core: Last Raven, Steel Lancer Arena International, and Def Jam: Fight for NY. I don't know why the last one raises eyebrows, though.

The first game that comes to mind is Burnout 3 considering I picked up another PS2 a few years ago specifically to play it again (same goes for the PSP, as I pretty much treat it as a Burnout Legends device.) GCN is probably for Double Dash. DC would be for Garou/3S/CvsSNK2 since we basically spent like 6 years doing nothing but playing one of the three just about every other day. That wasn't all on the DC but it did introduce them to us so I'll count it.

Wife and I spent the week trading off playing Shantae Half Genie Hero. She's moved on to Seven Sirens, in fact playing right now. Been fooling with an old Trinitron TV that was left in the basement from the previous owners. It's composite only so I soldered an RCA jack to the composite out pads on a Pi3 to fool with it, but for some reason lakka seems to have broken it's composite support at the moment, although LibreELEC works just fine, so I've been feeding it old anime. It looks okay doing 240p but my junk LCD EDTV seems to run circles around it with the same output from the Pi, which genuinely surprised me. It also needs a yoke adjustment and I don't know if I care enough to bother. It also appears to be RGB mod capable but I wouldn't have anything to use with it. I'll hold onto it for now, I guess.

Quickhacks out preform silenced snipers/revolvers for clearing areas that you can sneak into.  Enemy deckers can counter your qh ninja murder spree, so there is a counter to it. Is

In open combat I find them far less useful given the tempo of fighting and the cooldown/resource mechanic.

I saw the hacks. But decided to keep it simple and keep the PS2 running. We bought it as our wedding gift to each other 20 years ago this October. Its rather.. special to both of us. The only real issue with still using the PS2 on a flat screen connecting with RCA video/audio is color. PS2 colors without HDMI connection to flatscreen are real dark. Had to mess a bunch with the brightness and contrast to get it to look semi-decent.

Daughter bought us a 50" flat screen for our bedroom last christmas. Mrs. And I were rather flabigasted she did that. She doesn't really have much money, or a job, but found a damn good deal. Drove to a best buy an hour away to pick it up. We didn't really want it or need it. We just got a 60" for our living room not long before that. At first we were going to have her take it back or keep it herself. After a long talk with the missus about feeling that she spent way to much on us, but it was out of her heart to give it to us, we kept it. So now there is a 50" sitting at the end of our bed. Most of the time it sits dark. pic taken from me sitting on our bed.

Twins each got their own 50" flats for their room recently. Both of them found another amazing deal. Used their HS graduation money on themselves for it.

We have like 7 flat screens here now.  Which really most of the time they are dark. Especially now. There are so many other things to do with our lives in the spring/summer/fall now that 2 years ago we moved to an acre of land with lakefront.

/and im ranting while avoiding my telecommuting work day.

Playing: All the Mods 6 (Modded Minecraft. A huge number of mods, with customized recipes and a guidebook. Not a gated quest pack, but the recipes do gate behind modded ores, so you'll need to do some mining before you get to the good stuff.)

I went from the PS1 to the XBox because of one video I saw on the internet where people were playing with the physics in Halo: CE. I went out as soon as possible and managed to score the Halo Special Edition XBox with the translucent green case and controller. Which I still have. Best game was GTA San Andreas. Hands down.

Driedsponge: I did something very stupid and bought Satisfactory last Friday night.

I'm sorry to hear that. Your family will miss you.

You should look at recent Minecraft vids from Graystillplays on youtube. He explores a plethora of really insane and stupid mods for minecraft.

I'm all burned out on Mass Effect LE after grinding all the cheevos.

Got a good Stellaris Nemesis game going.

And just installed Wargame: European Escalation for the first time. (I've only played red dragon so far)

Put more time into Yakuza 0 and Shante this week. Working on the Cabaret Club Czar in the former and got all of the transformations now in the latter, so going to run around and gather collectables.

No D&D last week due to scheduling conflicts.

AgentKGB: Welcome to Power Stone wars!

One of the few fighting games I ever got into. Though the AI was kind of a joke once you knew what to do. I could do infinite combos with a lot of the characters. Probably why the stones got nerfed in the sequel.

I spent years doing the customized modpack route, tweaking and configuring etc. Now I just slap down whatever big kitchen sink pack seems the most stable and popular and play until my computer cries and the world corrupts, and then do it again with a different modpack.

I like the insane mods, but not enough to include them in a long-term play, since most of them are only fun for a little while or have game-breaking balance problems.

I usually go with a Direwolf20 pack (another YouTuber who does custom packs), the current Feed-The-Beast kitchen sink pack, or some other like Resonant Rise or All the Mods.

I have as long in a pack as it takes to build until the computer can't take it.

European Escalation is the best one imo. Most polished and stable.

This series reminds me of World in Conflict, wish that would come out with a sequel.

Also, in case anyone missed it like I did, the Olympics began yesterday and the athletes marched out to video game music played by an orchestra: https://www.nikkansports.com/olympic/tokyo2020/news/202107230000867.html
