If your day job is being a source of reliable information, please don't use the same persona for a spree of lying, especially in a medium where you're easily taken out of context.

You wouldn't want your librarian occasionally trolling you with bullshiat from behind their desk whenever the hell they feel like it.  "You should know they were bullshiatting you because it was so obvious," but really, you're literally asking them (following them / reading their feed) because you're trying to get smarter and more informed of bullshiat in the first place. It's literally their job not to mislead people with jokes and experiments.

/That said, I would love a librarian to bullshiat me occasionally, because the library would truly become my favorite place to go, if only for that.

Riling these people up to prove what we already knew only makes it more difficult.

Most cults usually aren't this big, or this stupid, or this deranged, or this violent... all at the same time.

He didn't do that, though.  Instead, he pretended to be part of a vast conspiracy to destroy Trump ballots, which included the mainstream media, the FBI, the CIA, the founders of the United States, and Buddha.

And way too many people ate up every word.

All the folks on here saying "you're not helping" and such need to consider this:  Until it is proven, without a doubt, that there is no bottom to the stupidity of these people, way too much time, energy, and political capital will be wasted trying to reason with them.  I applaud Mr. Schwarz for showing us just how fruitless those efforts would be.

You cannot move these people with facts.  If they will believe in any lie, no matter how ridiculous, that re-enforces their idiot conspiracies, then there is no way to bring them to the truth of anything. Add to that a right-wing machine that requires these people to remain uninformed and misinformed, the chances of them ever accepting facts contrary to their chosen beliefs is about as close to 0% as is possible.

The only thing that moves people like this, and it's not 100% effective, is when they personally are negatively impacted by the lies they cling to.

He did the opposite. He pretended he helped destroy Trump ballots. And he did it so over-the-top and unbelievably that only "conservatives" would not realize it was sarcasm. Of course, they could, they simply choose not to as they choose everything they pretend to believe based on convenience from moment to moment, in how well it aligns with what they want you to believe is true.

Maybe he's not helping, but these are the sorts of people that could find something on the back of a cereal box that they'd add to their manifesto. I'm not catering what I say to not irritate the people too stupid and crazy to appease. Fark them, let them be angry.

I about fell of my chair when he tagged in OnlyFansSupport. LOL

Anyways, it's been fairly well documented that, for some weird god damn reason, conservatives simply cannot grasp satire.

Which kinda makes sense when you realize they won't support any liberal policy until 'it' happens to them. Like, they physically can't bring themselves to imagine a scenario where they could get their faces eaten.

The bizarreness of it all is only matched by just how sad it is.

To some extent, yes. On the other hand, however, it's not socially healthy to restrict the bounds of public speech to what's acceptable in the workplace or to what's acceptable for public figures to say in an official capacity.

POTUS shouldn't use semi-personal communications channels to joke about nuking other countries, but lower-level nobodies shouldn't be expected to give up their human right to freedom of expression, either.

There is a line here, but I don't feel this guy crossed it, at least in part because anyone dumb enough to fall for his satire shouldn't be online without adult supervision.

I suppose this would be a bad time to admit to stealing 40,000 Trump ballots from Georgia and Arizona that I buried at a secret location in Death Valley that can be found by solving this pair of riddles:

The Gila monster knows the way but who knows him. Three founders walk together across a ridge, but why?

Where trees make three under and eagles gaze, walk north to the old man's rock. There are noon the arrow's shadow marks the truth.

odinsposse: Is "people in cults will believe truly unbelievable things if it supports the cult" really news?

I think "this is a hole with no bottom" is the news, and I think it's news to a lot of people: the idea that there is no conspiracy theory so deranged that a Trumper won't take it straight and swallow it whole.

If I posted the video from Season 1 of Breaking Bad where they stole the methylamine from the train and said that it was two Democrat operatives stealing ballots from a counting center, they'd happily believe me. There would then be no way to demonstrate to them that I had just shown them thirty seconds from a prime-time basic cable show that millions of people have watched.

That's the lede here, that far more people than we realize are susceptible to these crippling failures in critical thinking. There's still too much of this "basic faith in human decency" thing I keep hearing so much about floating around, that people keep forgetting how terrible others can be. I myself know that I spent way too damn long waiting for Trumpers to hit the bottom. I'm fully convinced they never will.

There's a specific reason why they struggle with satire - they don't actually care what's true in general, the only actual belief they have is that the whole universe was created for them and they're supposed to be in charge of it all on behalf of their "god". And thus any cruelty they wish to inflict on people they can't empathize with is just and good, and also approved by their "god". When you're of the belief that you're fighting a force of pure evil on behalf of a force of pure good it's easy to do whatever horrible thing you want to do, and that you can't really commit a sin against demonic forces - so no sin is off the table in that fight.

I still had some hope in the basic decency of my fellow Americans until a shiatload of them voted for the orange asshole in 2016. Any small vestige of that hope struggling to reemerge was then shot, dismembered, and run through a wood chipper by the absolute shiattiness of tens of millions of people in response to the pandemic.
