(Popular Mechanics)   Can Science cure death? Maybe. But since it can't even convince people to get vaccinated against a deadly disease, it might have to cure stupid first   (popularmechanics.com) divider line

drugs and sex toys were created back in the stone age.   It's not science's fault lawmakers make them hard to lay around in an orgy pit and devote more time to 14 days a week.

Why would anyone want to cure death?  Death is the ultimate cure.

This is the orange orangutan's fault. He wont shut up and he keeps trying to take credit for Operation Warp Speed and the development of the vaccine. This is surely causing the vaccine hesitancy among the wider population.

The only part of the plan you can actually count on.

If science cured death and humans could start up again like computers there would be a LOT of VERY angry religious people raging at the notion that there isn't an afterlife but we're a glorified computer that can run malware like religion and so forth.

Plus we'd have to pension off Binky and Albert, and what would become of the Death of Rats?

I mean, eventually.

Aging isn't a singular, monolithic process, though.  There's a few obvious built-in "planned obsolescence" bits of biochemistry that we're probably only a century at worst from figuring out how to just "switch off", but the problem with that is that said planned obsolescence is a feature of the sexual reproduction survival mechanism, and either predates it or only slightly post-dates it.

That means that every single biological feature that humans possess developed after the point in our evolutionary family tree where we were sponges and only nominally even multicellular has not evolved with perpetuity beyond typical lifespans as an evolutionary filter.

Essentially, a human being is a machine with something like a billion component mechanisms that haven't been verified to actually work consistently over periods longer than fifty years or so in the context of even the normal biology we already have, much less the artificial animal we're discussing replacing humanity with that has the telomeres flipped off and replaced with some other anti-cancer mechanism or whatever.

This cult (and make no mistake, the anti-death people are a religion, it has no more to do with science and no more grounding in science than the people who think Jesus is going to return to take the righteous to heaven at a specific date in the near future derived by numerology) is vastly understating what the problem even is to make its pitch to the rubes like Musk for their money.  Firstly, you can't definitively set a timeline on this line of technology at all because you have to completely fabricate all of the factors involved in making the calculation, and secondly you can very definitively say that even just the parts of the problem we already know about will not be fully resolved within the remaining lifespan of someone who is currently an adult.

Curing stupidity is beyond the reach of science.

Science cures physical death.

Turns out the one true religion was all of them. Blood for the blood god! Skulls for the skull throne! Tibias for the tibia ottoman!

Oh don't you worry. This is us humans you're talking about. You'll never get the cure for aging, only the very wealthy will. everybody else will just go screaming into the void. Oh yeah, and it will probably be used to further exacerbate the difference in wealth between the rich and the rest of us. That's just how we humans do things.

And yet the MAGAs refuse to get vaccinated with donnie's vaccine. I'd call it cognitive dissonance, but I have my doubts about the cognitive part.

I was referring to the hesitancy of minorities to get vaccines.https://www.aarp.org/health/conditions-treatments/info-2021/minority-vaccination-rates.html

wage, sin, yeah ok.

Not really. If there's a reliable cure for aging, and only half of the population chooses to receive it, then half of the population ages and half doesn't. It's not contagious.

You would also have to do something about the natural desire to reproduce and raise children.  You think overpopulation is a problem now? And it is. Imagine an earth where a significant % of the population just doesn't die.

That's where you almost have an evolutionary branch and we basically become two separate species.
