The head of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Committee admitted this week that he has not ruled out cancellation, even at this late stage.

That would be a shiat show.

Probably a good idea, though.

Yeah that's stupid. It's a good thing there was no social media or cell phone cameras back in the late 70's early 80's when I was a kid. The way me and my friends used to talk to each other...

Yeah, this really needs to stop being left out of the headlines, which make it seem like he made the jokes this week.

Jeez, you guys, it was 23 long years ago.  23 years ago, most people thought the Holocaust was absolutely hilarious.  People are so uptight nowadays about the systematic genocide of 6 million people.  Back when I was a kid, "Germany's Funniest Holocaust Videos" was on every Sunday night.

I blame woke libs and your cancel culture.

Not if they want to pay $1 billion to NBC in refunds for not having an Olympics. Cancellation isn't happening at this point.

We give killers the chance to atone for past mistakes when they get caught.  We don't say "The Golden State killer quit killing 40 years ago.  Clearly, he's atoned."

Japan still hasn't been forgiven for what they did to Chinese women at the same time. WWII is massive black mark on their history and they still live with the shame of it 80 years later. Joking about what Germany was doing at the same time was never going to stand and how the organizers didn't know about it until now should be an embarrassment to them.

Mr Mori was quoted as saying women talked too much and that meetings with many female board directors would "take a lot of time"

My experience is that any meeting that has three or more people is one where someone talks too much and takes a lot of time.  Most often, it is a dude on the spectrum who just won't read the room and just shut up.

To be honest, though, Holocaust jokes were a bit funnier when we thought the Nazis were gone.

Agreed.  I admit to telling the classic guard tower joke.  It works because it subverts the expectations of the listener.  I could face consequences for that one day.  If I did, I would apologize.  I would not say "It was a long time ago.  Shut up!"

FTA:  Earlier this week, a composer quit the team creating the ceremony after it emerged he had bullied classmates with disabilities at school

Well, that's one way to describe what he did.  Another way would be to say that he forced a disabled boy to masturbate in front of others and to eat his own feces.

If any organization has an extra billion to throw around, it's the Olympics.

Considering that money is essentially funding much of the IOC's work, no they probably don't have that to throw around.

/And that number is just my estimate of what NBC pays per Olympics
//And it's also ignoring what other networks around the world pay to broadcast the Games

Yeah, also not a big fan of lumping everything into "bullying". Pretty big difference between "occasionally said some mean words" and "forced someone to eat feces".

At least 11 million. If it's not OK for Stormfront to deny victims because they were Jewish, it's not OK for you to deny their existence because they were not.

So, before I sent that I tried to get the exact number and wiki is arguing 6 and I'm not sure why, but maybe I misread it. I agree with you and I thought it was more, but I just went with what I looked up on my phone.

Yeah, I can get that. Some people have been pushing the 6 million number so hard for years that it's becoming the official count for a lot of people. Which is a little offensive to the other millions of victims. Didn't mean to be so aggressive about it, it's just a touchy subject for my family.

Last I looked at the numbers (and they were pretty constant for 50 years), he's denying the victims because they *weren't* Jewish.  6 million Jews, 5 million others (Roma, extra Poles, extra Slavs, handicapped, insufficiently connected LGBT+ non-party members (probably turned down such a member), slaves used in factories [Krupt arms got a slap on the wrist and their crematoria never stopped burning expended slaves, similarly VvBraum was put in charge of the US's most important weapons after running factories with similar crematoria "I'm only responsible for the rockets going up"]).

The 11 million number isn't even that accurate, It was basically picked by Simon Wiesenthal as large enough to be plausible, but still smaller than the Jewish tally. The true number depends on tricky questions like why are only 1.3 million out of 7 million soviet civillian deaths recognized as victims? But at least the 11 million is easier to get people to accept, and recognizes the other victims, unlike the 6 million number.

Wrong. If the killer was caught today he would face sentencing appropriate at the time of the crime.

My point is that should we discard people's entire lives over a mistake they made decades ago? My comparison to killers was simply to highlight that there are literally killers from that era that have served their time working jobs, yet this man was fired today, unlike the killers, for making a mere joke in that same era.
