The shift in the talking point vibe is becoming very clear.

These Republican emporers are realising they're naked and the shrinkage factor is high. They're so used to jumping on populist bandwagons they didn't even notice this one was heading right off the rails until they realised that they'd, errr, snoozed and lost? Dammit that last mixed metaphor's a doozy.

Anyway, sucks to be them. As more folks get vaccinated and see the unvaxxed idiots are the ones sustaining the virus it's going to be clear that electing Republicans was the first mistake here.

Those Republicans can run but they can't hide.

/Yes! Got it back there at the end

2021-07-22 5:53:09 AM
Hey it is another "Republican makes cynical, tardy and half-hearted plea for his idiots to get vaccinated" thread.

My question is who sent the new "actually, start saying vaccines are good" talking point?

Because we went from "they can take our lives, but they can never take our freedom!" To "please vax, kthxbai" fairly simultaneously.

Well yeah, we're a little over a year out from the next election and they are quite literally decimating their base.

There's no better indication of the talking points Republicans receive from their masters.

The aftermath of that election is going to be a shiatshow. When they lose a lot of seats because a significant portion of the people that would have voted for them are dead from Covid, they will start screaming about how the election is not legitimate because the Democrats used Covid to decimate their voting base. You are going to have a repeat of 1/6 at a lot of state houses.

Some smart farmer crunched the numbers of deaths per county and looked a counties where that number of deaths could potentially swing an election and it was exactly one county in Florida that barely went blue will likely go back red. So. No. Not happening.

I doubt they thought about the future that much... This feels like Fox got threatened with a lawsuit and the rest of them figured they were next.

70% of the US has been vaccinated -- maybe 75% of voters.

It's dawned on these dips*** that that is becoming a supermajority -- the closest thing to "unity" the US has seem in decades.

Continuing to be obstinate contrarians will eventually backfire as the natural human tendency towards resentment of those dragging the pandemic out will begin to settle in.

Probably someone who took a serious look at the current numbers and saw that if the Reps kept on the current path they'd murder a significant portion of their voting base all over the country and open the way for dems to take over a whole bunch of states.

2021-07-22 8:14:00 AM
If all of these intransigent Republicans are suddenly mentioning vaccines in a context other than it being devil semen that can only mean that it's already too late and we are about to witness an iteration of the COVID mess that will make last year look like a walk-through. When MTG says to get the vaccine, know that you're already dead.

"Maybe cheering my own supporters into the arms of Death, O Death, won't you spare me til another year, and cheering their perspicacity, maybe has a downside on reducing the voter pool for us. Plus, our sponsors seem to be genuinely upset that they're backing a death cult, which means less campaign dollars, so guess we'd better get head at least towards the train before it leaves the station entirely."

Am I overreacting or is disease sweeping over the land, red tide, rotten fish washing up on the coast and buildings crumbling into rubble all not very similar to Biblical plagues I was taught about in Sunday School?

And invasive snakes are taking over the Everglades, orange crop failures seem to be a regular thing, hurricanes, etc...If I were governor I'd be reading Exodus and marking my door with lamb's blood instead of making fun of a respected doctor's throwing arm.

America isn't in the Bible. You are referencing stories written in an entirely different part of the world, for an audience that is far-removed from you culturally and chronologically. Don't waste a second on worry.

Not getting a kick.....

I am leaving for this shaithole in exactly 12 hours, overnight drive from Virginia, to see my parents and sister who I have not seen in 2 years and are no spring chickens. Everyone fully vaccinated so not super concerned as we will mostly be just hanging at the house.

But the 2 night stay in St Augustine may get the axe.

Just to pile on gently...all of this has happened before, and all of this will happen again. Pestilence, famine, wars, and stupid assholes are neither new nor unique to us. The vague conditions loosely described in Revelations (possibly by an author on a black mold trip) could be matched to dozens of different times and places throughout history. Life on Earth is more chaos than order; always has been.

COVID (both in original and new Delta flavors) is now decimating the unvaccinated population AKA Republicans. There's a full-scale "oh crap, our voters are overwhelmingly dying off" crisis at hand.

I'm sure people felt the same way during and after WW1.  Huge war with scale of industrial mechanized death that had never been seen before, unmoving lines, Spanish Flu start rolling around and then not but 10 years later the depression and the dust bowl.  Sure there was other crap going around I'm not even aware of.

But we are farking over the planet. Nothing magical about that, just the cold reality of the cosmos.

Not really. The left is much better at hiding their covid numbers. Red counties are being much more transparent about what is happening, what with liberals taking vacations to places like Branson to help spread covid to Trump supporters.
