Hated his guts for decades in the UF/FSU rivalry. But I wish him peace and a painless death. You were a true ball coach.

He's 91 (I had to look that up, article writer:  hint, hint).  Apparently, his terminal medical diagnosis is old age.

I'm with you there, with the added part about how he tried to have his junior college wins added to his total to top Joe Paterno (pre-scandal) for the all-time wins record, then initially indicated that he wanted to celebrate having it handed to him, temporarily as it turned out, but couldn't under the circumstances.  And also, the whole 'Criminoles' nickname.  I lived in the area, and the joke was he recruited from the penitentiary up the road from FSU.  And I'm tempted to say that Jerry Reed based his character in The Waterboy off of Bowden, At least, that's what it felt like.

But I'm human, and I'll pray for him and his family.

As a hurricane coach Bowden gave me some of my fondest football memories. God Bless.

I hated the Seminoles, but always enjoyed Coach Bowden, even when his teams thrashed my beloved (*team name goes here*).

When UF got real good under Spurrier, that three way dance between "The U", FSU and UF was the talk of the state.

Everybody remembers the beat down The U gave UF, on and off the field at the Sugar Bowl.

I don't think we will ever see that again. The state of Florida has enough talent to support three top ten programs, but there is too much drain to programs outside of the state...not to mention the USF/UCF/FAU programs.  Bowden, Jimmy Johnson, and Spurrier were huge personalities and coaches.

"Old age...it's the only disease that you don't look forward to being cured of." -- Citizen Kane

Condolences to his family.

/Though my stepgrandfather is still kicking at 93 and looking forward a few more years
