It was, of course, considered a fine law by these same people when Michigan had Republican Governors. I didn't really care for it, honestly.

The hypocrisy is just part of the background hum of Gerrymandered Michigan at this point. Maybe the new redistricting board will fix that. Can't be worse.

Yes, I think the Michigan Legislature Kills Law is a suitable name for it.

For thirty years, Republicans have pushed libertarian supply side economics and religious intolerance. Half of the country can't be bothered to wear a freaking mask to protect others. Half the country thinks that opinions can outweigh science. Half of the country thinks Jesus preached that "the poors are lazy."

By and large, it just seems that Americans are just plain bad people. I used to excuse that by saying that yes, but we're always striving to become the idealized versions of ourselves, but then they started legislating rules that omit our history of bad behavior. That's going to destroy everything.

Remember that Republicans have also consistently represented a minority of Americans. The only time they've won the popular vote in almost three decades was 2004, and that required a horrific disaster that gave the Republican President a 90+% approval rating he could coast down from AND questionable shenanigans in Ohio. Currently, Republicans in the Senate represent almost 42 million fewer people than the Democrats, and Republicans have to gerrymander the Hell out of their states to get anywhere close to a majority in the House.

Americans are fine. It's the American system of government that's shiatty, because it was built to give disproportionate power to wealthy white shiatheads.

It should be known that the f#ckers gathering signatures for the petition were openly LYING to people about what it was for. I had three different petitioners tell me three different lies to get me to sign it.

The GOP can all just die of Delta for all I care.

"...idea that we need the governor to do our job for us once into the outbreak of a new virus...is disturbing in its distrust of the citizens of this state."

You wanna hear something disturbing? I was at a pub earlier, vaccinated and still wearing a mask (which I took off when most everyone left), when a familiar face walked in. It was an acquaintance I hadn't seen in a few years. We chatted and he mentioned he caught Covid in November and "it wasn't that bad." He even went to work with it. When I asked how he did that, he stated that he wore a mask and didn't tell anyone about his positive test.  He also informed me that every death in every hospital has been listed as Covid because the hospitals get $12k for each one. And that Covid death rate is .5%. Also the only people who die are old, obese or have diabetes. And only 1% of kids contract it.
When I told him none of that was true, he told me he heard it on the news from a governor. I asked which governor because some are lying thru their teeth. Then I mention Florida not even giving numbers to the CDC anymore. His reply was "Good." I responded with "so you don't mind half a million people dying?"  He said that his statement had nothing to do with death. But, I said, "you don't want anymore scientific data?" He told me that a year and a half was enough.
I shook my head and left.

Republican legislature did the same thing in Pennsylvania. They can't stand having a Democratic governor who sets policies based on expert advice that benefit human beings over money during a public health emergency.

nytmare: Republican legislature did the same thing in Pennsylvania. They can't stand having a Democratic governor who sets policies

Fixed that for you. Look at Wisconsin; as soon as a Democrat won the governors' seat, the Republicans went full speed ahead on neutering the power of the office. And look at the GQP's behavior under Democratic Presidents over the last few decades. Undermine, obstruct, destroy; it's all they do.

Fascists believe that only they have the right to rule, that anyone else is illegitimate just by their very nature. They don't believe in democracy, because democracy frequently means that the people choose non-fascists. And fascists will burn their own damn nations to the ground if it means they get to destroy the competition and rule over the ashes.

His excuse for working while infected was that he wore a mask, has his own office, and was over most of his symptoms. Yet his two weeks of quarantine wasn't done with.

It's so frustrating and saddening the amount of people I just can't talk to anymore. I'm losing what little faith I had left in humanity.

This is a legislature repealing a law.

Next year will be interesting in MI especially if Whitmer runs again for Governor.

So far the list of Republican challengers are divided between Trump loyalist and those lying about being Trump loyalist to get votes.

To a point this is a valid argument. It comes up all the time, how much violence can the president foment without invoking the war powers act through congress? The problem here is that it was done with spite malice and stupidity and no rational debate or basis.

Michigan is like a lot of states...the smart people live in the cities while the rural areas of the state is where the dumbfarks live, and there are a LOT of them! My county is deep, deep Republican red and if you look at any of the local group pages, they are loaded with Trumpers, conspiracy nuts and people who believe anything they read on The Federalist, hear on right wing talk radio or see on Fox News. The damage right wing media has done to this country is incalculable and I am afraid the wounds are fatal.

Michigan also has a very well funded GOP propaganda machine, fortified by DeVos and out of state money. That was how the whole Capitol siege went down. (Many out of state plates were seen in the lines of traffic that choked up the Capitol in the incident before the actual siege). The yokels in the boodocks buy up every word of it and refuse to listen to any other viewpoint.

It's sad because it's really a nice place and has been my home for all but ten years of my life, but I am looking to escape in the not too distant future. shiat like this just reinforces the notion that I need to get someplace where the Republican influence is not such a factor. I am really getting to the point where I absolutely despise Republicans.
