Said a few weeks ago I had an uncle and aunt who went to Branson, MO for a trip. They didn't go last year because of Covid and both are vaccinated, so they figured it'd be fine. Had a good time for a couple days and then aunt got an ulcer and needed to see a doc. Uncle called the hospital in Branson and was basically told "Unless she's about to die and you can't make it back home, do not bring her here. Covid has the hospital overrun and even waiting for a doctor could expose you." While being vaxxed can reduce the severity, neither are in the best of shape and that's a big risk anyway.

Uncle made the 10+ hour drive back to Austin to get her to a hospital that doesn't sound like the first episode of The Walking Dead.

It really pisses me off that the healthcare workers are unnecessarily getting shiat on, after all they've already been through.

I feel bad for any kids that get it.

But I got my vaccine so I'm not the person passing it to kids.

That out of the way, all I have to say is HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA.

Everything's going to be okay because top Republicans are now telling them to get vaccinated. In no way can these belated, cynical warnings fail.

Plague rats be plague ratting.  Any adult who wants / can handle a vaccine can get one.  There are no excuses.

Yeah but as has been frequently observed, it also has cascading affects onto others. Hospital capacity not available for other needed procedures, preventive care delayed, EMS used for COVID instead of other emergencies. And infecting kids, immune compromised, or vaccinated people (at a low rate but it happens).

Yes but for a while people would all honk their horns at 7pm and some hospitals put up signs (instead of extra pay) about heroically essential the workers are.

Are you not satisfied?

Sing along with me:

Well here we are again
It's always such a pleasure
Remember when you tried to kill me twice?
Oh how we laughed and laughed
Except I wasn't laughing
Under the circumstances
I've been shockingly nice!!!!

You want your freedom? Take it
That's what I'm counting on

I used to want you dead
But now I only want you gone
She was a lot like you
Maybe not quite as heavy
Now little Caroline is in here too
One day they woke me up
So I could live forever
It's such a shame the same
Will never happen to you
You've got your short sad life left
That's what I'm counting on
I'll let you get right to it

Now I only want you gone
Goodbye my only friend
Oh, did you think I meant you?
That would be funny
if it weren't so sad
Well you have been replaced
I don't need anyone now
When I delete you maybe
[REDACTED]
Go make some new disaster
That's what I'm counting on
You're someone else's problem
Now I only want you gone

Now I only want you gone
Now I only want you gone

They have had plenty of vaccines in those counties for months. Those idiots chose to not protect themselves. Zero sympathy for them. I feel bad for the very young and those of poor health though that are still at risk and now don't have access to doctors.

They're still waving Confederate flags around because their daddy and their granddaddy and their great-granddaddy did, so I'm sure they'll get right on that.

Unfortunately it isn't a very reliable killer of the unvaccinated. Too many of them survive for there to be any real fear for these idiots. The article from a few days ago had that the ones least concerned about delta are the unvaccinated. We would need an epsilon variant that spreads 10x as rapidly and has a 75% fatality rate across all ages for most of these clowns to take it seriously. I'm not going to wish for such a variant until everyone down to newborns can be vaccinated.

8% vaccinated.

That's probably a good benchmark for how well a vaccine works when you're surrounded by plague rats.

These folks should get medals, they're like SCUBA divers live testing a shark proof suit surrounded by chum.

From the article:
"The study found that these gasoline superusers typically use more than 1,000 gallons of gas annually, drive larger vehicles, and drive three times as many miles as the average driver."
I doubt I use much over 100 gallons of gas a year.
And in 2020, I think I went about 6 months without filling up at all. But I guess that's an exception...

The Reverend Sam Hill: "Don't dead open outside"?

This is not bad, but admittedly ambiguous, life coach content.  It's like a koan, I get some of it but the whole thing is really confusing once combined.

I've never "dead open outsided" nor "dead opened outside" which is more clear but still very odd.  So I'm not sure how to read it.  "Don't dead" is maybe the best takeaway here, not like Chinese takeaway which is decidedly Americanised and tasty but not great, but just good takeaway in general.  Fitting takeaway, as in fitting inna mah facehole.  "Open outside" is clearly where you should do things like unwrap the tuna you brought to work for lunch, you absolute monster.  And the door helpfully provides direction as to where outside is, and what to do when there, namely open.

"Fake news" - Republicans

"OMG this thing I thought was fake happened TO ME?! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE I MUST WARN THE OTHERS" - Republican who found out

"Haha, get a load of Mr. Fake News here, boo hoo hoo, is it really THAT bad?! You're a pussy cuck" - the others

"OMG this thing I thought was fake happened TO ME?! THIS IS AN OUTRAGE I MUST WARN THE OTHERS" - one of the laughing others. No so funny now!

A lot of minds will be changed.
You could almost say, the finding out is contagious now.

This. One of the ERs I worked was a small, critical access hospital. We are dependent on shipping critical cases out to larger hospitals for treatment as we simply don't have the facilities to treat them there. I'm in central Illinois and at the height of all this last year I was sometimes calling as far north as Chicago and as far south as southern Illinois trying to find a bed for patients who were entirely treatable but were going to die if I didn't get them out of my ER in time. It was very, very scary.
