I was trying to decide whether or not to share a story when I saw your comment. Two weeks ago I had a patient in the hospital that was disabled and visually impaired receiving Medicare and benefits of some variety. I didn't ask specifics. Because of health issues, I asked the tech to allow me to take the tray in when it arrived because I needed to check blood sugar. As I was walking in, the dude looks at the tray and says where's my dessert? I asked him how he could see the tray 10 feet away if he's legally blind? And he said,  "it comes and goes."

Yup, it's insanely difficult to get it for real issues.  It's really shiatty seeing people do shiat like this.

As for people shiatting on VA disability, fark you.  I had to fight for 60% disability and I'm all sorts of farked up in the head.  The military is great at breaking people mentally, maybe don't shiat too much on us vets that come out with screws loose.

These people make me sick.  My dad just went to the VA two days ago, he has legitimate illnesses.  He lives in California but is on business in Wisconsin, he had to go in and he said they were super nice, it was on a base, not sure which one.

I did this picture back when I was 21 years old and the version of photoshop I was using only had one undo.

What an idiot.  The correct response would be, "I can still see shapes and colors and I only see one plate shape."  Without corrective lenses, my focus range is 0.5-1.5 inches from my nose.  I have a friend who really is legally blind and he's only slightly worse than me without glasses.  But he's got other ocular issues that stack to make his sight uncorrectable while I can wear contacts or Farnsworth glasses.  But, even without correction, I can see furniture and not run into it.  I can see the popcorn maker and can opener on the counter in the kitchen because I recognize their shapes, colors, and location on the counter.  I can extrapolate what they are from context without seeing the fine detail.

But it doesn't come and go.

A guy got a job as a customer service rep at this place I worked at.  Went through all the training no problem.  As soon as he passed 90 days probation, he said he was diabetic and started missing work.  Then, he said he had to go on disability because he was blind.  Big fight but he won.  Wife came by to pick up his stuff.  Guess who drove her?
Supposedly part of the settlement was the company can't bad mouth him to the next place he scams.  At least that's what the legs in CS said.  Tight Little Bunny Butt didn't collaborate.

Legally blind = 20/200 vision

So, you're seeing something. Light and dark. Fuzzy shapes. You can make out the top letters on the eye chart. So, "legally blind" isn't just blackness. I don't want you driving, but I'm not sure if that 20/200 is after corrective lenses or before.

I can't make out the E without corrective lenses but I can still be corrected to 20/15.  My last few optometrists have used projectors.  "I can see there's a bright spot on the wall."  "Oh, wow."

Yeah, I know a guy who has lost all of his peripheral vision. Only has central vision. This means that he can't drive (go ahead, try driving safely with what amounts to tunnel vision), can't walk on roofs anymore because he can't see edges unless he's looking right at them,so there goes 2 of his higher paying jobs. 100% blindness disability even with pretty clear central vision. This happens.

You are terrifyingly judgmental and ignorant for someone who works in healthcare.

Because many of the honest ones also are the ones that are feeling like they aren't worth anything (even though they are still worth A TON in terms of teaching and example to those around them, as well as good company), so they do give up and too many of them end themselves because the process has made them feel like such a burden that their self-worth falls unrealistically low.

The dishonest ones don't care.

It's a very poor filter for life, keeping the dishonest alive while pushing the honest out of life.

Actually. Having had long arguments / discussions about this very topic with an actual died in wool Republican.
It's not that sinister. They think life is hard and they understand that that's unfortunate but they also understand that it's absolutely necessary to stop fraud even if it has collateral damage of killing the Innocence.
They actually just shrug it off as it's your job to know what you have to do and it's your job to persist.
To the very extent of saying it doesn't matter if you're uneducated it's your job to go to the library and educate yourself if your school refuses to educate you or the people in the community refuse to fund the school the the hard unfortunate facts are it's your job to go to the library and educate yourself beyond what others are willing to do for you for free.
And yes that's all very Noble but it ignores what you just laid out.
When I find interesting about that is get accomplices the opposite of what they wish and they sort of understand that but they think there's no other choice they feel that their hands are tied.
And that is  they're constant refrain it is the dishonest person that is forcing them to do this.
And honest people just need to understand and be steadfast and read and understand what needs to be done and continue doing it.
I'm like okay.
But.
Meanwhile there's plenty of people who aren't getting assistance who deserve it.
And this fact always gets a shrug or a deer in the headlights look or a it's up to you to know the situation.
And this is why The advocate horrible policies and everyone else just signs off on it because the vast majority of us love to hurt the undeserving even if it means a little collateral damage.

Which I am left feeling as though honest people are the most despicable people because they will hurt people they claim to love simply for a principle of the matter God forbid you give a crumb to a scumbag we have to try even if it hurts to deserve

Okay?
