Too little and far, far too late.

Still not getting me to play FO76, especially if you need a paid membership to get that access.  I'll wait for FO5, thanks.

Not mods.

Modifications to preset settings in a cloistered world where what you do does not pass back to the live game.

You can clone your public server character, but after that that the save files are separate.

My friend got me a game on Steam, first one I've played in a while: Dyson Sphere Project. Dirt simple game, but it just keeps you engaged. Still in early access, but I think it's entertaining.

I did some playing around in the PTS last night, and I'm not sure how much I will use if either mode when it moves to production.  Dealing with multiple variants of my characters would be too difficult.

I sort of liked FO76 but was too empty of NPCs at launch.  I like playing with some of friends, but they are always hard core about min/max so just push to end game.  I prefer to wander around the sandbox.  So this may actually interest me.  May take a look again.

Now just need a modern GPU.  One day....

That looks kinda cool.  Like if you took bits of Sim City, Factorio, No Man's Sky, and Elite (the original) and smooshed them together.  Could be promising.

This "mod" came out a few years ago. It's called "Fallout 4".

Good luck finding one.  I got an RX580 8GB last summer as a stopgap after my R9 290X died.  Paid about $250.  Similar cards now going for like $700.  It's lunacy, and only because virtually nothing else is available.  Still, mine gets the job done for 1080P/60 gaming -- 1440p if the game is well optimized (eg. Witcher 3).

I'd rather play the Fallout pnp I've put together but getting adults on the same play schedule is really tough.

Really its for people that like optimization. I mean, you just have to tinker that little bit more to try and get that bit more efficiency. I turned it off and walked away, it was eating too much time.

It's the game "Satisfactory" on a planetary scale and it is awesome.

What system?  I used Savage Worlds for my campaign a few years ago and other than a few hiccups it worked well.

It's a D&D inspired d20 system, but it's a bit of its own thing.  Some tweaks needed to be made to mechanics to shift D&D's traits into SPECIAL stats and generate Skills on a d20 roll instead of d100.  Short of actually playing, I've gotten to futz with it to make a few characters and test out how some of the math works.

Having played every Fallout game including Tactics and Brotherhood of Steel, I pre-ordered FO76 with glee. I think I played for a total of 3 hours and uninstalled it. Two words can describe the experience: "sucks" and "ass"

Fallout 1 and 2 were great. Fallout 3 was really good, especially since I live in DC so I recognized the locations. New Vegas was great, and the Tale of Two Wastelands mod which melded the two together under the new engine is absolutely fantastic. I have probably 1200 hours into Fallout 4 over my various playthroughs, I like building settlements  :3

Tactics I maybe used a mod editor to make baby Deathclaws playable characters. It was worth it.

I didn't even want to finish playing Fallout 4. I was tired of the bleak and boring world they created and the aged buggy engine they built it off of.

I've pre ordered the Modiphius books.  Have the PDF but need a group to play with.  All the local action just want to do D&D.

Never finished Tactics.  Made to the end map, i think, and hit a bug where the robots in the underground complex could shoot your through the ground.  Tore my team up before I could get anywhere.  Terrible.  Fun otherwise.  Cranked up the crazy wasteland perk and found the kids playing D&D and stuff like that.  Quite enjoyable IMO.

Some text from the article:  "When players boot up Fallout 76 after the Worlds update goes live in September, they'll see the standard Fallout 76 Adventure and Private Adventure modes on the main menu as well as two new modes: Public Worlds and Custom Worlds. Public Worlds are a rotating series of Fallout Worlds experiences available to all players. "

The only thing in there that interests me is where it says 'Private Adventure mode.'  That is not behind the Fallout 1st paywall, and that is what I have been looking for.  If that's a single player mode that allows modding, that's the shot that broke the wall, and I'm in.

I've played it before.  The first 10 levels are ass.  It's the most boring, disorienting and stupid Fallout I've ever played.  But around level 20 it got fun.  By level 40 it finally felt like Fallout.  I still despised the multiplayer craep, though.  It's too much.  I hate it.  And yet, if they provide Fallout 76 private adventure, without paying per month, I'm in.  I'm ready to go.

And I won't see you there, because it'll be the single player version I've always wanted.  But that is also why this article is listed as 'unlikely.'  Right?  because it'll only be available on cellphones or some other stupid thing that ruins everything.

For all the dialog, there's not much substance. It eventually becomes a shooter based grind with awkward, not-lined-up crossroads that don't nicely merge. Nuka World? Yeah, to get the power on you're going to have to build up raider camps in the wasteland, which kinda destroys a good karma run.

Still want the power on but with good karma? OK. Kill every last raider so the park becomes a huge albatross populated by nobody but you.

Whee.

I loved fallout 3 even with the issues of playing on a ps3. I never for to new Vegas because of the ps3 issues. FO4 has been awesome on PS4. Yeah, I don't have mods or anything, but once I discovered the joys of survival mode, I surprisingly got  a 100% on it over a couple playthroughs to see each faction. I wanted to play FO76 and the lack of npc sounded cool but I will not play an always online game. Eff that. A single player open world sandbox with just exploring would have been awesome. Heck, it took me 3 years after discovering all the locations and side quests on Skyrim to finally go back and finish the story. The fun is in exploring not the main quest. Eff that always online crap.

Totally with you on this. I didn't really get far when I tried it, but I tried it pretty well after it launched. If they fix up the interface so it's more like 3/NV/4, all the better. Wish more online games did this. DC Online is a blast, but I don't want to grind through all that. Give me a solo version (with fill-in teammates for raiding events) and even if it's $100, I'm in.

I played FO76 at launch and didn't really care for it.  Since Wastelanders I have played it regularly.  It isn't the sort of thing for everyone and I get the hate that people have for it.  However, having said that I have enjoyed my time with FO76.  It scratches that itch of exploration and finding weird stuff while you are wandering around.

So, what I am saying is - if you are curious and have game pass or access to it for free then give it a try.  If you already dislike the idea then give it a pass and go and play something else.  Either way I will be wandering around Appalachia dodging supermutants and scavenging for parts.

No, I already played it at release.

And it was pretty much that.

Oh without NPCs too.

The fallout franchise won't get any more of my time or money until changes, and crucifixions are implemented in their management structure.

Hey guys, there are NPCs.

It still lacks a clear end-game and basically requires a monthly subscription, but it's very far from the game at launch.

My god I would play this game again.

I was just thinking about it a few days ago.
I mean it was basically mechwarrior with cars, I think it even used the mechwarrior 3(??) engine which at the time was pretty amazing.

Awesome soundtrack, cool concept, and Groove Champion is a name you'll never forget.

I would play this game again.

Done in one. The enthusiasm with which they screwed over Fallout fans was appalling. I spent over two and a half thousand hours enjoying Fallout 4, only to watch as they stomped that enjoyment into the dirt. It's like No Man's Sky - I'll be damned if I give them a dime for Fallout 76, no matter how many mods & mea culpas they issue.

Call me when Fallout 5 shows up, and we'll chat.

I really enjoyed Satisfactory until I opened up Tier 7 or 8, when the grind eventually ruined it for me. I had an enormous factory with many remote sub factories feeding it. Being faced with having to once again ramp up production manyfold, I F4'd.

Yeah, well last night I fought a mad scientist in an underground facility with an upgraded attempt at FEV, and then broke Appalachia's brotherhood from the main body, forming our own group, and allied it with some local raiders.  Then I assassinated all of the other raider leadership, and now we have a crashed space station to hang out in.

Also, I attacked an Assaultron that thought it was a Sheepsquatch, and now I wear its skin on my head.  YOU don't even know where the Overseer is, and you definitely dont' know where the Fort Knox stash is.  Because I STOLE IT.

"Yeah mom, of course I want hot pockets!  Bring them down here!"
