I just went to Target.com one morning and they must've just restocked.

I'm glad because that sounds like a lot of work otherwise.

Smoking GNU: Can't afford either anymore..

I have a wife, child, a job, and a house that needs a ton of work. I can afford a PS5 monetarily, but I can't afford the time to actually use it. So, not for me.

I do now see why the 18-35 age group is so important. It's like one day to the next you stop being a good consumer of pointless entertainment.

I've drifted away from PCs in the past ten years or so for a lot of different reasons (convenience, console exclusives, the whole couch/tv dynamic, among others). But I can't remember ever being so underwhelmed by a new console generation. I can't think of a single game that I feel like I'm missing out on. Also, I've long known that we were reaching the end of mind blowing graphical improvements, so I'm not surprised that the games look the same as last gen. But the fact that most of these new games make you choose between looking pretty and getting decent performance is just pathetic. For the first time in a very long time I'm seriously considering a PC tv setup or even waiting for the inevitable PS5 pro, or the Xbox Series XXXX One X.

I caved and bought a Series X from the reseller with the least amount of markup I could find. Still over a hundred bucks over MSRP, but XBone has been circling the drain for a while and it's not looking like the chip shortage is going to end anytime soon.

Most expensive is not always best. In particular, that setup is poorly optimized for gaming, could use at least one and possibly two more as SSDs and has GPUs that will never see 75% of their texture memory used and that won't be well supported for gaming workloads. You're wasting electricity if that's what you use that system for.

A Ryzen 5900x with 32GB RAM and a 3090 will let you game in decadent comfort for probably 5 years at 20% of what your system costs. PC graphics will be retarded by whatever consoles are doing anyway, and your system isn't making use of the enhanced IO of a Threadripper system anyway.

I just chose a spec for everything and didn't give af if it made sense cause I don't know what I'm doing, and it should be obvious.

Actually, I've been waiting for there to be a reason to upgrade.

Thus far, I haven't seen any games for the Series X that I particularly want, and I'm not getting a PS and juggling two subscription services.

I'll likely eventually get a PS5 when I can walk into a store and just pick one up... but to be honest, it'll mostly be to play some of the older exclusives like the Uncharted, Last of Us, and God of War games. I haven't seen anything new yet that makes me feel like I need it right now.

I am still making my way through Horizon: Zero Dawn on the PC and quite enjoying it, and I know there's a sequel coming out, but who knows when, and I imagine they'll eventually release that for PC as well

But here's the thing: If you're wondering where to buy a PS5 or Xbox Series X/S, you're asking the wrong question. That answer's simple. (Ex: Target, Best Buy, Walmart, GameStop, direct buys from Sony and Microsoft-whatever.) Instead, you should wonder how to get one.

I would say the question is actually when to get one. And the answer is: whenever the day comes that it won't be a hassle.

I managed to get a series X at RRP after about 2-3 months of checking a few online stores every morning when having my breakfast (would have gotten it earlier if my bank hadn't sent my confirmation to the right phone number). If you don't need it immediately you can get it at RRP without enabling notifications etc.

Yeah you can build more powerful PC's but not at the price point of the Xbox series X

JolobinSmokin: 60fps, wow how about a 6 year old GTX970 that will push over that instead?

The console (xbox series X)  isn't limited to 60fps, it can do 120fps at 4k with ray tracing. Comparing the software performance of old games versus new ones isn't really a reflection of the capabilities of the hardware.

https://majornelson.com/fpsboost/

If the developers update the games to support higher framerates more games will break 60fps.

JolobinSmokin: 60fps, wow how about a 6 year old GTX970 that will push over that instead?

I have a 970 (my old card. I'm using a 3080 now), and I have a Series S coontil the X is available at a sane price from stores. I won't buy from scalpers.)

The 970 is absolutely blown out of the water by the Series S, let alone the Series X. 970 can't do ray tracing at all. It can't manage 4K/60Hz on anything newer than unmodded, 100% vanilla Skyrim. It has less video RAM by far, and would choke on the games that are enhanced for Series X|S. It's comparable to a One X.

Yeah, the 3080 can match or beat the Xbox coontil devs master the art of optimizing for the console), but it's WAY more expensive on its own than an entire console capable of 120Hz @ 4K on newer games.

In short, know what the fark you're talking about before trying to be a shiat-talkin' dickweed.

Yeah, but all the PS4 exclusives. except Spider-Man, are junky action games that have similar competition on PC/XBox.

There's not a single PS exclusive franchise that I consider worth it to get a PS console for new prices.
