(NPR)   Perhaps you've been wondering why there are so few openly gay athletes competing in men's professional sports and thought that the answer has to be more complex then, "many male athletes are hyper-masculine, over-compensating bigots." Well, it's not   (npr.org) divider line

Closeted mostly.  Sports seems to attract a lot of gays and lesbians. At least the women are honest about it.

There are relatively few openly gay jazz musicians. I didn't realize it was an issue until I read an online bio of a favorite of mine and it said he was one of the few openly gay jazz musicians. It could be because jazz was last a thriving music in the 1930s.

"Gay men are a finite resource" was just a weird phrase. Makes sense in context of the argument used in article, but the phrase makes it sound like we should peg the dollar to the gay men standard. That or like oil, we will have to invade other countries to get their gay men or something.

Yeah, that was...weird.  They actually make the statement that if a gay man is in one area, they can't or won't be in sports.  It's not a binary participation decision.  You can do interior design and rugby.  It's possible.

But the whole article is a confusing mess of arguments and supporting points that undercut its own arguments.  Looks like an intern wrote most of the article.

Look I try my best to convert straight guys to gay. Why just last week at the "gay agenda" meeting I was slightly over my quota for the year....and 2 more I get a toaster oven.

It's okay to be intolerant, so long as the target is white, male and successful.

Everyone else is "people".

"Gay men are a finite resource"

Is this guy merely stating the obvious or is there a concept of infinite gay men?

It's hard to tell how much is nature versus nurture and how much is a positive pursuit versus finding a haven from negatitvity (both would be somewhere in the middle for me), but gay men being more drawn to artistic pursuits is a big part of it.

I should add the logical conclusion to all that is that closeted or not, there are at least slightly fewer gay men in pro sports than the general population and at least slightly more lesbians in top sports than general population.

This is true, but not as true as some would make it seem.  There's a flip side to this stereotype, too.  That straight men who are more drawn to artistic pursuits are sometimes assumed to be gay.

A 2018 study of youth sports in British Columbia, Canada, found that "sexual minority" students were less likely to participate in sports than their heterosexual peers.

Or maybe gays aren't as adept at sports for some reason.

I mean, with as many balls as I've handled, you'd think I'd be a pro, but nooooooooooo.

look.  If I'm on your team, how you spend your free time and where you want to put your dick is important to me and something I should have control of.  So just don't be gay.  Alright?

You have to practice hitting those balls as hard as you can! Then you will be on your way.

Also the Gay Games shows this to be false, I would also surmise that many sexual minority students wouldn't come out on a survey because of fear.

Accept no substitutes, but I'm pretty sure you've got to convert a full lacrosse team to get close to that level.
