And no one will ever know...until the MEN show up.

As usual.

Tell that to the soccer USWNT--I don't think they knew.

saw a news blurb stating that it is not too late to cancel the whole thing.

Guy from Slate Money made a bet about the olympics being cancelled about a month ago.  Thought he was crazy, but looks more likely then a month ago with so many athletes not participating.

I'll repeat something I've said in other threads: if the IOC is willing to refund NBC $1 billion, which is what I estimate NBC pays per Olympics; then go ahead and cancel the Tokyo Games. That, plus all the other refunds and the money lost by Japan; will singlehandedly end the modern Olympics.

Translation: it's not going to happen. They're not going to cancel these Olympics at what would now be the 13th hour since competition began last night US time.

Cafe Threads: And no one will ever know...until the MEN show up.

Not in baseball. They cancelled it because only a few teams won and they weren't the ones the IOC likes.  As for softball, all our best male athletes are busy with the more important beer leagues.

There's a story about that.  It's based on a McDonald's promotion for the 1984 Games.  If Team USA won the event on your card, you got a free burger or whatever.  But they screwed up and made the budget for the prizes assuming the Soviets and other eastern block countries would compete, but they boycotted and USA won basically everything, so they gave away a lot more food and other prizes than they planned to.

Baseball is back too along with softball.

Softball is starting so early so they can finish and THEN do all of baseball before the Olympics are all over.

I love how both softball and baseball have 6 teams competing.
Softball has a round-robin, then 3rd-4th for bronze, 1st-2nd for gold. A total of 17 games.
Baseball has two groups of three, and then a HILARIOUSLY convoluted mostly-double-elimination bracket. A total of 16 games. Why.

I sorta watched the us women's team get owned by the swedes then, as a condolence, watched the Chinese women's team get owned by Brazil.

That's about all I needed to see of this Olympics. With out crowds it just sucked.

McDonalds did it through I believe 2000, I know I won a ton of free food traveling that year.
