I have no problem that Jeff bezos paid to build a space ship and went to space. I have problem that Jeff bezos paid to build a space ship went to space, pays his workers shiat, and does absolutely nothing to help the plight of poverty in this country. He celebrates his wealth through vanity projects while his workers have to shiat their pants to keep their jobs.

Animatronik: blah blah blah Marxist blah blah blah blah blah

When you call someone a Marxist, either (a) you have read Marx and find something of his ideas in her policies, or (b) you haven't read Marx and you're just using "Marxist" as an OOGA BOOGA word.

It's OK if you haven't read Marx. Das Kapital isn't exactly a weekend's light reading. But if you don't know what Marx actually stood for, then you don't get to call people Marxists and be taken seriously.

And anyone who supports the Fascists Republicans can STFU about "poorly educated, ill-informed voters."

She espouses what is pretty much centrist orthodoxy here in New Zealand. The interest rate on my now paid off student loan was 0%. My sister had successful breast cancer treatment and subsequent reconstruction paid for by our public health service. My dad likewise had successful prostate cancer treatment. If I go to a GP it costs me $25 for a consult and $5 for a prescription.

In April, the minimum wage reached $20 an hour.

And yet I do not live in a socialist hellscape. And I refuse to believe these sorts of policies are impossible for the US to achieve.

Real wages have flatlined in the US for over 30 years which simply means that the productivity benefits of a full generation of computerisation, automation and other efficiencies have all flowed to shareholders and corporate types.

Her voters are the working stiffs who are going nowhere in a country which, according to the ecnomic metrics anyway, has done well in that time. How farking dare someone they've elected point that shiat out publicly. How awfully Marxist of them.

As a Canadian, I second this. Our minimum wage is $15, and I've had two kidney transplants and two rounds of chemotherapy fully paid for by Canadian Healthcare System. After my first transplant when I was taking very expensive immunosuppressive medication, they just gave those to me, because the pills for a lot cheaper than somebody being back on dialysis. If I ever retire, I can expect Social Security, if I lose my job I know there's a safety net. It's wonderful, and our economy is doing quite well. Also the high vaccination rate. And it generally well-educated and thoughtful population. And people here are quite polite, even though almost nobody ever carries a gun!

Not Marxism. Just sort of decent social policy and a desire to be good to each other.

I'm sure like a lot of rational folks she's probably more interested in spending money and resources on the only known place in the universe where we can actually live than billions of dollars to put a flag on a moon.

And it's not like building a rocket and paying a living wage are mutually exclusive. He could easily do both.  That's the thing that really bugs me about this.

The photo in a CNBC article is the problem with 401Ks? Care to cite where the article mentions Starbucks?

The problem is the farking system. Where I live the idea of a system which gives workers 3% and gradually increases to 6% is laughable. Who the fark could afford to retire on that? Especially when wages haven't increased in real terms in over 30 years but costs certainly have?

We're at 10% and rising to meet future cost increases. And our wages haven't stagnated thanks to much better wage policies than apply to AOC's voters. And then there's other 'social wage' measures like free or well subsidised medical treatment and our affordable university education system. Like thisispetefrom across the ditch (or 'dutch' as Pete pronounces it :)) has pointed out above, not everywhere ignores the concerns of low income workers like the US does.

Thanks for making my point better than I could. It wasn't your intention, sure, but you've done very well.

Calm down everyone. The only reason Bezos said what he said was so that he could stick Amazon for the bill as an "employee expense" and "promotional expense." And then he will write off the fees and expenses for his guest as a donation to charity.

So AOC is way off base. The real people who paid for this are American taxpayers.

A 6% match, plus averaging 6% in a market index fund means you're getting 12% returns on your 401k.

If you can't put money away instead of going to Starbucks (my local one has a line of 20 cars at almost all times) or the millions of people who to Vegas...I'm sorry I have no sympathy for those people.

The Ford F-150 is the best selling "car" in America. Car loans are reaching lime 8 years in length. Americans have to have the newest shiniest iPhone (I had a 6 until very recently).

Stop with the crocodile tears. Americans consume too much and save too little by choice. Look at much poorer countries where people manage to save a significantly higher percentage of their meager incomes. Many things (Starbucks, iPhone, Cars) cost exactly the same over there, and yet...they save money.
