The aquarium added that one lucky school group will get the chance to be part of the dissection.

Or, as we called it at school, kitchen duty.

The species is usually found in temperate and tropical waters.

And now it's in Oregon.  That's comforting.

Florence is a great little town too. Only about an hour away and a farkING REFUGE from when our fragile fragile souls get exposed to too much heat inland.  It's always 10-15 deg cooler on the coast there.
Also just a little bit north is a town called Yachats, pretty much where I want to be when I retire.  There is a hotel I go to in storm season and these massive waves just smash on the rocky shore. If you get the right rooms your balcony is baaaaaaaaarrley clear of the wavesplosions.
Having sex with your partner while you both have a head full of weed, under a full moon, while the waves come in so hard you think the continent is gonna flip over is a god damn rush.

Or so I'm told.

Angler fish have some of the most interesting reproduction in the animal world. The male is only about 2 inches long, while the female tissues can be two feet. The male fish will attached himself to the female with his mouth, and eventually gets absorbed into the female till only his testicles remain, which proceeded to impregnate the female. So basically the male is just a swimming pair of nuts that basically gets sucked into the female's body by ozmosis oh, and she ends up with a little pair of nut sack stuck on her squirting sperman once in awhile.

Truly a wonder of nature.

A slight Oregon Coast sub-thread question for those in the know -- what's the off-season(s) like along there?  I'm looking to do a photography-centered road-trip and I'd like to find a window that lets me avoid the crowds, but also avoid being socked in by fog and rain for the entire 1-2 weeks.  Cold & windy is fine, cold and occasionally sunny is better.  Visibility is key.

Also would help if all the restaurants and bars aren't shut down.

Winter is usually when it isn't crowded, but it can be crappy (I love the crappy weather, though.).

I'm right on the north central coast.  Summers can really suck aside from the tourists.  The cold, dry NW wind blows and blows and blows.  But you'd get some great shots, if you can get away from the tourists.   The weather from the north coast to the south coast can differ wildly.  The south coast is called the banana belt because it' so different.

Of course any nice day in the winter can be bring the Valley folks over, we're an hour away from Corvallis.   And TPTB advertise winter to "come see the storms".   Honestly fog isn't that much of a thing anymore, except oddly, in the summer when the "heat suck" from inland brings it in.   Used to happen more, but who farking knows anymore.   There past week or so was extremely overcast and in the 50s.
