What is ... a show I've never heard of?

I thought Paul Merton would be the new host. I was clearly wrong. I wish her the very best. It's not going to be easy to replace Nicholas Parsons. He hosted the show wonderfully for decades.

Is that a challenge?

Yes, repetition of host.

I said host and hosted. Different words.

I disagree with the challenge and the subject remains with Gordon. You have 40 seconds on 'Long-running game show, after using guest hosts to fill the chair of its recently-deceased and much-beloved emcee, names a permanent replacement. Hey - wait Just a Minute'. Beginning..now.

..

Is that another challenge?

I thought I heard a bit of a hesitation there.

Yes, there was a bit of hesitation. I agree with the challenge, and you now have a point and the subject.

is she from the great British bake off or am I confusing my UK lesbians again?

chucknasty: is she from the great British bake off or am I confusing my UK lesbians again?

Yes and also maybe yes again depending on if you were actually thinking of Sandi Toksvig the first time.

When did the UK add Denmark to it's roster of countries?

Now that their last attempt at empire-building has well and truly run its course, they're trying a new approach: pretending like something from overseas belongs to them, and hoping no-one notices.

She also had a show (on PBS in the States) where she went to Japan to learn about the culture a couple of years back:

Didn't think they would find anyone to replace Humphrey Lyttelton on ISIHAC, but Jack Dee has been doing a great job. I'm sure Sue will be good too. It's not like she hasn't hosted comedy panel shows before.

Well, when it comes to Mrs Toksvig, her mother is British, she went to Cambridge, has dual Danish and British citizenship and started appearing on UK TVs back in 1982 (No 73).

/Who remembers Rentaghost?

I live in Michigan have become addicted to British panel shows. But the funny ones, not the "real" ones. But it seems to me there are only about 10 people on air in all the shows combined. They just switch off being a host. Dara OBriain, David Mitchell& wife, Jimmy Carr, Lee Mack, Rob Brydon. All host a show and were guests on the others the guys shows while hosting their own show.

My first Sue Perkins experience was in The Supersizers Go...series, where she and another host would spend a week living (and more importantly, eating) through various historical periods. It was a fantastic show, and you can find episodes of it to stream on YT.

Just you and me, apparently.

Did we ever find out exactly why no-one was allowed into the cellar?

Wasn't it a dragon? You never saw it, there'd just be a flashing light and then they'd come out covered in soot.

The Flexecutioner: What is ... a show I've never heard of?

It's odd. Most of us have heard of Sue because of Bake Off.  I watch enough British TV to have seen her in other things.  But this is definitely a very British news topic in that other than the fact that Sue is involved, I think there's no reason for any of us to care. Unless suddenly they start sending the show out to the rest of the world because she's involved.

Whoever subby is did a good job likening it to Trebek so I decided to lead with that. I watch a lot of British tv but they make a lot of stuff, so much that even some of their most popular shows ever are still not exactly "known" to me.

Out of curiosity I might have to give it a peek.
