The school says such a rule would violate "sincerely held religious beliefs" because they say humans were made in the image of God, and masks shield that image from being seen.

Oh FFS. Humans were also made naked. Clothes shield that image from being seen. DARKSIDED!

On Wednesday, the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals will hear arguments on whether requiring Michigan students to wear masks in classrooms violates their constitutional rights.

Yeah, right, whatever, this is about not submitting to lawful authority.

There is currently no mandate in the state of Michigan that requires children to wear masks in school.

WTAF???  How the f*ck do they have standing at all?

Jesus, I thought subby was joking but that's essentially the argument the church is making.

Of course they're too stupid to realize that.

According to the dogma, God made man perfect, free of sin and disease.  We farked it up.  So it's our own fault we have to wear a mask to protect us from the disease God sent to punish small-brained science deniers and their close family and friends.

I don't know who's running this school, but that's not Catholic doctrine or belief.  The "made in God's image" excuse for being anti-mask comes from the evangelicals.  I thought the so-called charismatic Catholics had all jumped ship 30 years ago.

I live in farking red state Arkansas, and the Catholic diocesan schools here would sue if they COULDN'T have mask mandates.  Sincerely held religious belief my a***.

Huh. Just last night I had dinner with my sibs and we reminisced about the Catholic priests that were diddling kids in our Church/School. We also talked about a Bishop that was a relative that got beat up outside a gay bar back when he was just a priest. Apparently the story was that he was "ministering" to the patrons.

2021-07-20 4:04:30 PM
So a Catholic school is saying the face should not be covered? Granted mantillas/chapel veils don't generally cover the mouth and such, but the argument they are making contradicts any veil. I won't mention nuns...

2021-07-20 4:05:14 PM
They also allege requiring masks poses a health or learning problem for students who have allergies, difficulty breathing, or trouble being understood when they talk through a face covering.

Masks do not pose a health risk for those with allergies unless they are allergic to the material in which case they can use an alternate material, do not contribute to difficulty breathing even in patients with asthma or COPD, and if you can't make yourself understood talking through a piece of cloth that's a you problem, regardless of your age.

Uh, Genesis 1:26 and 27 would like a Word...

// what's not in the Bible is any explanation of what that means
// according to one Jewish scholar, it's why other animals are afraid of humans (they fear that "image" as we [should] fear god)
// according to others, it's not "image of" as in "we resemble the deity", but that humans have such a high capacity for creation/destruction, reasoning, language, etc

That is a damned good question.

But I don't think it is a standing issue, exactly.  Seems more to me a lack of a justiciable controversy (asking a court to award speculative relief).  Similar but not the same as standing, which is that the plaintiff doesn't have a cognizable injury for which the court can award relief.

There has to be something we are missing.  If there is no mask mandate, it should be kicked out on the pleadings.

God doesn't have a physical body... except when he's being Jesus. At the time he creates man in his image, Jesus was nowhere to be found, he's apparently just "the word". What is created in God's image is man's ability to reason and comprehend by using words in with our minds and to convey those thoughts to others.

These farking blasphemous farks have abandoned anything that resembles god's image by renouncing reason and thought he gave them to come up with this dumbass argument about masks.
