Looking back at that lineup, I still find nothing appealing enough to buy a ticket for.   The Roots were there, which surprises me, but most of the rest is a mess.  I don't even understand "Creed featuring Robby Krieger".

In 1999, I was concerned that Limp Bizkit would be around annoying me for 20 years.  Time was much more merciful than that.

I'm glad I was a bit too young (15 that summer. It was a good summer) to make it up there bc my stupid ass would have gotten into something harmful.
Watching it on tv was a lesson n expectation vs reality but it was lost on me, being 15.

Anyone who's given this even the slightest thought knew this. There were no facilities, the road was blocked, etc. It was a German orgy.

Oh, we're talking about Woodstock '99. In that case they were just imitating the original. People got what they paid for.

Went to a concert festival a few years ago that took place on a capped/restored landfill. It rained heavily and everything was sinking into the mud.  Find out the next day that they were afraid that between the rain and festival the cap had been breeched. They canceled the rest of the festival, but ultimately I believe the cap was still technically intact.  I couldn't imagine what may have come oozing up if it had been breeched.

There really was only one. Everything else, including Altamont, was just a cash grab from Studio executives.

How was it a cash grab when most people at Woodstock '69 didn't have tickets and Altamont was free?

I looked at the list on Wikipedia and I agree. I'd be interested in seeing The Roots, James Brown, Red Hot Chili Peppers and Elvis Costello. Not much else. For a three day festival that's not good.

Raug the Dwarf: Damn. I had forgotten about Woodstock '94.  That one actually had a decent lineup, if I remember right.

Again, I checked the list on Wikipedia and it was much better. I particularly like the lineup they had for the Ravestock event on the first day. Aphex Twin, Spooky, Kevin Saunderson, The Orb and Orbital all on the same stage on the same day. Superb.

Altamont was a debacle in many other respects. Not so much a cash grab that was an oversimplification on my part.

One of the biggest problems they had at Altamont was the desire to save money by Simply Having Hells Angels provide security for beer.

It wasn't out here at Shoreline Mountain View was it? Because our landfill amphitheater used to fart methane during it's first few years of operation.

I was there with one of my best friends. 18 and 19 years old respectively. A feast for the hedonistic senses. We left before the fires and out of exhaustion and lack of money for food and water. I'm not excusing the horrible things that happened there, as rape, rioting, and wanton destruction did take place. But we saw between us:

James Brown, Tragically Hip, George Clinton, Moe., Chemical Brothers, Jamiroquai, Rage Against the Machine, The Offspring, Korn, Bush, Kid Rock, Metallica, and some others. The stages were so far between each other. The camping area was destroyed on day 2 and was so dark that we didn't bother.

Memory that is etched in my brain: walking to the car after the first night, it was so dusty and lit by sporadic headlights. A completely naked woman was dancing around with a sign that said Naked For Nitrous.

NIN's 94 set, just awesome.   I've looked up a few sets from 99, the only one that really like listening to is megadeths.

Regarding Woodstock 99, i had just moved out of the house and remember watching some of it on TV.  I remember really liking the californication album, and limp bizkit was always in my car CD player.

MY, how times have changed.

My cousin went to this and once he saw the fires start, he was out of there. Said the craziest thing was the complete lack of water. Water bottles were being sold for $10-20 a piece there.

Woodstock 99 was insane.

I was there. Can 100% confirm.

Our camp area was about 100yrds from a porta potty station. They all got flipped and caused a giant mess. Later that day, saw people sliding in the "mud" about 25yrds away from the tipped crappers.

So. Much. Pinkeye.

It was not. It was in Louisville, KY.  The landfill contains mainly incinerator ash. Incinerator ash that is known to contain hazardous levels of lead.
