Stop stealing land that doesn't belong to you and maybe you can have your ice cream back.

Don't make B&J fire up the Dairy Dome Defense System.

These City Slickers sequel plotlines are getting out of hand.

whidbey: Keep barking little doggie.

I can see Mossad assassinating Ben & Jerry.  It's something they'd do.

Don't worry Sean Astin will save us!

2021-07-20 12:28:41 PM
Hey Israel, How about we don't sell our delicious Ice Cream to you at all?

2021-07-20 12:29:29 PM
You know, if Ben & Jerry's made cottage cheese instead of ice cream, they could legit topple the Israeli government.

2021-07-20 12:29:53 PM
I want to live in a country where everything is so perfect that the only thing our leadership has to worry about, and get worked up over, is a ban by an over-priced ice cream company.

2021-07-20 12:30:35 PM
Israelis really despise the free speech of Americans.

NuclearPenguins: Stop stealing land that doesn't belong to you and maybe you can have your ice cream back.

They actually gained that land the old fashioned way. If you are an American citizen you have absolutely nothing to say about it unless you are packing your bags for the Old World (or if you are of native descent).

The problem is that the people in the occupied territory have no vote. The land is either Israel's and the people should be full citizens (or I guess deported to Egypt/Jordan) or it is not Israel's and the Israelis should leave.

2021-07-20 12:30:50 PM
Can't Ben & Jerry make decisions that benefit the company?

2021-07-20 12:30:55 PM
"We want this company to be led by values and not be dictated by the parent company."

Yeah, about that...

Get used to it is my point.

Good on B&J for listening to protesters and making a stand that included the words "occupied territories" instead of "disputed territories".

2021-07-20 12:31:28 PM
I feel bad for the minimum wage kids slinging ice cream in the shops.

2021-07-20 12:31:35 PM
"Prime Minister Bennett spoke with Alan Jope, CEO of Unilever which owns Ben & Jerry's and made it clear that he views with utmost gravity the decision by Ben & Jerry's to boycott Israel and added that this is a subsidiary of Unilever, which has taken a clearly anti-Israel step," the prime minister's office said on Twitter.

Everything about this statement is incredibly dumb & embarrassing.  Threatening a multinational company over ice cream, using a social media service, is so incredibly pathetic and childish that you'd assume it came straight from Netanyahu.

2021-07-20 12:32:23 PM
so THATS why we have those loud-ass F-35s flying around all the time.

/ I'm pro F-35 just because of the time the anti-F-35 protest group (which includes one the the B&J guys) drove a noise simulator around downtown at like 8am on a Saturday.
// Thought it was a farking earthquake.

IIRC, in Texas they signed a law stating that the state could not hire contractors who did not sign a pledge stating they would never boycott Israel. A whole bunch of other states did the same. Did those laws hold up in court?

Oh, just f*** off. BDS needs to be the order the day with Israel -- everywhere, all the time.

2021-07-20 12:33:41 PM
I'm still baffled by the fact that B&J sold out to Unilever.

2021-07-20 12:34:05 PM
"Caved to pressure by online protesters?" To, what, do what is exactly in their nature and support a progressive cause on the side of justice? People have been shouting "Divest now!" since the 1970s.

Ah. New York Post. Never sway from the narrative that all the injustice in the world is the work of a handful of ill-mannered, malcontented rabble, and if only they'd go away we could build the capitalist paradise of our dreams.

2021-07-20 12:34:06 PM
These useless chucklefarks recently paved over an ancient Canaanite graveyard to make way for a settlers-only road in the occupied territories. It is way past time this pissant country was brought to heel by the international community.

They do love our money, though. (Not good optics considering certain stereotypes.)

Oh no! The tiny market share lost in Israel is going to hurt a giant multinational company like Unilever.

Both this guy and the company can go fark themselves with hedgehogs.

2021-07-20 12:35:38 PM
Hey can't we all at least agree that there's room for reasonable people to disagree about whether it's right or wrong to sell ice cream to child murdering, land stealing, religious apartheid states?

2021-07-20 12:35:39 PM
Why is the Israeli PM bothering himself with something like this? Who cares if an artisanal foreign desert merchant doesn't want compete in your market? Is Cherry Garcia *that* popular?

2021-07-20 12:36:08 PM
Are they going to ban Unilever products? Making popcorn.

-AP, after their building got farking bombed

No one with authority seems to want to go "Hey what you're doing is kind of farked up dude" with any sort of conviction so instead the only push back is having their ice cream taken away and getting cyber bullied and they just cant handle it apparently.

Jesus farking Christ, this may be one of the dumbest fights Israel has ever gotten itself into (I SAID WHAT I FARKING SAID).

Goddamn, Israeli egos are so farking fragile (also the MidEast generally, but for now we're talking THE ONLY DEMOCRACY IN THE REGION AND AMERICA'S BESTEST FREN). Let it the fark go. It's not like Ben & Jerry's sales buoy the farking GDP of settlements. I'm sure settlers (a group which includes several of my friends) can withstand settling for Haagen-Dazs and Nestle and the other 14 farking brands of easily-melted dairy you can find in the makolet.

Just ...shut the everlasting fark up about it, Bennett. A run on Phish Food is not nearly the deepest of the problems there; and having to drive 40 minutes to find Chubby Hubby* is not farking antisemitism, you unbelievable cock.

Is this the scoop you want to die on?

Shouldn't this be rubbed in their face as the Biggest Baby Award by the rest of the world?

"Any criticism of Israel is inherently anti-Semitic" has been upgraded to "the color green is anti-Semitic".  Good god, the snowflakery on display is reaching "blizzard in the Arctic" level.

FTFA: "They are trying to destroy the soul of the company. We want this company to be led by values and not be dictated by the parent company."

Perhaps you should have not sold the business in that case. Large, multi-national companies care about profit and shareholder interests above all else. They will only care about your values if they can successfully monetize said values.

2021-07-20 12:41:12 PM
Went over their heads to yell at Unilever?

So... like a geopolitical version of a Karen telling B&J they want to speak to their manager?

Not a good look.

Is Bibi still squatting in the State House? I'd think the Israeli PM would have more important things to worry about that farking Ice Cream.

2021-07-20 12:43:12 PM
Because I've already seen people on Twitter conflate the two, I'll just note that this only applies to Israeli settlements. They plan to still sell in the non-settlement regions, such as Tel Aviv.

2021-07-20 12:43:38 PM
Random ice cream hippies take a harder stance on war crimes than politicians. Funny, that.

Even the native argument doesn't work. It isn't like all the Natives magically appeared in their territories and lived in perfect harmony until the Europeans showed up.

It would violate the first amendment, but no one has been damaged by the law yet so no one has standing to challenge them.

2021-07-20 12:46:34 PM
OK, they don't want to sell in the "settlements." Same deal. Find some elsewhere, buy it, resell to friends and family.

Is this really that difficult?

2021-07-20 12:46:53 PM
This could backfire.  What would it take to smuggle Ben and Jerry's in, and charge double or more?  Lke Mexican CocaCola with real sugar, or Coors when it was only distributed in Colorado.

If you wanted to mess with the settlements just use the services of a council of Reform rabbis (including women) to vet the food as kosher instead of a traditional religious Orthodox vaad.

This is Israel's Charlie Hebdo moment!!!11!1

2021-07-20 12:47:33 PM
Is it just me or is this ban particularly milquetoast to begin with? It's only banning sales in the "Occupied Territories," not Israel, which is said occupier of said territories.

2021-07-20 12:48:07 PM

Stoker: Hey Israel, How about we don't sell our delicious Ice Cream to you at all?
