Maybe it won't be as bad as they say it is, COVID-wise.

Of course, if you feel they shouldn't have it, don't watch it.

And I saw this today: it's the 25 year anniversary of Ali lighting the Atlanta cauldron. Here's the story of how that happened, straight from the man who came up with the idea.

First run of the games because of walks and back to back hit people is a nice omen.

The host nation has some jitters. A single, a walk, and 2 HBPs and the Aussies are on the board.

Also the pitchers last name, makes me think of Ueno the part of town. If you ever go in that area, Ryokan Sawanoya was one of the best places I've ever stayed. Traditional setup, but man, the owners were awesome whole time. Original owner was still even helping at desk when we satyed.

Awwww, just looked it up and jai alai is not an Olympic sport this time as well. Last time was in 1992, just one more thing the Triplecast can be blamed for.

desertgeek: Come back Friday at 8 ET, that's when they start.

After having it revoked out of the blue I feel that I would be rude were I to not take the time to thank you for granting me your permission to talk about sports again. Thank you, it is deeply appreciated and our renewed friendship will be my rock in any trying times to come.

indybill23: That and table tennis are in my top 5.

Yeah, neither one of those are "your father's badminton/ping pong." Entirely different games.

Fun fact: I know how to ask "Do you play ping pong" in three different languages. Four if I can toss English in there! I only know how to say "I still suck at ping pong" in only one though. :(

I'll have to look up that Mary Carillo thing as I'm not sure it rings a bell.

craigzy: aint nobody wakin up at 430 to watch soccer.

I'm actually moving my schedule up in the morning so that I'm back in time for the start of the second half at the latest. Impressed you are, I know.

Is there a handy tv schedule (preferably formatted for printing) somewhere? All I can find is a schedule of events, which is less than useful when I'm 13 time zones away from the action, events are spread across multiple channels, and "live sports" are live the same way "reality tv" is real.

It's Australia, who knows what nicknames they came up with while tripping on venom from their third bird-eating spider bite that week?

Not printer-friendly, and honestly not screen-friendly because everything on the internet in 2021 has to be big and blocky at the expense of actually being able to see anything, but here's NBC's schedule grid.

I don't know whether NBC is set up where you can stream every event live for free, as they have in past Olympics.

It is, but "equestrian" is slang for "so stinking rich you can afford to buy coke in Australia".

/ I'll bet the farker can afford a parking space in the eastern suburbs of Sydney too

I've already tested it, you need a cable subscription so far. I'm still trying to figure out the situation with Peacock.

I've just been looking into that myself. AFAICT, replays of what looks like everything so far are on Peacock Premium, but no live stuff. guessing a cable subscription is needed for that? which I don't have but am okay with replays only for $4.99. there are also the trials for various events which could be nice gap-fillers. *dives into the Olympic pool and stays there through the Closing Ceremonies, or maybe just until everyone gets the rona*

welp, that says there will be live stuff on The Cock, so what do I know. certainly not the full official schedule which, as you said, would be nice. but at least there's a dedicated livestream of the Olympic flame? 😵💫

One of the things I look for during the Olympics is what the world feed intro looks like from Olympic Broadcasting Services. While this video I found doesn't contain the OBS logo, I've gotten it confirmed from enough sources that this is the world feed intro video.

Thank you.

I don't expect times down to 15 minute or even 30 minute detail, but I recall for previous Olympics there'd be a 4 or 6 hour block with half a dozen events listed. I'd record the block, then watch to find the event I was watching for wasn't shown.

I'll probably do what I usually do, record everything the first couple days then not bother for the rest of the games because I have better things to do than fast forward through soccer.

/seriously, who watched Olympic soccer? You can watch soccer, the best in the world, any month of any year.
