The car looks like it drove straight forward through the fence into the pool. If it had been in reverse, it must've spun around before splashdown.

Ha, see, they made a joke there. It's an Infinity in a pool. "Not how you make an infinity pool."
I hate whoever decided to go with that crappy joke.

putting the car in the wrong gear is only a minor part of the story.
the car hopped the curb, went past the grass, through the fence, onto the swimming pool deck, and then into the pool.

either the kid really hates his parents and did this on purpose or he is their precious crotch-fruit who can do no wrong and doesnt need to be told what the big pedal to the left of the accelerator does.  there is no middle ground. none.

"Hopefully, this teen isn't deterred from getting behind the wheel again..."

What?  No.  For fark's sake, no.  Some people just are not capable of certain things.  This kid is not capable of driving.  This isn't bumping another car.  This is completely lacking in several major core concepts of driving.  Send them to NYC to use public transit.  You have a full life in that city and never miss having a car.

The car is going to be leaking nasty fluids into the pool water, none of which you're going to want on your skin or in eyes, mouth, nose. Only a macho idiot would expose themselves to carcinogens when it can be avoided.

Looks new enough to have a backup camera. If the dash is still showing the reverse, you should check your gear. My truck holds the reverse a second after shifting, but it's a positive response.

> Thank you to @WestMetroFire for the follow up work, Ace Towing for getting the car out of said pool & to all that is good in the world for there being NO injuries to anyone.

Here is a video from @WestMetroFire of them pulling out the car. It looks like they scraped the bottom of the car against the side of the pool so probably both were damaged.

Also, the undercarriage needs looked at & inspected while placing, securing, & adjusting the rigging straps. Full SCUBA is better than holding your breath for 30 seconds at a time and ending up with a slipped strap & yeeting the car into the house.

"It's easy to roast the driver for the mistake, but we've all done a silly thing or two while learning how to drive, sometimes resulting in a crash."

We were too poor for me to make "silly mistakes" that would "result in a crash, lol!" I farking paid attention because there was no way to get full-coverage on a Chrysler Lebaron station wagon or 89 Prelude. I learned how to drive, not just aim & press the gas pedal & hope for the best.

Yes there is: pedal misapplication.

People can panic and get stuck in a feedback loop where they swear they are pressing on the brake, wondering why it isn't working, and reality is they are stepping on the accelerator. This is what happened in the Toyota fiasco.

Looks to be adjacent to a parking lot and long covered porch, which suggests either hotel or apartment pool. Either way, it's probably been collecting spit and piss for the past 10 years with minimal maintenance. I'd opt for SCUBA even if there wasn't a car in there...

I did some dumb things when I was learning to drive, but nothing like this.  The only damage I did to the car was a scrape down the side when I misjudged the available space on a narrow road. Which I fixed with a can of spray and some sandpaper...I think I had to buy a taillight, too.

Also, my grandmother was in the hospital that summer, and Mom made me drive her from the suburbs into Boston once a week to visit her.  And on the crowded, narrow secondary roads, not the Pike. I was absolutely terrified. 50 years later, I still remember those trips. At least it wasn't a manual transmission.

However, her strategy worked. I fear nothing now, having survived the worst drivers this country can throw at me.

Not a single one of you happened to notice this kid wasnt licensed, just learners permit? And that one of the parents was in the car when it happened.

2021-07-20 11:47:36 AM
A few months ago we had a kid roll his car right in front of our house on a Sunday morning. No idea how he did it. Quiet residential area, only three doors down from the corner where he turned onto our road, completely rolled it. Slid into a neighbor's Prius parked on the curb. Of course everyone came out to see, someone helped the kid out of the car. He stood around dazed for a minute or two, then strides purposefully up the alley past our house and out of sight. When I understood he'd been the driver I went looking for him to see if he was ok, but he'd disappeared, and that was the last we saw of him. Cops, firetrucks, and a wrecker show up and piece it all together. Someone on the scene knew who he was, and we learn that he had no license, but had borrowed his grandmother's car to go to Burger King. So, no license, rolled the car, hit a parked car which hit another parked car, fled the scene and hid from the cops. Never saw a followup but I'm certain he didn't hide forever, and I'd say there's an excellent chance he's in jail right this minute. My point is, I guess we're all pretty lucky that there aren't any pools on our block.

I guess you COULD just get covered in oil, gas, transmission fluid etc.

If it were me, I would wear the suit.
