China is a master of playing the long game.
They have spent Trillions (maybe even Brazalions, possibly Godzilions of $$) worming their way into every corner of business that may be able to project an idea or narrative contrary to the party line.

The message is very simple. Fark with us in any way and we will cut your money off.
Guess what?
They will do it anyway as soon as they are able to.

Once these companies make more money in that market than in this one, they'll show you how pro America they are.

So, between the brutal persecution of ethnic minorities and dissidents, and the government telling businesses what they can or can't say, China is doing what Republicans have explicitly stated they want to do? Man, one would almost think that authoritarian nationalists are shiat!

No matter which ideology they wrap themselves in, authoritarians always end up acting the goddamn same.

It's always the same because authoritarianism is the same mental disorder relating to one's relationship with objective reality.

I don't see China as this force of supernatural planning that some people do. Our job creators gave them all the money, training and technology they needed to rise as a superpower. All they needed to do in return is sacrifice their people and environment and it paid off pretty well. It was just our rich people farking us over for the billionth time so the Chinese rich people could fark over their people for the trillionth time.

Because Capitalism loves cheap labor and no human rights, and China has an inexhaustible supply of both.

Which is why people calling China communist (including China itself) is laughable. China is fascist.

TorpedoOrca: Kodak? Don't they make physical copies of Insta pics?

They went bankrupt years ago. Looks like they're mostly in the business of specialized print jobs for corporate clients these days.

I'm pretty sure the name was sold off to a Chinese interest a long time ago to market crap digital cameras and such.

This isn't really the same Kodak.

This.  Foreigners who live in China know they shouldn't dick around with politics or the 4 "T" issues:  Taiwan, Tibet, Tiannamen and Treatment of the Uighurs.

A kid from Hong Kong I used to play Ark with told us that if you are getting harassed by streamers from China in game (it was easy to tell because the game didn't support Chinese characters so their name showed up as [][][][]) mention Tibet or any of the other forbidden Ts and they will have to log off or they will get kicked off. It worked.

It's almost as if trying to rely on corporations to do the right and moral thing is a losing game.
